[2762] 10th Pass, 7th Turn, 3rd Month
Orintek;
It’d been… stupid. Yeah, really stupid. But looking back upon the situation, Orintek couldn’t say he would have done any different. Ever since losing the position of Lord Holder at Mavros, there seemed to be nothing left for him. Not an Uncle’s love nor a way to prove himself and his worth. He sighed. So, perhaps trying to work equipment he wasn’t trained in had been desperate and stupid, and on top of it all – he wasn’t sure if he was trying to prove it to himself or to his uncle who wasn’t even there. He chuckled and shook his head, the holder glanced and him like he was crazy.
“Just… hold this pressure on your leg. We’ve sent for a proper healer to stitch you up.”
He grinned at her, “thank you, I appreciate it. I hope this hasn’t caused you and your husband too much trouble.”
She cocked an eyebrow at him, “only to yourself, it seems.” She shook her own head and walked off, leaving him by himself in the grass. His head swam with stars for a moment, but he blinked them away, taking deep breaths and a sip of the water he’d been given.
He sighed. His smile faltered as he glanced at the red soaked towel that he’d been given to put on his wound. He didn’t have to move it to remember the large gash and other surrounding scratches – some deeper than others. The man tried to keep the pleasant look on his face, but it was hard, because if not a farmer… what, was he supposed to fish? Become a helper in the Weyr? A cook? It was laughable. Truly. Maybe he could ask Asirikai if he could be employed to help with Mavrosi affairs, it was less embarrassing. Still, for what? He’d never known what he wanted, and now less than ever.
