NAME: Renaria (Rena)
RANK: Fort Lord Holder’s Daughter
AGE: 20 Turns (11th Month)
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
PETS: N/A
APPEARANCE: Renaria is of average height at 5' 6”, with a slim, feminine build and fair skin, telling of her sheltered life. Her hair is a dark brown, sometimes appearing almost black, and falls in long waves to her mid back. Her eyes are bright and seem to shift between green and blue depending on the light or what she happens to be wearing, standing out below dark brows. As a lover of the finer things in life, Renaria enjoys fashion, and prefers to wear elaborate, colorful dresses to anything else.
PERSONALITY FAULTS: Proud, Opinionated, Judgemental, Materialistic, Naive
Renaria is the Blood of Fort, the oldest Hold on Pern, the oldest Bloodline, and she was raised being constantly reminded of the importance of that fact. So if she’s a little self-important, it’s only natural, isn’t it? Renaria has a lot of pride and can come off quite haughty to those she deems as beneath her. She has an expectation of obedience from anyone of a lower station, and so long as she gets it she will be pleasant enough, but she does not take well to being questioned or disagreed with by anyone who isn’t viewed as an equal, of which there are few enough people. There are exceptions, for instance she has several loyal handmaids who she considers more as friends who she encourages to speak their minds around her despite still viewing herself as above them, but these exceptions are rare.
With a keen mind for politics, Renaria is very aware of public perceptions and opinions, and is quite choosy about who she spends her time with. She is a harsh critic, judgemental of those around her, because she refuses to besmirch herself by being associated with anyone deemed undesirable in any way. This isn’t to say she’s shallow and superficial, for appearance is only a fraction of the equation. She is far more concerned with behavior, background, and personality. Should she find anything particularly inappropriate about a person, she will quickly excuse herself from their presence and find more suitable company. Quality and substance are important in her social circle and she has no need to surround herself with dullards and sycophants who add nothing of any worth to her life.
Growing up surrounded by Fort Hold’s opulence, Renaria is used to getting what she wants and living a grandly luxurious life, and so she has a somewhat materialistic mindset. She enjoys the finer things in life immensely: high fashion, expensive art, the best harpers to entertain her, exotic and extravagant meals. This is the life she had growing up, it’s the life she’s accustomed to, and anything less will be quite an adjustment for her. Sheltered in luxury, she can be incredibly naive about just what life is like for the normal Pernese person, and a lack of real life experience outside of her family home has made her perhaps a tad more immature than she thinks she is, with a touch of childish innocence remaining to her. She likes to think herself worldly, and it’s true she has traveled to many different parts of Pern, but only to interact with the elite of the world and enjoy gathers and celebrations in a parade of pageantry, not to see the world as it actually is.
Being an incredibly well learned individual, it should come as no surprise that she is incredibly opinionated. After all, she spends much of her free time reading, about the different crafts, about the other Holds, about the past. She has incredibly varied interests and prefers to know at least a little about any given subject she might encounter so she’s never left floundering, confused or lacking anything to say on a subject. As such, she has an opinion on just about anything that could be brought up in conversation, and the more she knows about it, the stronger her convictions where her opinion is concerned. She is not afraid to voice her opinions, either, though she has at least learned from her mother how to articulate them properly, so that she is far less abrasive about it than she was when she was younger. However, she has a hard time holding her tongue and not sharing her opinion, whether it was asked for or not, and tends to cling to her opinions stubbornly, making it very difficult for anyone to change her mind. She can often find herself in debates, enjoying the mental sparring, sometimes far more than her unwitting debate partner.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: Charming, Determined, Eloquent, Intelligent, Dutiful, Loyal
Despite what some of her faults may lead one to believe, Renaria is incredibly socially adept. Always keeping in mind public appearances, she is able to curb some of her worst habits when in the public eye, swallowing some of her pride and withholding any of her more controversial opinions for the sake of showing the world a better face. Quite a socialite, she is flexible enough to adapt her behavior to the situation in order to manipulate favor among those she’s interacting with. Her ability to work a room is superb and she has the makings of a fantastic hostess. She can be quite charming, with a pleasant and thoughtful eloquence in conversation that can help make some of her less agreeable tendencies more tolerable if they do happen to eke around her public mask. She actually has a generally friendly demeanor which makes her quite approachable, and that demeanor will remain so long as she perceives no disrespect. So long as she receives the respect she believes she deserves, she will be polite and gracious in return.
Using much of her free time for scholarly pursuits, Renaria is quite intelligent with a wide base of knowledge to pull from and can hold her own in just about any topic of conversation. Always interested in expanding her knowledge, she enjoys speaking with people from all the different crafts and Holds and learning new things from everyone she encounters. With a genuine interest in what others have to say, it is easy for her to compel others to speak and share their stories and passions. While she has strong opinions of her own, she is always curious about new thoughts and ideas, things that could lead to progress and innovation, and can be persuaded to support experimental ideas if the person pitching it to her has put enough thought and effort into it to show her they aren’t just a hopeless dreamer going off half cocked. New, fantastic ideas are all well and good but if you have no method or plan of action to accomplish them then she isn’t going to waste her time entertaining childish dreams.
Confident and decisive, you will never catch Renaria hemming and hawing over anything. She makes her decisions swiftly, though not impulsively, after weighing all her options, and stands by them when she’s committed. If Renaria says she’s going to do something, you can trust it will be done and she will not go back on her word. She is an incredibly determined individual and will not give up on a course of action she’s decided on until it becomes clear there is no chance of success at the endeavor, throwing her whole self into her efforts to see things through. Integrity is important to her, both in herself and those around her, and she will not keep company for long with anyone she deems unreliable or untrustworthy. She holds herself to quite a high standard, and expects those around her to meet similar standards if they wish to remain in her circle. She has no qualms about leaving behind anyone who can’t keep up with her expectations.
However, she is incredibly loyal to those who have proven themselves to her, and those who have are met with more leniency, so long as they show her the same loyalty that she shows them. She is willing to go to great lengths and compromise a good deal for those in her inner circle, doing things she may never even consider otherwise. She feels a great sense of duty to her friends and her family and is very good at integrating the duty she feels for others into her own dreams and aspirations, all the better to achieve her goals in the most efficient way that she can. Responsible and practical in her day to day habits, she excels at planning and organizing to ensure everything is running as efficiently as possible.

HISTORY:
Lady Zinara of Fort was an only child and from a young age grew rather concerned about how few members of the Fortian Bloodline remained. She therefore married quite young in order to start having children to better secure the future of her Bloodline. A progressive woman who ruled her Hold in her own right, on equal footing with her husband, she raised each of her eleven children to be proficient in the knowledge of how to run a Hold just as well as any Lord Holder. Renaria, last born of eleven and the sixth daughter, was taught just as well as each of her older siblings. For several turns before her birth, her mother began to suffer miscarriages with increasing frequency. She suffered three just between the births of Renaria and her next eldest sibling, and so when Renaria was delivered successfully she finally gave up on having anymore children as the miscarriages were taking a toll, though she is certainly satisfied enough with the eleven children she has.
Growing up, Renaria and her siblings were honestly quite spoiled, receiving the best Pern had to offer and never wanting for anything, except perhaps more attention from their mother. Lady Zinara has always been incredibly involved in the running of her Hold, placing her duties as Lady above everything else. When her children were young, she left their raising mostly to wetnurses and nursemaids, and only really became involved in their lives after they’d begun their private lessons with a harper. As they grew she would become steadily more involved, but was never a terribly affectionate mother, showing her love in more indirect ways. But with her time split between running the Hold and eleven children, each child got far less than they wanted from her, and it left them all eager to earn more of her attention.
Renaria, like most of her siblings, grew up to be quite a voracious student. Inquisitive and intelligent, the siblings were in constant competition with each other, eager to prove who was the smartest and earn more attention in such a large family. It was, for the most part, friendly enough rivalry between them all, with spirited debates being rather commonplace in the household. As the youngest, Renaria often found herself behind seeing as her siblings had all had more time to learn and so had more knowledge and experience than she did. This was beyond frustrating to the girl and she became perhaps the most studious of all her siblings in her attempt to catch up to them all, and hopefully one day surpass them.
As the last born, she was always the last to accomplish anything, and her successes seemed muted after watching ten other siblings accomplish the same things. So from a young age she began to yearn for something more, something that would set her apart. She dreamt of a legacy that would be hers, something that none of her siblings could claim to have done first, or ever, something that would commit her name to Pern’s memory. It took some time to solidify just what that legacy could be, but she waited for turns for the right opportunity to present itself, never willing to settle for less, despite mounting pressures to do just that.
Lady Zinara had but one real expectation for her children, and that was to give her grandchildren, to further secure the Fortian Bloodline that had come so close to dying out. She allowed her children plenty of freedom, had no desire to use them as political pawns unless they heartily consented, and otherwise simply supported their wishes, so long as they did nothing to embarrass or disgrace themselves… and planned to have plenty of children. It was a lesson she all but brainwashed into them, and they all took it to heart. Almost all of them, anyway. (Unknown to anyone else in the family, when her brother Fendarin accepted Search and went off to Impress at Fort Weyr, it was to escape the pressure to marry and have a litter of children for he could never give his mother what she wanted, being that he was gay.) All the rest of Zinara’s children were wed fairly young and began having children as soon as they could, all but Renaria, who is still holding out for her legacy.
