Unique from most Wings, Gale Wing has been drilling most of their blues and greens to increase their endurance and flies the majority of them through a full Fall rather than having two groups which rotate and only fly half the Fall. It instead has a small Reserve group of greens and blues for which it is deemed unsafe to attempt the enhanced endurance training. This group waits on standby with the 2nd Rotation groups of the other Wings to either be called in to take the place of a wingmate who has had to leave Fall or to join the fight half way through Fall to bolster the Wing if they are not needed before then. The newly formed Tempest Wing is also taking up this practice.
The Queen's Wing is a small and varied wing, consisting of course of any Gold dragons Mavros might have, and of riders too young (riders must be 16 turns old to fly in the higher wings), too old, or too infirm (yet fit enough to still fly) to be a part of the other Wings. It is also sometimes used as a punishment placement. Any riders who are also Dragonhealers will generally ride with the Queen's Wing as well, so they can more easily leave their wing in the midst of Threadfall if their skills are required. Starting during their 15th month of training, Weyrlings begin flying with the Queen's Wing during Fall. As the Pass progresses, Falls become more numerous, and Mavros gains dragons enough for more Wings, only a portion of the Queen's Wing will fly in any particular Fall.
Riders can be grounded due to pregnancy, injury, or punishment, though it is generally only done in severe cases. Riders grounded as punishment either help the weyrlings with firestone delivery or assist healers during Fall.
