Turn 2762
10th Pass, 7th Turn, 3rd Month
Aleni of gold RiyobithT'vir of blue Brauth
Aleni was in the middle of feeding her four pets- two gemgliders, a seaspitter and a firelizard. It made for an interesting time, sorting through the food for each species. And Dab refused to be fed by hand, so her meal was dropped into a separate bowl so she could feed herself. It was surprising, sometimes, to think about how she hadn’t just gone feral, but she still felt some sort of connection to Aleni- and Sleek- and she seemed to understand that food from Aleni was much easier to obtain than hunting for her own. Sleek, Red and Skylight were far more willing to hang off Aleni and take the food she offered. Red was more insistent, sometimes managing to steal bites meant for Skylight, but then she was full faster and took off to bask and digest while…
Your clutchmate is here. Riyobith’s voice, while unexpected, was gentle enough to keep her from jumping in surprise, and she kept feeding Sleek and Skylight as she nodded. A smile slid across her face, anticipating an easygoing conversation with Vitra about whatever she’d been up to and what Aleni had been up to.
Not Tucseth’s. Riyo’s tone was equal parts apologetic and annoyed. Brauth’s. And that made two unexpected things: Riyo wasn’t known for getting annoyed. She took life as it came and let it roll off her back, or encouraged others to do the same. The other was T’vir- why, why, had he come to her weyr? She hadn’t had anything to do with him since Vitra’s return. Since T’vil had shown up and made a scene about Vitra’s disobeying and subsequent Impression of Tucseth. Should I send him away?
Distracted now, Aleni nudged Sleek and Skylight into flight, promising she’d finish feeding them later, and turned her attention upward to the ledge of her weyr. What does he want?
To talk, came the unsatisfying reply, and Riyo continued without prompting, speaking to the bluerider. That’s not good enough. About what?
He didn’t know why he was even here. Or, to be honest, he did- but then he didn’t. It was a mess, he was confused and not really happy about any of it and he was about two seconds from throwing his hands in the air and leaving. T’vir took a breath to speak, let it out, looked away as he tried to gather his thoughts enough to explain himself. He didn’t know, he wasn’t sure, and why had he thought this would be a good idea? Turning around and just walking out was looking more appealing by the moment. Except he was already here and it couldn’t hurt to at least try, right?
“Everything,” he replied, glancing up at the gold again. It wasn’t the best answer and he knew it, but he’d rather talk about it than have to explain what he wanted to talk about. Especially when he wasn’t really sure of it himself. He watched the gold’s tail flick back and forth, a restless motion to go with the yellow of her eyes. She and her rider would be talking, most likely considering whether to send him away. He knew- and even now it was hard to think the name without a surge of distaste- that Aleni wouldn’t be pleased at the interruption.
She comes, Riyobith announced, her tail pausing against her side now. My Aleni will talk with you. You will be courteous to her, or you will leave.
It didn’t sound like a threat, more like a warning. But still, a warning to take to heart. “I understand,” T’vir replied with a nod, and he took a step back to lean against the wall, his gaze now moving over the weyr as he waited. His attention was caught briefly as three pets appeared- a glider, a spitter and a flitter. None of them paid him any attention, the glider all but crash-landing onto the bed and the other two settling into the tub of water placed out of the way.
The door opened and Aleni entered, brown eyes finding him instantly. On her shoulder, her fourth pet, the second glider, who also stared at him. The gold rumbled, a warm sound, and Aleni passed him without a word, the coolness of her gaze softening as she smiled at her dragon.
Aleni reached up to pat the gold, rubbing at her cheek, leaning her head into Riyo’s neck and breathing in the smell of her. She didn’t really want to deal with this- not so suddenly, at least. Set a date and time, give her a chance to steel herself and definitely not try to find a way to get out of it.
But he was here and so she’d deal with it as best she could. Turning to her brother again, Aleni eyed him a moment and then waved a hand at the table. “You can sit if you want, and tell me why you’re here while you do.”
