NAME: K'ton
RANK: Weyrlingmaster/Wingrider of the Breeze Wing
AGE: 59 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
DRAGON: Bronze Sorth
APPEARANCE: K'ton has a rather severe look to him and cuts a rather imposing figure. He is tall at 6'1”, with short, receding light brown hair, fading into gray. His eyes are blue, but a small segment of his left iris is brown, giving him segmental heterochromia. In his youth at Mirran, this was a boon to him, as it was viewed as something of a good omen, a sign of a special or important future in the highly superstitious Weyrhold, which seemed to only be proven by his Impression to a bronze.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
K'ton has always been ambitious, but for purely selfish reasons. A product of Mirran, he is quite entitled as a bronzerider, and incredibly colorist and traditional. Even women on blues are met with open distaste, as they are still a rarity in the rigid society of Mirran where he spent his formative turns. He strongly believes women should ride only green and gold, and has an incredibly low opinion of blue and green riders as a whole. He has little sense of humor unless it is at someone else's expense and seems to find enjoyment in rubbing people the wrong way. He is known to be bad-tempered and tends to take everything in life too seriously. He is not a patient man, he will rarely repeat himself, and he expects immediate obedience from those under his charge, and if he does not get it you can expect a thorough dressing down and possibly several lectures over the next several days depending on the offense, as K'ton rarely lets any offense go and is likely to throw it back in your face at any opportunity.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Despite his generally poor disposition, K'ton is a dutiful rider now that Thread has returned. He was once among the doubters, but when dragons are being devoured by Thread all around you, there's no longer room for doubt. He takes his responsibilities seriously and takes pride in what he does. After all, not everyone has the stomach to be weyrlingmaster, and his success rates are very good, taking minimal losses during training and losing few new graduates in their first Falls. In Threadfall, he is more than able to put aside any grudges or dislike and will watch his wingmates' backs no matter how he feels about them. With his charges he is the definition of 'tough love'. Their success is his success, so he is always present to personally instruct weyrlings on the biggest milestones of their training, never allowing an assistant to take his place, and if anyone is struggling he ensures they have extra training in whatever area they are lacking, whether they like it or not.
FAMILY: K'nik of bronze Poyith – son, at Tidewalk
Toniya of gold Tanzith – daughter, at Mirran
HISTORY: K'ton was born at Mirran from a lineage of bronzeriders, so it was no surprise when he Impressed his bronze Sorth. He was transferred with the goldrider Kalena to Tidewalk, since Sorth had caught Vicanth on her maiden flight and there was some hope he would catch her again at Tidewalk... and install two Mirrish riders as weyrleaders there. A Tidewalk bronze caught her instead, much to K'ton's frustration. While he was more of a mind with C'dor and Kalena on the matter of Thread, he still followed Oria and M'ton to Mavros, seeing it as an opportunity for Weyrleadership, as only two other bronzeriders were going. He was again disappointed as M'ton's bronze caught Asurath, but after the bronze pair perished in Threadfall he attempted to edge his way in. However, Oria backed B'rax instead. Having taken part in the Threadstorm, he remained at Mavros rather than returning to Tidewalk, recognizing that the Weyr had failed in their duty and would not be looked upon favorably, seeing more opportunity at the struggling Weyrhold than in returning to a disgraced Weyr.
That didn't mean he was entirely content, however, and repeated arguments with both Oria and B'rax had Oria installing him as Weyrlingmaster because, as she said “if he wanted to lead so badly, let him lead weyrlings since he wanted to act like one”. He knew he would never be named even a Wingsecond while he held the position of Weyrlingmaster, and also that if he quit or failed at the post, he would likewise never raise his station. So he threw himself into it, to spite Oria and to some day regain his standing in the eyes of Mavros leadership. However, he might have done a bit too well, because everyone seems rather content to leave him where he is... and to be honest he doesn't mind, not that he'd admit it. Putting weyrlings through their paces can be decent entertainment, after all.
