NAME: Vitra
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 12 Turns
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Not even sure yet
PETS: None
APPEARANCE:
Vitra is a slip of a girl, often described by her mother as willowy- whatever that means. She still has a touch of baby fat clinging to her cheeks, giving her face a round appearance which will eventually fade. Her auburn hair is long and thin, generally worn loose and kept out of her face with a leather band, dyed any number of colors, tied around her head.
She’s not very tall just yet, currently standing at a height of four feet, ten inches, with possibly one or two growth spurts left; she’ll top out at five feet, five inches. Her stride is one taught from since she could understand- a ladylike one. No long strides, merely placing each foot just in front of the other- and no running, unless absolutely necessary.
As of yet, Vitra doesn’t have much in the way of preference in clothes, but she will come to display a marked appreciation for bright colors, enjoying most the ones that catch the eye and cause people to notice her- if only briefly.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Assertive: Vitra very often knows exactly what she wants- both in the moment and in general. When with her agemates, she rarely hesitates to speak her mind and take control- or try to; around her parents, it’s harder. While not easily intimidated, she knows that her parents are quite set in their ways and her trying to stand up for whatever they don’t want her to do will only end badly. Once she’s free of them, this will bud and become somewhat of an issue that might well need to be addressed.
Competitive: She has to be the best, no matter what she’s doing. Whether in play with the other ‘brats of the Hold or in lessons, she strives to run faster, learn quicker, learn more. Encouraged by her mother, it’s become an obsession that she can’t seem to shake.
Stubborn: This ties in with her assertiveness; again, it’s most noticeable with those her own age. She’ll push her own ideas forward and rarely back down on them, never budging for an idea someone else brings up. Her desire to be a rider is one such idea that, while she doesn’t bring it up after the poor reaction from her mother, hasn’t faded.
Insatiable: The need to know things can also tie in to her drive: she likes to learn new things, enjoys storing information away, and her photographic memory helps her to never forget what she’s learned once. She’s most interested in learning a craft in a field where you’re often never out of things to learn- Healing, either for people or dragons, and she vows one day to find someone to take her on as an apprentice.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Analytical: Vitra thinks things through- thoroughly. And sometimes maybe too much. But she enjoys knowing the ins and outs of the Hold, how the Lord runs it, why people do what they do. She’s never satisfied with hearing ‘that’s how things are’- she wants to know why. Question everything is her favorite saying, and the holdbound ways of her mother and the colorist attitude of her father both irritate her.
Empathetic: Yes, she does have the ability to sense when someone might be upset, or angry- visual cues in the way they act or talk tip her off. She may attempt to talk to them, but unless she really understands how they feel, she may fall a bit short. Still- when she cares to- she tries.
Outgoing: Vitra isn’t a bit shy. She’ll approach anyone, greet them, act like she’s known them all her life. You don’t make friends by being shy, and friends are great to have.
FAMILY: Father: T’vil of bronze Dasiryth, of Benden Weyr
Mother: Arvia, Holdfolk of Benden Hold
Sister: Aleni of gold Riyobith
Brother: T’vir of blue Brauth
HISTORY: Vitra is the last child born to T’vil and Arvia, and as far as they’re concerned, she’s the only girl. She has dim memories of her oldest sibling, and they mostly revolve around Arlin arguing with T’vil and Arvia. When she was four, Arlin disappeared from the family weyr completely, but no amount of questioning persuaded her parents to tell her where Arlin had gone. Not until she was a few Turns older and running around the Hold with her brother, Talvir, did she pick up the pieces of the puzzle.
When Talvir asked, T’vil and Arvia explained their side, piling blame on Arlin for refusing to conform, laying on the insults for acting out in such an unnecessary way. Not until Talvir was Searched by a Mavros rider did any of them know where he had gone to, and the reaction from T’vil as he read the letter was one of disgust. He’s over there walking around like a girl, the bronzerider had spat at Arvia. He’s got them all fooled.
For whatever reason, T’vil brought Vitra along to the Hatchings Talvir Stood for, and so she was there when he Impressed blue Brauth. T’vil’s sigh was one of heavy disappointment, and they left shortly afterward- but not before the man pointed out Arlin, standing in the crowd of girls with shoulder length hair. That was her brother, T’vil said, his tone cold and his face twisting into a sneer.
Vitra watched for just a moment, but said nothing. Arlin was smiling, chatting with another girl, looking incredibly at ease for someone who was the shame of the family.
When Vitra mentioned her wish to follow in T’vir’s footsteps and become a rider too, Arvia gave a flat refusal. Girls stayed home. Girls helped their mothers, did jobs around the Hold, and most certainly didn’t go off to Impress- unless it was to a gold. A gold would be fine, Vitra replied, but a repeat of the denial and a cool glance meant that the matter was dropped.
It did nothing to squash her desire, and the thought of herself on a dragon (always a blue that looked suspiciously like Brauth) was a dream she nursed but kept to herself. Arvia had never even mentioned her request to T’vil. At twelve Turns now, Arvia has begun to give her daughter instruction in cooking, weaving, and cleaning- lessons that are quickly beginning to cause her to chafe.
The recent news from T’vir caused an even greater outrage: Arlin had gone and Impressed a gold. T’vil had gone immediately to see if this was true, and Arvia went about her duties with a hard scowl.
But the news only greater fanned Vitra’s desire- why shouldn’t she have the chance to Impress, just like her older siblings had? So, when she actually managed to get Searched- a bluerider pair named Rachel and Aslith- it was unthinkable for her to turn it down, no matter how angry she knew T'vil and Arvia would be. Especially considering she simply disappeared without a word, because there would be no question about them keeping her from the Weyr. She packed up a spare outfit, a few trinkets, and was on her way.
Hardly had she landed in present-day Mavros than she was being taken between times, nearly eleven Turns back, to Stand for the twin golds' clutches.
And to Impress- to a blue. Tucseth made the choice, and Vitra couldn't have been happier, for the vision she'd so longed for finally come to pass.
IN THE EVENT OF YOUR SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED DISAPPEARANCE FROM THE SITE AT ANY POINT IN TIME, WHAT DO YOU WISH TO BECOME OF THIS CHARACTER AND ANY CREATURES THEY MAY IMPRESS?
b. Turn them into an NPC who may be killed off or used for plot purposes but who will not be played by someone else.
