Fehloax – 8 turns old
The boy kicked his feet slowly, one hand propped his head up on the table, the other stirred his wherry stew with his utensil. He sighed forlornly. Always the same thing; food, classes, trips, sleeping… he glanced up with his head still propped as a brunette settled with her food off to the side at his table. He rolled his eyes. And dragonriders and dragons. It was always the same thing. It was so stuffy and boring. He sighed again, glancing up again and noticing the knots on her dragon riding gear. Fehloax shifted, his dark eyes look over her brunette features. His eight year old mind sort of imagined that his mother would look something like her, not that he cared…
He straightened and took a bite, chewing and swallowing quickly. “Hey, you’re a green rider – that’s what your knots mean.” It took a moment for the woman to realize the boy was talking to her, she glanced around – probably looking to see where his other friends were, he didn’t really have any. Or perhaps she was looking to see if he was in the right area?
“That’s right. You’re a sharp young man.”
Duh. Learning knots wasn’t that hard, it didn’t make him sharp. “Well, supposedly my mom is a green rider. Don’t know who though.” He shrugged, averting his gaze and the woman was immediately uncomfortable, glancing around.
“Huh… well… that’s…” The woman seemed to be at a loss of what to say, they always did, he kinda liked making adults feel uncomfortable.
“Don’t worry lady. I’m not saying you’re her.” He scoffed and rolled his eyes, still not looking over at her. Somewhere deep inside, a part of him hurt, but he threw it off to the side with the scoff, digging back into his food.
“Oh.” The woman seemed to not know what to say still, glancing over at him every once in a while as they ate. He finished up quick and pushed his plate away, leaving it there. He was sure the green rider would feel guilty enough to take his plate for him. He wasn’t sure why it made them feel so guilty, it wasn’t like it had been them who had abandoned him. Well… perhaps they should feel guilty. No one was ever guilty enough to care after the one encounter though. He stood up. “See ya, lady.” Though he hoped he didn’t see her again, or any other green rider, he couldn't wait till he could start apprenticing outside of the Weyr.
