About a week and a half after Dawning of a Brighter Future
A’zael :: Bronze Fath
The first long Fall that they’d be facing with their newly graduated riders was hardly ideal, though at least it could be worse. It was raining but at least it was light, not that it mattered in the end as they’d be flying in it for hours and it was sharding cold on the western continent. His fly out over the predicted course of Thread’s fall with the other Wingleaders a half hour before it was due had also revealed far less than ideal wind conditions. They’d be fighting to stay in the air and in formation every moment against intense downdrafts. It was certainly going to take a heavy toll on the smaller dragons, and even the larger browns and bronzes would likely be feeling the strain before the fight was over.
They’d all faced at least two short Falls over the isles in their new Wings already, if not three, and A’zael was still reveling in the fact that one Wing actually got to take a break between Falls now, with their fourth Wing finally formed and fighting. So far things had been going well, despite the shake up in the Wings, but this, their first long Fall over the Western Continent, would be the real test. He really wished conditions had been better, just for this Fall, but it was a small mercy he had not been granted. With conditions what they were, he was really questioning Tempest Wing’s involvement, but it was too late to have Gust Wing ready and it wasn’t as though the riders in Tempest Wing didn’t know what they were doing just because the Wing was newly formed. Most of them were not new graduates, just riders that had been in other Wings previously, and it would be more than a little insulting to T’lyron to pull his Wing out of the fight at the last moment. Besides, Gust Wing was due their Fall off this time around.
So he’d returned to the Weyr, had a brief meeting with his Wingseconds to inform them of the conditions and the strategy that would need to be conveyed to the rest of the Wing, and trusted them to see it was done while he checked on final preparations for firestone refueling with the weyrlings in the Queen’s Wing and with the healers and dragonhealers who were busy prepping for the inevitable injured to come. While Pallath wasn’t in proper shape to fight yet, Rau had recovered enough that he could at least help oversee the firestone refueling from the Weyr. Once he was satisfied, he had Fath call the Wing together, double checked with his seconds that the Wing was well informed of what awaited them, and mounted Fath as he waited for word from B’rax and T’lyron that their Wings were ready to depart. Once he had it, he gave the signal for flight, waited for each Wing to settle into their proper formation, and gave another signal that sent them all between to the Western Continent. It hadn’t been raining at Mavros, and A’zael couldn’t help but sigh as he pulled his flight goggles down over his eyes after they’d reemerged into the icy rain they’d be fighting in, urging Fath higher as they led Gale Wing to the high position to start.
He had a bad feeling this wind was going to be a real problem, but at least from the back of the vee formation he had a good view of the wing stretched out in front of him to keep an eye on things. As he fueled Fath with firestone, the bronze rumbled a deep growl under him, alerting him to the approach of Thread a moment before he spotted the silver strands through the rain, merciless downdrafts driving them down over the water at the edge of the continent. But it wasn’t long until it was upon the Wing, and Fath let loose a burst of flame.
No’va :: Brown Alduntulath
Being part of a brand new Wing was sort of cool, not that any Wing wouldn’t be brand new to him, but Tempest Wing was new to the whole Weyr and he got to be part of it, which was neat to think about. It was too bad Joia and Vitra weren’t in it though. It was weird not flying with them, for all the Threadfall practice they’d done together, and then their flying in the Queen’s Wing, catching stray Thread and refueling everyone with firestone. Vitra was too young to join the regular Wings, apparently, and no one seemed to know quite what to do with Tellamuth yet. But maybe Vitra would fly in Tempest Wing in a couple turns? Not that he minded getting to know new people, his new wingmates, he just wished his best friends were there with him too.
Their Wing had been ‘off’ during the first short Fall after graduation, which had been a bit of a bummer as he had been both excited and anxious to get to fight Thread somewhere other than the Queen’s Wing, picking off scraps from the three Wings above them. Refueling fighting riders with firestone was rather harrowing on its own, but it was momentary. He and Aldy had been lucky in the next two Falls, which had been relatively easy, so older riders had said, and though Aldy had gotten a small scoring on his wing, it had certainly given No’va a confidence boost when he was able to hop them between and back with relative ease. Even with all the extra practice he’d done, assigned by D’rew, he had still feared that maybe his distractibility would end up being their downfall the first time they really needed a quick skip between, that they wouldn’t return because he hadn’t been able to focus on bringing them back out properly, particularly if he or Aldy was hurt at the time. But they’d done fine.
Today’s Fall would be different though. Falls over the continent were always quite different from those over the isles. For one thing the isles were mostly tropical whereas the Western Continent was very… not. Not to mention how much shorter Falls over the isles were. And as the Wings all appeared from between over the Western Continent, met with a chill rain and wind trying to tear them out of the sky, No’va was fairly certain this was going to be much harder than the two Falls they’d faced thus far. Well this doesn’t seem great. Aldy rumbled in agreement, But it is our duty. We will fight, regardless. It wasn’t like they had a choice. Thread was still going to fall even if the weather was poor. Shells. As Tempest Wing settled at their proper altitude beneath Gale Wing, he tugged his goggles on and set to fueling Alduntulath with more firestone. When the flames began above them, he tensed, his gaze trained upward, and it wasn’t long before the first fall-through reached them.

Threadfall Specifics
Standard Fall, a cold, cloudy day with light rain and strong downdrafts. Average Fall. It will be a full 4 hour Fall, meaning the greens and blues in Gale and Tempest Wings’ Reserve will be on standby until half way through the Fall (3 rounds). As the Fall is 4 hours, it also means the Wings will be rotating position (I will mark when the rotations take place in my posts).

Middle Wing: Tempest, Falling Backward Vee Formation.
Low Wing: Breeze, Falling Triple Trail Formation.
Queen's Wing: Zephyr, Falling Trail Formation.
