NAME: F’ang/Florang (Fang, Flor-ing respectively)
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 19
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
DRAGON: Bronze Gaburuth
APPEARANCE:
While F’ang is a man of some height at an even six foot, he’s by no means a giant of a man. Rather thick in the body, it’s doubtful that more than a quarter of his build is fat given the corded muscle where the sheath of fat thins below the skin, putting his weight somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 and 250lbs. Light skinned and strong in the face owing to a clean-shaven face that highlights a strong jaw and a high brow. His narrowed nose and hard gray eyes combined with naturally thin lips give him a perpetually serious expression, only further reinforced with his deep barking baritone that carries impact when he’s shouting. As for his hair however, he has none; being one to suffer from early hair loss. As such, he keeps his head clean shaven, though he’d have a shock of fiery red hair if only it weren’t already falling out.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Self-Destructive Loyalty- There are times when ones sense of loyalty can be taken to a negative extreme. F’ang shows a level of devotion to his trusted companions that borders on the insane and has no qualms about making sacrifices to his own detriment to save those he considers to be in his inner circle.
Cold- Emotionally charged encounters render F’ang to be a cold and calculating man. Having grown up rough, he understands how high emotions can lead to bad decisions and he sees it as his duty to be the measure of cost versus benefit.
Aggressively Protective- This man treats his inner circle as a mythical dragon of old’s treasure hoard. What he considers His, he will defend with his life regardless the cost to his own pride. An unfortunate side effect of this is his mile-wide possessive streak.
No Pain, No Gain- A drawback of his sense of worth and judgement. On more than one occasion, he's worked himself clear into the Healers Hall when he's done poorly and given himself a punishment to encourage himself to work ever harder. Any job worth doing right, is worth doing twice with perfection. Few things that are easy are ever truly worth having.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: (at least 100 words)
Causal Devotion- Having grown up with next to nothing of his own amongst the communally informed Holdless, he takes matters of Cause to heart and is easily a sucker for a good old-fashioned bleeding-heart story.
Dirty Jobs- F’ang is no stranger at all to shoveling herdbeast shit to make a mark. If it means helping a friend, he’ll shovel herdbeast shit again to save them the unnecessary hassle. If dirty work is what it takes to make something happen, dirty work will be done.
Guarded- F’ang himself is a man of few words, often saying no more than is absolutely necessary unless someone is actively going out of their way to hold a conversation with him. Not one to particularly care for others opinions either, he’ll smile and nod, while simultaneously writing someone off for unwanted opinions without letting it impact his work.
Man of the Hour- While he’d normally say little when it comes to conversational topics, he’s not afraid in the slightest to speak his mind where it pertains to his duties. He sees himself as a leader where he tries to be exemplar amongst his peers and group does his level best to delegate taste fairly amongst group projects and put the metaphorical boot to ass when others aren’t carrying their weight.
Judgement- Growing up, Florang had all but drilled into himself that if he wanted something, he had to earn it. However, the same applies to others as well. To F'ang, at a personal level, beyond even the station others may hold, respect is a powerful commodity that must be earned in his eyes. While it's not a conscious thing that he judges others to be worthy of something or not, he does have a hierarchy of those whose orders he would follow to the letter, to the spirit, or disregard entirely. To take things further, that respect isn't earned and kept as a given. Like himself, he expects others to continue showing that they will do whatever's necessary and at times, show that they're willing to put others ahead of themselves for the good of Mavros.
FAMILY:
Holdless. Birth parents unknown.
Sarang: Sister, 21. Adopted out from the commune. Whereabouts unknown.
HISTORY:
Florang is a young man that would have come to Mavros Hold early, only coming to the attention of the Searchdragons of Mavros Weyr after having served as a runner at the age of thirteen. To others, Florang’s life amongst the Holdless would have been seen as a bad life. Florang himself has taken the experience as a series of… Unfortunate, but necessary life lessons. He learned that the best practice when something needs doing, whether the task was delegated specifically to you, or if you’re hearing about it in passing, is to simply do it yourself and move on to the next task.
Such would have been much of his formative and developmental Turns both among the Holdless and within Mavros proper. Rather than taking part in Turnover parties, he was a regular volunteer mucking out runnerbeast stables, helping with meal preparation in the weyr, anything he could do to busy himself for the next six years of his life, only himself choosing to be at the Sands when his overdeveloped sense of duty had been satisfied he'd worked hard enough to warrant a chance at Impression.
After impressing Gaburuth however, his personality shifted slightly. Whereas before he’d been wanting to make himself worthy of Impressing a dragon and lifting his station out from amongst the Holdless he’d seen himself all his life, he now finds himself fighting tooth and nail to be worthy of Gaburuth. The dragon Himself is a constant source of vulnerability to F’ang as well; a constant presence in his mind and ever privy to his most private of thoughts.
Where his childhood name had been Florang, he’d shortened it to F’ang after Impressing Gaburuth. If Gaburuth is to be his Flame, he would be Gaburuth’s Fang.
