R'get
"Ah..." R'get sat back, disappointed. Killos hadn't Impressed. He ran a hand through his brown hair. Shards, I should've held his hand, like I did Liesol's! What if it is my fault that he didn't Impress?
I suppose, Pallath mused, the hatchling's choice had nothing to do with this. Just your hand.
R'get stared at his hand, feeling like the absolute worst loser in the world.
D'rave
"Faranth, was she loud!" D'rave agreed, and then puzzled as the woman seemed distracted by something. He remained awkwardly silent for a couple of moments, not knowing exactly what he was supposed to do, was she talking to her dragon?
Was she talking to her dragon about how silly he was? Girls... did that, right?
He breathed a sigh of relief when she turned back and addressed him again. "You're a Searchrider as well?" he asked, delighted. Female, check. Fellow bluerider, check! And a Searcher like he was, triple check! Awesome, why weren't they friends yet? They should totally be friends!
D'rave was one of 'those' riders, who believed that blueriders should always hang out with blueriders. It would be a stretch to call him colorist, for he had no illusions that some greenriders were better than him and some bronzeriders... much worse people than he. However, you were supposed to hang out with your team, your group, yeah? So blueriders stuck with blueriders and all that jazz.
"Which one is yours? Over there, you see, that one," Vahguel, "Liesol, the one with the first green that hatched, that was one of ours!"
Some searchriders fell into the habit of boasting their candidates as if they were proud parents, and D'rave fell into that category.
Liesol
"M-Mollin, you Impressed! Congratulations," Liesol said shyly, approaching her friend. It had been difficult with the others. Zandikar did not like talking to her, outside of a few times that they shared art. Oh, though she supposed he would be called differently now... Carmortin and Belizor, too, they'd have different names... and she had such trouble with names to begin with.
The two girls who had Impressed gold... to be honest, it was frightening to even think of congratulating them, even if Hawedith had prodded her between bites of meat.
Realizing she'd been staring blankly into space for a few minutes, Liesol blinked rapidly, and looked down at Daltilith. "You're quite handsome," she admired, giving him a slight curtsy. She had always thought blues were the prettiest.
Of course, if she were honest, she thought Hawey was the best--but then, she supposed, all weyrlings felt the same.
Hawedith peered curiously at her clutch brother with the rapt attetion of someone that wanted to learn all of the things and as fast as possible, even as she leaned slightly against Liesol to give hers strength. She decided her clutch brother seemed safe enough for Liesol, not like that slimy strangling boy, even if the blue was making funny honking noises.
How do you make those noises? Could you teach me? Hawedith wondered, tilting her head.
But before anything else could happen, a large, bronze shape landed on the sands. The clutch father and dragon of the current Weyrleader had arrived, and on his back was both the Weyrwoman and the Weyrleader! Liesol thought they both looked quite Impressive. And wasn't the bronze a handsome creature? No wonder he and the golden Queen had produced so many beautiful creatures.
WOW Hawedith looked up, wondrously he is big! Almost as big as she is. And did you see what they did? I will do that!
She was already darting nimbly forward.
I will fly! she seemed delighted by this, stretching her little wings out, and dancing up and down in excitement at the possibility.
"No, Hawedith, come back," Liesol reached out and tugged her back. She was glad the hatchling hadn't fallen and broken something. "You'll get squished... and, besides, they're important you have to give them room."
Why?
Liesol blinked. "I. I don't? It--it is proper?"
Hawey wriggled a little, and Liesol let her go. Trust me, LiesolMine! It will be fine! And then the determined little green hatchling, after a quick nuzzle against Liesol's hand, ran forward to get closer to Fath and Zalmaranth, quite fearlessly.
Hello! You are both so very big! Will I be big like that someday?
