NAME: Serkad
RANK: Candidate
AGE: 16 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
APPEARANCE:
Serkad is a strapping young man, standing at 5’11” and a hefty 180 pounds. His caramel-colored skin retains its color year round, turning into a darker and richer hue during the sunnier seasons. Underneath this skin lies a muscular body, toned well by his work around the Weyr and strengthened by the constant lifting he does. Curly black hair tops his head, creating a bouncing ball of hair that announces his presence to the room. Brown eyes and a constant shade of stubble on his jaw complete the look of a carefully scruffy persona. Serkad generally wears a sleeveless shirt and loose pants, often choosing boots as his footwear. During the colder months he wears longer-sleeved shirts and fur-lined jackets, doing his best to keep warm.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Serkad is depressed. There’s really no other way to put it. He is suffering from extreme clinical depression, but the poor boy is a master at hiding it. He can craft his emotions to be happy, and he almost has himself convinced that he’s okay. Other than the depression, he’s very rash. He makes hasty decisions without realizing the consequences for them, and usually has to get himself out of a scrape somehow. He’s loud and stubborn, believing that his way is the best way. He is open to suggestions, but only after he’s done things his way (and most likely made a fool of himself).
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
The only thing that shows in public is Serkad’s depression. However, if this depression ever goes away, a giant shroud will be removed, showing a full, bright, and happy young man. Serkad is a good listener and appreciates being listened to. Really, he wants a friend, and someone to treat him nicely. While desiring a friend, he also doesn't mind knowing someone for more primal reasons. He doesn't do anything about it now, but he is a womanizer who enjoys a pretty face. He knows he's attractive and would use it if he actually had a reason to enjoy life. He is also ambitious, but in a good sense. Once a goal or dream takes root in his head, he will not let it go until it happens.
FAMILY: T’rey, green Thinith, father (deceased)
Serena, mother (deceased)
HISTORY:
Serkad, born to dragonrider T’rey and harper Serena in Tidewalk, was placed in the creche as soon as he could be. It didn’t matter that he had T’rey laugh and Serena’s eyes -- they didn’t want him. His parents continued with their lives, T’rey caring for his dragon and Serena in her Harper duties. After eleven years of a generally happy life, Serkad’s parents identified themselves when they took him to Mavros with the early settlers. He was confused. If his parents wanted him, why had they never visited him before? He saw plenty of other children get visits from their parents, but why not him?
In Mavros, he was shoved into the creche again as his parents left him to the care of others. He tried to settle again, struggling to live among the group of kids who had to become his new friends. T’rey and Serena didn’t come to visit him again, leaving him very resentful, and honestly kind of depressed. His parents only cared enough to uproot him from his familiar setting and place him in a new Weyr -- a rogue Weyr. He was not a happy child. Serkad retreated into himself even more, becoming a quiet child that acted out in anger. Unable to be appeased, he was sent to live with Serena in her quarters, but she refused him and sent him back to the creche.
Several months later, Thread fell. T’rey and Thinith died in Threadfall, fighting fiercely until the Thread caught Thinith and she went between. Serena, caught unsuspected outside, died from the malicious Thread. Mourned as a hero and a poor soul, everyone was surprised when their only child felt no remorse over their death.
Now, even more outcast, Serkad longs for something to keep him going. He is depressed to the depth of his being and has considered ideas of suicide, but he’s always been unable to follow through with his threats. Somehow, he was found to be a good Candidate but did not Impress at the most recent Hatching, and now he waits for another Clutch to hit the sands.
