Liesol squeaked, going very still as the dragon approached, remembering her lessons about mauling, and wondering if she was in the way between the green and her chosen, and, oh, if only she could force her body to move and--
LiesolMine! Oh I thought I would never find you! The dragon--Hawedith, something pressed into her mind--Hawedith pressed against her like an affectionate feline, like Plumpkins would when he wanted a treat or to be petted back at home, I love you, LiesolMine! I’m so glad you came!
Oh.
Oh.
Liesol looked down and stared at the dragon. Hawedith stared back. "I... I, of course I came," the harper said, reaching down to scratch her eyeridges, as she had heard that dragons liked. Hawedith made a pleased noise and Liesol was momentarily shocked that she could feel the happiness echo in her own mind, before a smile stretched ear-to-ear. "Of course I came, I had to, didn't I?" she said as she hugged her Hawedith tightly.
The green sent waves of warm affection back, which soothed Liesol's admittedly quite shattered nerves. For a few beats, the two new-bonded simply enjoyed the strange and wonderful connection--before Hawedith looked around her.
Oooh there are so many new things around, LiesolMine! What are all of these things? The little green hatchling was momentarily distracted from nuzzling hers by the people, and the grown dragons, and the big gold mother towering above. She had been far too distracted earlier to notice, too intent on finding hers when Liesol so obviously needed her so badly, but now the curious green had nothing in the way to stop her from exploring--
Grumble went her stomach.
"Hawedith," Lie said softly, reaching out to touch the green's hide. She didn't want to chastise the green, not when she could feel all that love radiating from her--what if she messed it up? Had a dragon ever taken back Impresson?
No... she was being silly. Hawedith would never leave her. She knew that with a confidence that surprised her, considering they had only just met.
"I. Um. I think we have to get you fed, first? And you're tired, I can feel it? Lets do that first, okay?"
Hawedith's eyes danced with affection, and she brushed her head against Liesol's hand. I will eat if it stops Liesolmine from worrying. I will eat and then I will sleep and then I will explore!
Liesol laughed, a soft sound like a bell. "Okay," she agreed, "that sounds like fun." She was feeling a little bit dizzy. How ever had she Impressed such a wonderful creature?
You are the wonderful one. the dragon crooned, startling Liesol. Had anyone ever said something like that to her? She giggled helplessly and shook her head, but felt a giddy rush of happiness that was unlike anything she'd ever felt. Was this what Impression was like for everyone? Why, no wonder there were so many songs of it!
She was about to leave when she heard someone congratulate her. Liesol blinked, turning her head around rapidly for a few seconds, before seeing that it was Srunae. "Oh! Thank you so much!" Liesol said, breathlessly, the joy of Impressing seeming to have winded her, "Um. Good luck!" She added, remembering her manners, and then darted off with Hawedith before she could embarrass herself further by giggling like a maniac.

"Ha!" R'get said out loud. This is why you are not a Searchdragon, my love.
That is fine Pallath responded, dryly, as I do not wish to be.
"Yeah, yeah." R'get said. "Shards, it looks like I've still got it!" He waggled the fingers of his lucky hand, and then internally cursed himself. He should have held Killos's hand while he was down there... too late now.
But another beautiful green! Greens truly were the best color of them all. Liesol had done well, though she looked a bit... flabbergasted at the moment.
~
Vah grinned, sharply. No, it should be easy to find out.
Ugh gag him with a spoon. The green had gone and Impressed to silly, stupid Liesol, one of the female candidates that Vahguel knew by virtue of her being one of the most annoying candidates he'd met. Vah made a face in disgust, though he was careful, by force of habit, not to make an unpretty expression. And what a sappy scene, complete with hugging--and was that a tear? Vahguel couldn't understand what was with that, it wasn't as if a whole dragonton of marks had just spilled out from the sky, which was certainly the only thing he'd ever cry over.
Darnell, meanwhile, had Impressed a bronze. Vah glanced at the hatchling, slightly more interested now. Darnell wouldn't have Impressed to some horribly boring dragon, of course, so perhaps that dragon would be alright. Besides, a bronze! The rank was very good, as high as a man could hope to get.
He smirked. He'd made marks off of that one. Luckily for him, most everyone had seemed to underestimate his--friend? Was that the right word? Ally, maybe.
It seemed silly to congratulate Darnell on Impressing what Vah thought was a given, so the young man only took note of the dragon's name, Nadornith, and then turned away to watch the rest of the event.
Thankfully, things were about to get a tad bit more interesting.
Vahguel's eyes narrowed on the green and blue when the male dragon got in her way, where before he'd only been watching half-heartedly. His eyes widened as they begun to fight. Wait, hatchlings did that? Neat. And here he'd considered them placid beasts. A small part of his brain remembered the canine fights he'd been a part of at his Hold, and the marks he'd made from it. Vahguel glanced up at the larger dragons and a small idea fired up in his brain. Wouldn't it be a curious treat to see the big creatures burn and scratch and claw at each other?
Oh, looked like the green lost. Biiig surprise there, when the blue was a higher ranking color. And she went between, too. Vah rolled his eyes. Picky arse. She only had to chose from one of the many, what was the big deal?
He kept this to himself, of course. Everyone else seemed far too upset when it was the dimwitted creature's own fault. Weyrfolk were so curst'd sappy.
Now, the gold hatchlings, that got his attention. Vahguel's eyes narrowed in on them. Whomever they Impressed to, he would be sure to keep in mind. For if he stayed here, he would need to find all the right people to keep in his pocket, and why not start at the top? Power surely did not interest the boy--but what did, was protection, so that he could pursue what he wanted in life without fearing that his freedom would be taken away. One wrong move and... well, it was best to keep a goldrider or two entwined about his fingers, if he could manage it.
Vahguel slid his way, serpent-like, through the crowds of people, attempting to see who the golden sisters had Impressed to. He kept going forward until he was close enough.
In fact, he was right behind a girl that he had not seen before. Right behind Maylin. Nothing could go wrong in this situation. Nothing at all.
~
When the blue and green fought each other, Liesol had flinched and instinctively grabbed hold of Hawedith. She felt tears stream hot down her cheeks as the green betweened. Hawedith made a troubled noise in the back of her throat, then stopped to wind herself tightly about Liesol, her eyes going red as a fierce protectiveness rose from her, shocking them both.
Hawedith paused, and then crooned gently. LiesolMine, I will never leave you. My sister could not find hers, but I found you! I cannot fight what makes you sad...
Liesol took a deep, shuddering breath, her gentle soul strongly affected by the death, but Hawedith needed her to be brave. She leaned against the green and felt her heart beating. Hawedith was here. Everything would be alright.
Lie felt herself cheered later, with the other Impressions. She especially seemed lightened by the sight of the beautiful, smaller gold Impressing Srunae, who deserved it greatly. Remembering her manners, whenever a newly Impressed pair came over, Liesol was sure to congratulate them, even the ones she did not know so well.
She did not uncoil from Hawedith's comforting squeeze, though.

R'get sighed.
It is for the best Pallath reminded him, her voice uncharacteristically gentle. If you had not been there the day I had hatched--
"That does not help," R'get growled, anger rising from that small dark place that he rarely ever reached. Lady, who was wrapped around his neck as she normally was, fluffed up in astonishment. The baby gemglider unraveled herself and chided hers for poor behavior, sending strong feelings of disapproval at him. Then she began the long process of soothing down her fur.
R'get stroked Lady, in apologies, and then reached out to his dragon. Sorry, Palla love. Just... don't. I don't want to think of that.
There was a moment of strained silence. Pallath thought to herself about how testy hers had been, but wisely refrained from responding to his mood. They watched as other eggs split open and the babies within creened for their bondeds.
Others hatch now. They will find their lifemates. I do not understand how Fath managed it, but there are even two golds...
R'get snorted. Pallath, be nice, he's your own clutchmate.
It does not make it any less strange Pallath said primly. She would have mocked hers on his hypocritical attitude towards mocking Azzy, however, that was a sore point at the moment, and thus she did not.
Look, they hatch!
The greenrider reluctantly let his mood be lifted by the incredibly good news that was two healthy, lovely golds. Fath's or not, Farnath knows they needed them. Mavros needed them.
Lady perked up too, admiring the shininess of the golds below, though she felt herself better by far. She made this clear. R'get laughed at her, which caused the gemglider to puff up in anger again. Why! She'd never!
Obviously the attention was supposed to be on her, not on those non-fluffy ugly things below. Lady fussed at her fur again, irritated. She did not like non-fluffy things at all!
"Oh look, Srunae Impressed one of the golds!" Rau was delighted. Kes had Searched her, which sent a rush of pride through her friend. Besides, he liked the beastcrafter, she'd been quite helpful with Lady.
Unfortunately, he knew very little about the other gold weyrling, but he stood up in the stands and clapped for both of them.
