NAME: C'tan
RANK: Searchrider
AGE: 35 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: pansexual
DRAGON: Blue Hiraeth
APPEARANCE:
Brown hair, brown eyes, and a dark complexion grace the face of this pretty man. Standing at 5’7”, C’tan isn’t a very impressive figure, but it only fits with his personality. He rarely remembers to shave his face until he has an impressive 10 o’clock shadow, but he keeps his hair cut relatively short because he hates it flapping around in his eyes when he flies. His body build is rather small. He’s toned and has muscle on his body, it just doesn’t show itself as easily as it shows in others. He wears loose shirts and pants (generally tucked into his boots), and as he is slightly cold natured he often wears a light jacket. Layers are his best friend.
PLAYBY: Misha Collins
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
C’tan is easily influenced by the emotions of others. Thanks to his dragon’s perceptive nature, he experiences the emotions of others around him just as easily as if they were his own. Nostalgic by default, feeling the homesickness and grief of others causes him to spiral into a world where only Hiraeth can reach him. C’tan finds himself easily confused, especially when he comes out of these states. He has a bad habit of zoning out, too, often causing him to miss jokes and other key moments that make him feel like fringe. Being soft-spoken doesn’t help, because he just doesn’t say anything and tries to hide the fact that he doesn’t know what’s going on. He rarely argues or complains, making him seem like a doormat.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
However, his dragon compliments his sensitive nature, creating a kind and thoughtful young man. Say you mention in a random conversation that your favorite thing is a sweet roll with a cup of klah. Months later, you’re upset at something. He’ll bring you a sweet roll and a warm cup of klah. He remembers the little things and uses them. Not to get favors from people, but just to cheer people up. He’s pretty perceptive. He can look between the lines, but he often overthinks things and creates ideas that just simply aren’t there. He’s very adept at relating to people, making him a very good Searchrider. Ironically, he is best at helping the people who don’t want to leave their life behind.
FAMILY: Smithy, father || Amelia, mother || Tiryn, twin brother || Samul, younger brother || Larielle, younger sister
HISTORY:
Firstborn to merchant Smithy and his wife Amelia, Catan was to take over the business. His twin brother, Tiryn, joined him as a business partner-in-training. Catan showed his skills in the numbers and figures. Product A is in demand in Market B, but Product C is really cheap there. Product C is in demand in Market D, but Product A is really cheap there. He arranges for the products to be bought in cheap and sold in high price, but Tiryn found his strength in his voice. He would barter and take control of any situation, but he took the prices from his brother.
As they grew, they developed their skills. By thirteen, the brothers figured out exactly how they’d work together. Tiryn handled the bartering. He could sweet talk anyone (except his father) into anything. Catan handled the behind the scenes work, but together they made a great team. Smithy liked the partnership that had developed between the two brothers. He encouraged them to work together, giving them difficult scenarios and forcing them to work together. But while the two grew closer, Samul grew more and more upset with his brothers. They were the ones who his father adored. He was left to the care of their mother (along with Larielle) and never got to do anything.
One day, a Searchdragon came to Cove Hold, searching for Monaco Bay Weyr. He would have left, finding no one, but Samul convinced the rider to come see his family. There, the dragon sensed Catan and informed his father. Smithy refused. He would not lose his oldest son to dragons. But it was Amelia’s quiet insistence, the fact that a dragonrider in the family would help their business, and the fact that they couldn’t refuse a rider that sent Catan packing and to the Weyr.
Quiet and shy, Catan made few friends and found himself caught in a large pool of homesickness. He missed working with his father and brother, and their home in Cove Hold. He missed it all. The Hatching came, and he Impress the large blue Hiraeth, a dragon who he soon discovered was sensitive, not only to potential Candidates, but also to the feelings that plagued him. They passed weyrlinghood in good standing and joined the Searchdragon team.
At the next Searching, C’tan almost couldn’t take the Candidates with him, but he did. He felt every loss from every family. Did the parents say yes but mean no? He felt it. Did the newly named Candidates already miss their bed? He felt it. From the Searching to the Hatching, C’tan and Hiraeth endured the pains of the Candidates with them, feeling their longing for home and things of the past. He couldn’t deal with it anymore.
C’tan transferred to Tidewalk Weyr, reading and learning how to fish. He used the time on the ocean to soothe his mind, Hiraeth wheeling overhead and relaxing as well. At the inception of Mavros, C’tan joined the group, if only to get away from the pain he found at the Southern Continent.
IN THE EVENT OF YOUR SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED DISAPPEARANCE FROM THE SITE AT ANY POINT IN TIME, WHAT DO YOU WISH TO BECOME OF THIS CHARACTER AND ANY CREATURES THEY MAY IMPRESS?
b. Turn them into an NPC who may be killed off or used for plot purposes but who will not be played by someone else.
