NAME: Elghinn
RANK: Weyrharper (Master)
AGE: 40
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
APPEARANCE: Face Claim: Jack Black
Elghinn is, at first glance, a wildly eccentric man. His long, wild mane of black hair has just the faintest touch of encroaching silver along his temples and around his ears, giving him the appearance of having wings. At length, his hair clusters together in what almost appear to be feathers that sway in the air currents. Wrinkles adorn the corners of his hazel eyes, a good sign of a man prone to cheer and laughter, though his lean, six-five figure belies his love for both food and drink, and the crisp, clear, natural tenor ranges well into a sturdy bass for his singing voice.
Signature to his appearance is a long full-wrap cloak of black and white wherry pinion feathers and a garishly multicolored knitted hat that looks like it's seen far better days and is at this point, more patchwork than hat.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Elghinn doesn’t have an eating problem. He sees food, bemoans the lack of unique flavor or originality, and then promptly makes it disappear. Right down his gullet. He is a man of vice. Food, alcohol, women. At the best of times, he has only a single volume- loud, though never when he’s truly irate or angry. He can also be a somewhat conniving man and nosy, especially when he knows there’s something interesting going on or something he himself is simply not knowledgeable about and will use what cunning he has to get his way. Utter shame he couldn’t get the makings of the pulped-wood writing media though.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
It can certainly be said that Elghinn is an inventive man. Whether it’s new ideas for improvements to a process, to food, or to connecting with others, he always looks for a way to make things work better. He can, in his own way, also be charming. A love of jokes and his keen observational skills as a Harper make him aptly suited to either bring out the best in people- or to reveal them for their worst. While he’s not generally quick to anger, he’s not unreasonable when his fuse is lit and will typically vent his frustrations through music. Truly the hallmark of a good Harper is his meticulousness when it comes to notes. While it’s not truly an obsession or a compulsion, he does make it a habit of writing everything noteworthy down at his soonest available convenience.
FAMILY:
Elias- Father- deceased, old age, worked as a cook in life, street chef and kitchen
Sirah- Mother- deceased, old age, worked as a gardener/Farmcraft in life
Brothers and sisters- 10, ranging in ages from 20 to 40. Elghinn is the middle-child.
Children- 5. In order from youngest to oldest- Charyn (Daughter, 3), Morriga (Daughter, 4), Tepthis (Son, 5), Tykus (Son, 9), Maddi (Daughter, 14) Various mothers, as his spawn are Gather-get.
HISTORY:
Elghinn’s early life was rather simple as beginnings go. His mother, while a gardener, had done a little experimentation with the cross-breeding of edible plants. Her ‘claim to fame,’ as it were, are the chili peppers that Elghinn makes sure he’s able to cultivate wherever he wound up. His father instilled a love for the kitchens and the way different foods can be used to bring out new flavors. In life, his father was much in demand back in their native home of Southern Hold, and his mother cultivated much of what he cooked herself.
Up until he was thirteen and hit puberty (albeit early for most), he spent time with both parents learning their respective crafts before ‘discovered’ by the Gather Harpers at Southern Hold for the tenor he was developing. Within the Harper Halls, he learned a great deal ranging from stringed instruments, percussion, but it was his voice that received the most work.
Somewhat of a trouble-student, most notably for his terrible re-renditions of classic stories and songs that he’d repeatedly promised never to retell or sing, (spoiler alert: he does. As frequently as he could get away with,) it was eventually reconciled that while his re-renditioning wasn’t necessarily bad in its’ own right, they were aptly suited to Aleholds and kitchens.
His comedy wasn’t everything however. He knew and understood the importance of the originals and, whenever it was appropriate, stuck to them. In some cases, he demanded access to the kitchens so he could ‘taste the story.’ Such was much of his work as a Journeyman as well. Going from Hold to Hold, Weyr to Weyr, setting himself up with a portable kitchen that he’d use- admittedly, mostly to his own effect, to teach both young and old while giving them a literal taste of the story in the form of his street food.
At least, that’s the story so far. He’s only just beginning his Masters tenure with his dispatch to Mavros, having exhausted his wanderlust and desiring now to settle in for a long haul.
