NAME: Y'va (formerly Yvinka)
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 16 Turns
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Bisexual
DRAGON: Green Daphnerith
PETS: Blue Seaspitter Bubbles
APPEARANCE: Yvinka has reached her full height at 5’4”, and is rather irked that she hasn’t seemed to grow any more in the last turn, clearly taking after her mother’s smaller stature rather than getting any height from her father’s side of the family. She has grown into more of a womanly shape with soft curves making her appear perhaps a bit older than she really is. Her dark, near black hair generally falls freely and reaches to her mid back. Her eyes are a warm brown, sometimes appearing almost amber in the right light. She tends to prefer shirts and pants for everyday wear as they are easier to be active in but she does enjoy wearing skirts and the occasional dress for special occasions and showing off a more girly side, so long as it’s on her terms.
PERSONALITY FAULTS: Tactless, Immature, Irresponsible, Impulsive, Impatient, Sarcastic, Hedonistic, Loquacious, Flirtatious, Fickle
While normally friendly (sometimes a little too friendly), she does have a sarcastic streak and absolutely no filter, so she can sometimes come off as blunt or outright rude, or worse, cruel, because of her complete lack of tact. While she will feel bad about it if she hurts someone’s feelings, she doesn’t usually dwell on it for long after apologizing and generally doesn’t really understand why “I’m sorry” doesn’t just automatically fix the problem. It’s not like she meant to be mean. Yvinka lives to enjoy life, she lives on her whims and random impulses, and it can make her a bit fickle as she rarely sees anything through to an end result, getting bored somewhere in the middle and moving on to something new and far more interesting. Irresponsible and immature, she takes very little seriously and some might find her annoying or childish, particularly when it comes to some of her humor. She has no sense of personal space or boundaries, though she will respect them if outright told to back off, but anyone meeting her for the first time is bound to be a little uncomfortable with just how close she gets, and it is not outside the realm of possibilities that she will outright hug anyone she’s just meeting for the first time. Affectionate and flirtatious with just about everyone, it’s very hard to tell when she’s actually serious about pursuing someone and not just being her normal flirty self.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: Outgoing, Friendly, Witty, Loyal, Intelligent
When asked to describe Yvinka, most would simply say she’s… a lot. A definite extrovert, she thrives in social situations and absolutely hates being alone. She has no qualms about chatting up literally anyone about anything, but it’s getting her to shut up that’s the hard part. She does make for a very loyal friend and perhaps the only thing she takes seriously in life is being there in a friend’s time of need, no matter what the problem calls for, whether it’s a listening ear (friends will be amazed to find she CAN be quiet for lengths of time) or an extra set of fists in a fight. Most surprisingly, because of how she generally acts, she is actually quite an intelligent individual with a mind for numbers and strategy, she just doesn’t generally put those skills to productive use, preferring less… mature pursuits.

HISTORY:
Yvinka’s family life has never been ideal. Her father and mother have often been at odds throughout her life and she is used to their all too common arguments. It has always been clear there is little love between them, though she has at least seen them get along now and then. They came together as the result of an arrangement between their fathers and, being the dutiful children they were, did not protest the union. Though Yvinnia was a dutiful daughter, she felt no such obligation to her new husband and Jeylokar found that his new wife was far more willful than he preferred in women. It was never a recipe for a happy marriage, but both have also been far too stubborn to give up on the commitment they made to their fathers and to each other, especially after their first child was born.
Initially, the strained relationship between her parents and the arguments used to upset Yvinka, but she’s grown numb to it at this point in her life, usually just rolling her eyes and letting them have it while she goes somewhere else. When she was younger, she generally ran to one of her uncles to escape the conflict. Reyloran’s home became a safe haven, a place of love that perhaps kept her from becoming completely cynical about romantic relationships, for her uncle and his wife seemed entirely happy and in love, just like how love appeared in stories, or close enough anyway. She grew closer to her cousins than to her elder brother, who she could very much live without, thank you very much.
Along with her uncle Reyloran, she came to love her uncle Treyjen when he was around. Whenever she told him that her father had forbidden her from doing something because ‘girls can’t do that’ he would always laugh and promptly let her do it anyway because clearly, girls can do that. He was a beacon of freedom when her father tried to pin her down into some narrow view of what it meant to be female, and when even her mother encouraged her in subtle ways to go against her father’s wishes, it was all fair game. Eventually her father gave up trying to control her so rigidly, insisting that she was her mother’s monster and leaving her upbringing almost completely in Yvinnia’s hands. Wanting more for her daughter than to see her wed to someone of Jeylokar’s choosing, Yvinnia allowed her daughter to run ‘completely wild’ as her father likes to put it.
Under her mother’s tutelage, she was taught many things she would need to know to be a good trader, and once she started sailing she picked up on a lot of sailor’s skills as well, though her father forbade her to learn because sailing was a man’s business and no craft for a girl. Which only made her want to learn all the more. The vast majority of the crew on her father’s ship would abide by his wishes and would refuse to teach her, but that didn’t mean she didn’t watch and learn on her own whenever she got the chance.
It wasn’t long before she started sailing that her uncle Treyjen, along with her aunt Nalyra, stole one of the ships from their fleet. For what purpose she didn’t know, she was too young at the time to really understand and her father flatly refused to speak of his younger brother after the incident. Her mother had no more idea than she did about what had happened as Jeylokar didn’t inform him of any reasoning, if he even knew himself. The only answer she ever got from her father about the matter was that Treyjen had always been trouble and always would be before any further questioning was promptly shut down. She noticed that her father and grandfather’s relationship strained after that as well, and her mother told her that it was because Jeylokar was the one to suggest giving Treyjen the post of Captain for the Storm’s Eye, and Treylok blamed him in part for what had happened.
Turns went by and there was no sign of her uncle’s ship returning to them. And then she started hearing crew members talking about the supposed piracy the Storm’s Eye was said to partake in. Her mother initially dismissed her inquiries about that as rumor, and after some time ships stopped spreading word of the Storm’s Eye around the docks and it seemed maybe it hadn’t been true after all. At her young age, it just all sounded like a fantastic tale and she liked imagining her uncle as some daring pirate, though as she got older and really learned what piracy entailed, the thought soured some.
More turns passed and life went on, rather uneventfully. She enjoyed her family’s stops in Tillek, where she could spend time with her uncle Rey and her cousins, and she also enjoyed traveling about Pern and helping her mother and father in their trading ventures and meeting all sorts of different people. But recently her father has been talking about finding her a ‘decent match’ soon and she doesn’t like that talk at all. Though her mother has assured her she at least will be given more time to get to know any prospective future husbands than she had, which is also apparently why the talk of it has started so early despite her age, it is little consolation. So when she was out and about in Tidewalk Hold exploring and a greenrider appeared on Search, picking her out of the crowd that began to gather around the dragon, she leaped at the chance to escape before any plans for her future could be solidified.
She returned to her father’s ship to quickly gather what she could take with her, knowing her father was off doing some business somewhere. She wasn’t counting on her mother finding her before she left, however. But her mother had always been encouraging and she told the woman a dragon had Searched her and she was going. Yvinnia had a moment to take in the information before she pulled her daughter into a hug and told her to go. She didn’t ask which Weyr had Searched her and Yvinka didn’t tell her. Her father could hardly waste time looking for her if he didn’t even know where to start. Since her arrival at Mavros she has heard plenty of incredible tales about her new home and isn’t sure what to make about any of it, but it sure is exciting!
