Asirikai - Lord Holder Candidate: Vanisha of Tidewalk
Auburn hair caught his attention as he spoke with Lord Divano about Mavros. The man was shrewd, always had been, and he learned a lot whenever they spoke and the conversation turned to politics. He wasn’t one to become distracted, especially during such a conversation. Asirikai could only blame the color, as odd and captivating as it was. Divano seemed to notice and raised an eyebrow.
“Good thing she takes after Relwisha, thank Faranth.” The man said it with little humor in his voice, in fact, Asirikai couldn’t detect much emotion all together. He smiled and chuckled, nonetheless, and turned their conversation back to current matters. Matters far more important than a woman. No matter how beautiful. He had noted the high cheekbones, soft full lips upturned in a smile, or how her dress had accented her tall lithe body. She had grown up since last he had seen her. When their conversation came to a close, and other young lordlings sought Lord Divano’s attention and goodwill, Asirikai respectfully stepped away. His eyes caught the reddish-auburn hair again, and his body turned of it’s own volition. A dance with the Lord Divano’s daughter could only open doors for him.
“Would you care to dance, my Lady?” Bright blue eyes turned on him, and he felt caught in them. The soft smile he had noted earlier once again transformed her lips, and he watched as she delicately nodded once and placed a silky hand in his. Her hands were beyond soft.
“It would be a pleasure.” Her voice was just as soft as the rest of her seemed to be, velvety, and lower than other simpering ladies normally had. High-pitched grating and giggling could irritate him quickly, and somehow, he doubted her velvet alto would do the same. He led her toward the dancefloor and simply twirled her onto it, immensely pleased as she followed the prompts of his hand submissively. Her form was impeccable. “You waltz as if born to it.” Her compliment reached his ears and he smiled down at her, feeling his pride swell.
“My father always made sure his children were well versed in dance, among other things.” He offered, simply, wondering if she remembered him at all. Her face remained unchanged, as if soaking in the information and easily translating it. “You are far from Cove Hold, my Lord.” He felt chills when she called him that, it felt even better coming from her lips then that greenrider his nephew was so obsessed with.
“As are you from Tidewalk.” He offered. “But please Vanisha, just call me Asirikai.” In fact he wanted to hear his name from her lips. She gave that elegant one nod, her head tilted prettily. “Asirikai. So, what brought you here to Mavros?” She asked, her blue eyes moving from him and then to her surroundings, presumably not to get dizzy. Her use of his name sent another chill down his spine.
“I am here in hopes to win the Lordship of Mavros.” He said simply. “tell me, how is my dear sister? Being treated well, I hope?” A smile ever so tender flitted over the red-head’s face at the mention. “She is doing well, as well as she can be considering Rinvia seems to take charge of the hold and all the hearts within it.” Asirikai chuckled, trying to remember if he had ever met Rinvia. He didn’t think so. A failing on his part, truly.
“Ah, my niece sounds like a handful, I will have to visit them to meet her.” It wouldn’t hurt that he would get to see Vanisha again as well. Well, after he became Lord of Mavros. After he had the Hold under control and flourishing. Nothing could take precedence over that.
“I am sure that would please your sister.” She said demurely, not hinting at all whether it would please her. “Have you ever considered becoming a dragon rider, Asirikai?” She asked thoughtfully. “As a child?” He blinked once, his eyebrows drawn down in thought. Had he? Maybe once, a long, long time ago. A time almost forgotten. A brief vision of that time threatened to cut forth, and he pushed it aside, unwilling to allow it entrance. “I.. Think so. Once maybe. But thoughts of becoming a great leader as my father is must have dominated those dreams a long time ago.” He was surprised by the question, and studied her freckled face, finding no clue as to where the question had come from.
“And you, Vanisha? Have you dreamed it?” Was that a light blush across her cheeks he saw? Or just a trick of the light? “Once or twice. Being surrounded by so many dragonriders it makes one wonder how they lead there life is very different from ours.” He nodded in agreement. Different indeed. Promiscuous and irreverent. In fact, Podrell would fit right in, now that he thought about it.
“Not much of a life for a Lady I would think.” He offered, thinking how it would ruin her. All her talents, beauty, training, squandered for the wanton life of a dragonrider. No, he couldn’t see her fitting in here, not with her gentle, proper ways.
“No, I would suppose not.” She nodded; her smile ever present. She would make an ideal lady. The thought filtered through his mind, and it was a pleasant enough one. Pleasant indeed. She led the conversation on, asking him questions about his desires, hopes, and dreams, artfully staying away from topics more masculine in nature. He found that when the song ended he wasn’t sure he was done with her. He wanted to continue to lead her on, the feel of her in his arms, and the conversation she seemed to manipulate so beautifully.
Still he bowed, manipulating her hand so he could kiss it. “That was the most pleasant dance I’ve had in a good long while.” He murmured, straightening again to give himself one more look. She smile widened, and she curtsied to him, murmuring her own agreement. He escorted her back to her table, and with one last kiss to her hand reluctantly let her go. He would have to seek her out, she had mentioned staying a couple days, and he couldn’t think of a better opportunity then here. He wouldn’t be able to leave Mavros for some time.
His thoughts seemed to snap out of whatever reverie she put him in when he came face to face with Galderran, and conversation once again took a political side to it. Distraction over, time to get back down to business.
