"Shard it!"
R'get slammed his fist into the trunk of a tree, hard enough so that he withdrew bleeding.
Pallath made a worried sound from where she was playing in the water. It was late, but R'get had said something about bathing her in this lake, so she'd flown out with him against direct instructions from the weyrlingmaster. They were outside of the distance they were allowed, but Pallath was confident in her powers in the air, and R'get had seemed sane of mind.
'Had', being the key word.
Her rider had spent the last twenty minutes pacing around, growling under his breath, messing with his brown hair, and generally doing the opposite of even looking healthy.
"Don't you ever fall in love, Pallath," R'get snapped, ignoring the fact that she was a dragon, and that dragons worked differently. The awkward, just-growing-into-herself green tilted her head and regarded him with some curiosity. "It is stupid and it hurts and sometimes when you think you have a good thing going it winds up that they don't love you back."
You called Fath's rider and Nimiath's rider, but not Godoth's rider as you typically do. Why is this?
"Because--shard it, Palla, because I don't want to see him! Arghhh," R'get groaned and leaned back against the tree, trying to gather himself.
It was weird, being angry. It wasn't something he enjoyed being. But B'nar...
What was he supposed to feel?
"Then he goes and throws that stupid celebration of his, with his stupid little presents to commemorate our weyrling group and how we're about to graduate, and I'm supposed to... to do, what, exactly? Show up and smile when he hands me mine? Like we're just friends?"
A small, selfish part of him wanted to grab Azzy and Kes from B'nar and see how he liked the feeling of losing something important to him.
Not the same thing as losing your heart, but apparently R'get never had B'nar's to begin with.
