Treyjen

It seemed the tactic may have worked for now, though Treyjen felt a mild flash of guilt under the relief as Treyvin didn’t press further to join his crew. It had been manipulation so he could hide a truth he didn’t want to tell the boy, and it didn’t sit well with him to use such methods on his own children. He’d tried very hard to avoid doing so with L’rey, which was a somewhat sickening thought. Manipulation had become such second nature to him he had to actively try to avoid doing it. His father would sure be pleased, wouldn’t he? The compulsion to drink hit him again, but he did better at resisting reaching for his flask this time.
Treyvin seemed confident about his abilities when he put the idea to him, which only made Treyjen all the more interested to see for himself. It hardly mattered one way or the other, in the end, it was just for the sake of his own curiosity, just another way to get to know more about his son. Though there was some uncertainty in this new relationship, it was far better than the turmoil of emotions that his reunion with L’rey brought. In that he felt helpless to the decisions of his past, and L’rey was in sole control of how they moved forward, if they did at all. In this, however… he had some manner of control, a blank slate to build on, with Treyvin clearly interested in getting to know him and spend time with him.
As Treyvin called him captain, he considered for a moment. It had made sense before, the boy calling him sir, when he hadn’t been open about their relationship just yet. But now? The formality seemed a bit off putting. “You don’t have to keep up formalities with me, Treyvin,” he said after a moment, “Unless you’re more comfortable with it, at least.” He reached up to rub the back of his neck briefly, a bit uncertain about just what the boy ought to call him, “You don’t have to call me… father, or anything… it isn’t like I’ve been one to you… but my name would do well enough, if you’d prefer?” Treyvin could call him whatever he was most comfortable with, even if keeping up with something more formal was what he wanted - it wasn’t like they knew each other well just yet - but he didn’t want the boy to feel obligated.
“As for when…,” he scratched thoughtfully at his beard, “We’ll be spending plenty of time tomorrow unloading for the Hold trade and I’ll be spending at least part of the evening assessing the inventory we’ve got left. Day after tomorrow, come by after you’ve had your breakfast. I’ll be spending most of the morning setting up in the Hold commons, if you’d like to help, and the rest of the day’ll be for selling. I usually spend a couple days in the Hold commons before I move shop to the Weyr commons. If you’ve an affinity for bartering, you’re welcome to join me any day you’ve got free. It’s likely I’ll be selling in one place or another for the next sevenday before everything gets picked over and the novelty wears off.”
