Raxalin
It had been long enough since they had seen injuries like R’get’s that she had forgotten how terribly she hated Thread. Oh sure, there was a terrible one every once in a while, but not enough to ground a rider, at least not recently enough. Mavros had done well as of late for the few wings that they had. She felt rather proud actually, even if she wasn’t the one up in the sky. With an injury like this she almost felt like it was her fault, like she could have done something, like they were losing against thread. She had to remind herself that she wasn’t the one up in the sky – but even that made her feel guiltier still, like she could have chosen to be a dragon candidate like her brother had recently done.
It had been many years since the very first fall, but moments like this always brought flashes of injuries from back then. He’ll be fine. R’get will recover. She kept repeating this to herself, because she really did think he would, because he had to, but also because her memories were telling her otherwise.
Despite what others were telling her of things she could do, she was convinced there was something more she could do. She wasn’t sure exactly what, but she supposed she’d find something useful in the scrolls in the harper collection. She hugged herself as she went, trying to think of anything besides R’get’s injuries before they got wrapped or imagining them even as the wrappings got replaced.
When she got to the more common area – Raxalin couldn’t really call it a library, not comparing it to Tidewalk Weyr’s collection – she went to the area that focused on herbs and skimmed over them. She wasn’t much of an avid reader, only when it came to her craft. She sighed and moved to a less known area until she found a scroll on what they knew about thread. Raxalin didn’t pick it up, just stared at the descriptive title, hugging herself as if it were comfort her. It wasn’t like the scroll would be filled with actual thread…
