Melana and Gold Sularenth
Mine. The voice that growled threw her thoughts was not at all threatening, not one bit. Melana might have been more worried if the Gold wasn’t being possessive. “Yes, Love. We know.” The Gold hissed, clearly wanting to make sure the point was clear before she moved, gently nosing one of the eggs again to settle it back into position. Mel had had to remind the big Gold she would be sharing the Sands – there had been a little complaining, but not as much as Mel had expected; and after the reminder, Sularenth had made an effort to keep her eggs all to one side of the Sands, leaving room for her sister’s clutch to come.
Mel looked over the clutch, frowning. There should have been more. That was not my fault. The Gold’s voice was defensive, and Melana instantly pulled her attention from the nearest eggs to the Gold’s spinning gaze now focused on her. ‘I didn’t say it was, Sularenth. I would never blame this on you.’ The Gold stared at her a moment or two more, and then returned to fussing over her small batch of eggs. Melana frowned, crossing her arms as she watched. ‘Are you sure you don’t want me to have them take the empty ones?’ I will take care of it. They are Mine. The possessive tone in the Gold’s mind-voice was enough to drive the point home, Melana lifting her hands up as a sign of surrender. ‘Alright, Alright. I was just making sure.’ She didn’t understand it, but it wasn’t worth fighting over. If they started to smell, then Mel would put her foot down.
For now, it wasn’t worth making Sularenth’s mood worse. She moved back to the blanket she’d tossed on the Sands, where she’d watched the whole thing play out from the midnight hours when her Gold had summoned her from her bed. She was tired, but still… she smiled, collecting the hide from its spot on her blanket and going over it again to make sure she had all the eggs listed out properly before she sealed it up.
Cloudy Egg, Split Egg
The Cloudy egg is a rather large egg, so named for the pale, cloudy markings covering its shell. Beside it, the much smaller Split Egg sits. The bottom half of the shell is dark, while the top half is pale.
Faces Egg, Watching Egg
Both these eggs have a slightly unsettling appearance. The Faces egg is average sized, with strangely placed darker spots on the shell that almost look like many little faces. The Watching Egg is smaller than its companion, and very pale, with a large, dark-colored spot making the egg look somewhat like a giant eye.
Snake Egg, Charmer Egg
These two smaller eggs sit together. The Snake egg has a strange dark marking that looks very much like a snake slithering over the shell's surface. It leans heavily toward the Charmer Egg.
Guard Egg, String Egg
One of the larger eggs in the clutch, the Guard Egg leans protectively over the String Egg, as though guarding it from something. The String Egg is one of the smaller eggs in the clutch and has darker, thin stripes running vertically over its surface, giving it the look of strings on an instrument.
Wave Egg, Shiny Egg, Fat Egg
The Shiny Egg has a sheen to it that makes it rather pretty. It is large, but very obviously not a gold egg. Sitting to the right is the Fat Egg, while to the left, the Wave Egg sits. The Fat Egg is large and squat, of a size with the Shiny Egg, while the Wave Egg is noticeably smaller than either and has pale wavy markings over the shell.
Winged Egg, Splash Egg
These eggs are both average in size. The Winged Egg has curious pale markings on either side of the shell that look vaguely like wings. The Splash Egg is paler, with a splash of darker color mottling the bottom of the shell.
DUD1, DUD2
These eggs lean against each other, away from the rest of the clutch. Sularenth has already pronounced that they will not hatch but refuses to allow anyone to remove them.
