NAME: Nalyra
RANK: Sea Trader/Pirate, Captain of the Bright Wing
AGE: 24 Turns
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
APPEARANCE: Nalyra is a slight woman, standing at only 5’ 1”, lean with muscle from the physical work she performs aboard her ship. She has a rather deceptive look to her and is much stronger than most would think upon first meeting her. Her complexion is tanned and warm from all her time spent in the sun and her brown hair sports natural, sun touched highlights, which she wears at shoulder length and always looks a bit wild and windswept. Her eyes are a warm amber brown, sometimes more one or the other depending on the light. Though she hasn’t worn a dress or skirts in turns, she prefers form fitting clothes and still manages to look incredibly feminine for the preference as it shows off her curves quite well.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Nalyra is in general a rather selfish and hedonistic person, impatient and demanding with a fiery temper. There are not many moral lines she isn’t willing to cross if it helps her achieve her goals. There is no obstacle too large to deter Nalyra from getting what she wants, but she tends to smash through such obstacles without hesitation or care for the consequences, rather than to find a safer, more subtle way to get past them. While she does not lack tact, she doesn’t tend to use it, generally having little care for how her words are received and much preferring to speak her mind than to let someone else’s weakness hold her back in any way.
She is a woman who refuses to be silenced, subdued, or tamed, and to say she comes on strong would be an understatement. Her self confidence has long since grown into full on arrogance and she thinks very highly of herself, and usually very little of those around her, particularly men, or weak willed meek women. She tends to view people as entertainment and enjoys manipulating them for no other reason than to get a reaction. She is incredibly observant and intuitive, with a special talent for sniffing out others’ weaknesses to use to her advantage. All that matters to Nalyra is that she gets what she wants, when she wants it, and she will stoop to any low to make it happen.
Nalyra is not a woman who forgives or forgets and will hold a grudge for a lifetime, unless she can plan a proper way to pay you back and then promptly forget your existence. A betrayal will lose you her trust forever and you can be sure that whatever revenge she plans for you will not be quick or merciful. She has a sadistic side that comes out in full force when it comes to those who have wronged her.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Nalyra is incredibly intelligent, quick witted and able to improvise easily. She could accomplish great things if she ever turned her mind toward something productive, instead of just messing with people. She actually has quite a mind for figures, though she finds it all terribly dull, perhaps because it isn’t enough of a challenge for her. She has a carefree sort of attitude and a blunt honesty with those she considers part of her family, which is rather large and extended to the majority of the crew between the three ships sailing in her brother’s fleet. She can be surprisingly supportive, in her own obnoxious sort of way, when it comes to those she actually gives a damn about.
Strangers should beware, as she lies easily to anyone she doesn’t care about, but if you can count yourself in her circle, you can be sure anything she says to you is the truth, whether you want to hear it or not. While this can at times make her more than a bit grating, she’s also pretty easy to have a good time with, so long as you’re not easily offended. She has a surprising streak of loyalty for those she considers family, considering her usual selfish nature, and is more than willing to kill for the majority of her shipmates. Messing with any of them is a sure way to bring down the full fury of her wrath on your head.

HISTORY:
The last born child and only daughter of the Sea Trader Treylok and his wife Jenara, it was always quite clear to Nalyra how little her father wanted her. Spending her first several turns in Tillek with her mother and brother Treyjen, she grew incredibly close to the boy. When she was too small to follow after him when he went to play, she would often cry when he left her with her mother. Her elder brother Reyloran was about sometimes as well, but more often than not he was going out with their uncles, fishing and bringing back the day’s catch. On the rare occasions that her father and eldest brother returned to Tillek between trading voyages, neither of them had much to do with her. If ever she tried to get her father’s attention, he would always hand her back to her mother, simply telling her to be a good girl before he went back to his own business.
Eventually she was old enough that she, Treyjen, and her mother returned to their travel aboard her father’s ship. She did her best to follow Treyjen around, but generally he had work to do and their father was constantly sending her back to her mother’s side. She hated it. She wanted to play with her brother. Or at least help him work. It wasn’t fair at all. But before her father noticed, Treyjen generally managed to teach her a little bit about the work he was doing. However, every time, it seemed, her father simply grew more irate about it. She just wanted to help Treyjen and didn’t understand at all why her father refused to let her. Instead she was supposed to be learning from her mother, learning a woman’s place. And she rather thought a woman’s place was a stupid place to be.
Treyjen started doing bad things, ‘acting out’ as her mother put it, stealing trinkets here and there just because he could, or at least that’s what he told Nalyra. Sometimes he gave them to her, if it was something he thought she would like, but then her mother would ask her where she got it, and her father would end up dragging Treyjen away to punish him for stealing. Treyjen normally told her to find their mother when that happened, but sometimes she didn’t, and she heard her brother’s cries. So she stopped letting him give her things because it always seemed to get him in trouble, and she didn’t want to hear him cry out like that anymore. She asked him many times why he kept taking things, but he never really had a good answer for her. Usually it was just to see if he could, if he could get away with it. That there was a thrill to it. It didn’t make much sense to Nalyra, not when she knew what happened to him when he did get caught.
Her father and mother tried to keep him away from Treyjen for several turns, while he insisted on stealing things, told her he was a bad influence, but she didn’t care. He was the only one that let her be herself and do what she wanted. He didn’t try to tell her to be a lady, to know her place. But they were separated for a short time when Treyjen decided to fight back against their father one day. It was all their mother could do not to have him sent to live in Tillek with her older brother Rey. Instead Treyjen was sent to their brother Jeylokar’s ship and Nalyra was forbidden to see him. It was an intensely lonely time in her life, even if it only lasted for a few months, it seemed more like turns. The only person she spent much time with was her mother, being good as she had promised her brother she would be.
When her brother returned to her father’s ship some months later, although somewhat subdued from what she remembered, she was overjoyed. The two of them quickly picked back up where they had left off, and Nalyra was glad when it didn’t seem like he was stealing anymore, and there were no more horrible days of their father dragging him to his quarters for punishment. Time passed relatively uneventfully from then, though her brother still angered her father now and then, it was nothing like before. And then one day, somehow, Treyjen was named a captain of his own ship and Nalyra moved to his ship with him, refusing to be left without him again. It was great to be out from under their father’s thumb.
However, it was only a short couple turns later that her father informed her of her upcoming marriage, which she apparently had no say in. She tried to refuse, to tell him there was no way she was going through with it, but he threatened to take Treyjen’s ship from him, to drop them both in Tillek and leave them there. She knew how much Treyjen loved his ship and she couldn’t be the reason he lost it. Without any other option, she agreed, running off before her father could see her cry and ending up in the one place she felt safest. Treyjen’s quarters. She told him of their father’s plan for her, of the threats that were made, and Treyjen assured her none of it would happen. It was only two nights later that the Storm’s Eye sailed out of Tillek, never to return, taking her far away from her father’s influence.
The next turn wasn’t exactly easy, but away from having to play some part for her father, Nalyra flourished. She could finally be herself in the freedom her brother had made for them, and she swore she would never go back to being that powerless girl ever again. She had spent her entire life feeling as if she had no control over it, but no one could control her anymore. She could be whatever she wanted, do whatever she wanted, and no one could stop her. Not ever again. When the crew began to have trouble due to not being able to go near the more populated coastal holds, after word of their stolen ship had spread, it was Nalyra that suggested they simply take what they needed to survive. She was in no hurry to give up their freedom. If they turned pirate they would no longer be bound by… anything. Not all in the crew agreed, but most did. And so it was.
It took some time to learn how to be proper pirates. They were far too merciful in those early days and it cost them, until they rediscovered the old pirate adage for themselves, that dead men tell no tales. Things were not always easy, but they got better. The crew became her family, for trust among their ranks was key to their survival. They grew their ranks, took a second ship for themselves, and then a third. Treyjen had named Karosh as captain of their second ship and no one had argued, but for their third ship he let the entire crew put it to a vote. Anyone that wished to captain their new ship put themselves forward, and Nalyra took the chance. She isn’t certain if she won on her own, or if her brother’s influence may have had anything to do with it, but the fact remained that she did win the most votes, and so the Bright Wing became hers.
She has since spent the last few turns weeding out her brother’s meddlesome crew from hers. Treyjen remains rather overprotective, in her opinion, seeing her still as that little girl that needs him to fight her battles for her. It’s beginning to get incredibly obnoxious, especially when he continues to act in ways that undermine her authority on her ship. So she seeks to surround herself with a crew that is loyal to her, rather than her brother, so that she can keep his meddling to a minimum and be the true captain she was voted to be, rather than a figurehead while her brother attempts to run everything for her.
