Ataria open up your eyes - see the world from where I stand general info
personality
Ataria is an old soul, gentler possibly than most, and blessed with an uncanny wit and wisdom beyond her years. Even from her earliest moments, her precocious intelligence will challenge her company to be more and do more, to question their own motivations and reach for things they have only dreamt of. Honest, empathetic, and home to a true heart of gold, she encompasses even the worst of situations with a sense of compassion and warmth. The youngling is an amazing listener, with an almost bottomless well of patience and a natural sympathy for even the smallest concern. She levies compliments without a thought, offers hugs and snuggles without a care, and gives up her time and resources to be the rock needed to weather a storm. She is generous and altruistic, giving without expecting anything in return and loving and caring unconditionally, no matter what. If she offers you a gift, it is out of pure kindness, nothing more, and nothing less. Ataria believes in the noblest of things, in ideals centered on the whole of Mavros’ happiness; there is no need for bribery or intimidation, only the unity of honor and understanding. Ataria perceives the world in wide-eyed, rapt anticipation of the many good things she will experience in life, almost eternally seeing things in a manner akin to a kid in a candy store. However, unlike other fawns her age, bursting with endless questions and possessing little self-control, Aillil listens rather than pesters, learning primarily through observation. She has a keen intellect that grasps concepts quickly and builds upon prior knowledge effortlessly, as well as an innate talent for comprehending information based on context. Of course, this isn’t to say she won’t ask some questions when she is truly confused or at a loss, but one may be surprised at just how much she picks up on her own. In the same vein, the questions she does ask may quickly put others out of their expertise. A very deep thinker, she will voice concerns about the origins of dragons, inquire how the different weyrs and holds came to be, and ponder if the meaning of life might be different for folk of different backgrounds, resulting in a series of deep, unanswerable questions coming from a creature not hardly a few years old. Her knowledgeable sources may be hard-pressed to satisfy these first queries, and it is likely her questions will only get deeper and more thoughtful as she ages. On the other hand, she will likely prove to be easier to handle in the early years of her life than others of her age group; quietly sitting through her lessons, happily doing what her mother or father has asked of her, behaving in public places, and going to bed when asked... though she may not fall asleep on cue. Proving to be something of a scholar when new ideas are posed to her, she will tend to recall abstract concepts far more easily than other, more tangible things. For example, it’s likely she’ll have forgotten where her next lesson is to be held, or where she had left that trinket she had earlier, but she’ll remember every song and story of a dragonrider’s duty she heard two weeks ago, or every stereotypical tendency of a traditional Lord or Lady Holder that she learned last month. She’ll almost certainly continue to be a little absent-minded when it comes to the more practical matters of day-to-day life as she grows; thankfully, she has family and friends to keep her firmly grounded, anchors in the here and now when her distractedness gets the better of her. Home to a naturally wild sense of humor, small, often amusing comments will come easily to her as she learns more of the world’s concepts and better understands her own inadequacies, her wit flickering between smart, dry, and just plain silly at a moment’s notice. It won’t take long for her to regularly begin using self-depreciating humor, or to find hilarity in the activities of others, asiding to her company some random related comment that results in their quiet amusement. At her very core Ataria is an emotional child, and will retain some childlike aspects of herself well into her adulthood. She is prone to crying openly at sentimental or heart-stirring parts of stories, growing suddenly depressed about being addressed in harder tones of voice, or exhibiting sudden mood swings as her deep thinking mind trends from something joyful to something gloomy. The girl will be terribly sheepish and apologetic about these and similar less-than elegant moments, if not even a little frustrated with herself for not being able to rein in her sensitive personality. If she manages to bungle something up, she’ll be a bit put-out for a while -- however, she has a streak of determination that won’t let her simply give up, a bit of stubbornness that pushes her through the difficult parts of life. Eventually, as she gains physical and mental dexterity, she will make these mistakes less and less, and may even come to relish physical and mental activities as sources of strength. Her siblings, friends, and sometimes even her parents will be encouraged to scramble up and down weyr caverns, or to participate in a battle of wits with her. A healthy body, she may come to say, promotes a healthy mind, and vice versa. And, should the worst happen, and she actually manages to overdo it and strain an ankle or break something, or upset someone with an out of place comment, she will likely take any injury or restriction in stride. Ataria is not one to complain, no matter how dire or unpleasant the penalties, feeling that it is unnecessary; she must face the consequences of her actions, after all. Indeed, she may prove surprisingly philosophical, using the resulting time to herself to focus on other things, always willing to persevere. Ataria’s motivations -- no, her entire purpose -- are thus; whether the world is fair or not, whether the things she does are silly or arrogant, whether or not the sun rises with clear skies or storm-bearing clouds -- regardless of it all, she will reason that if you do not believe you can, how can you make it be? As she grows, she will develop a serious facet to her personality, one the regards duty and justice very highly, and as she learns more of those concepts, mercy and honor will also become definitively important to her. Eventually, those things -- justice, mercy, duty, and honor -- will form an ever burning flame that drives her to live for a purpose, a dream to become what the Weyr needs. She will be the rock, eternal, unshakeable support when things are rough, the confidante and advisor to those in need of an ear. She will be the fresh set of eyes called upon in times of uncertainty, seeing situations from a new perspective, and the formidable mind able to be applied to any problem and produce surprising and inventive solutions. And so, though it may be no more than a sweet reverie amidst the bedlam of actuality, Ataria encourages her peers (and even her elders) to think outside of the proverbial box, to explore, learn and find their own personal brand of happiness; for above all, she believes everyone should be privy to their own joy, and if that can be accomplished, then the Weyr will benefit as a whole. In the end, Ataria sees the world as it really is (oftentimes more clearly than others) and she holds no illusions about her place in the world; she is but a weyrbrat, and though she is the youngest daughter of one of the weyrhold’s most prominent bronzeriders, though her mother continues to try and instill in her a love of healercraft, her future is open for her to choose. Perhaps, if she believes enough and does her best to make it be, the lovely dream of a thriving weyrhold will come true. Who knows what will happen? All that she can say for sure is as long as her heart still beats, her friends and family will never lack for support or encouragement, an ally or a friend, through whatever path lies ahead. appearance Ataria is an adorable little thing with long, honey brown hair and bright blue-green eyes. Her lips are already showing signs of being fully, pouty things, and her face is growing into an oval sort of shape, graced with round, warm cheeks and a button nose. In build the child is a willowy whipcord of flexible muscle and bone, characteristic of her age group. Her legs are long, her arms slender, and her body slim as can be. She has little trouble twisting herself into strange shapes or climbing trees, full of a child's energy and light, lean muscle. She stands at an average three and a half foot, though by the time her growth spurt comes around, she'll probably be rather tall for a woman. Given time to grow, she'll probably shape up to be something of a classic young lady. She also has a notable scar across her left arm from a grazing threadscore obtained during the Threadstorm that decimated Mavros' original settlers. biography
Ataria was born a threefold lucky child. She entered life during an Interval, a prosperous time for Hold and Weyr alike, where Thread threatened no one and stress was at an all-time low. Despite being the child of a dragonrider, she wasn't thrust into the creche the moment she was weaned, having been blessed with a non-riding parent (her mother) and a true nuclear family in her elder siblings. And even then, her father, despite being a bronzerider, spent every moment of his free time with his children and weyrmate, Those early turns were marked by the sort of sunlit picnics by the lake and tag through the grass that most weyrbrats wished they had, jealous of the holderchildren for their parents attentions. These were the brightest moments in her memory, though they continue to fade into the background as she grows older. Sometimes Ataria closes her eyes and can remember those warm, light-drenched days, before everything... changed. The child was yet young when it began; the signs of the Red Star's passing, the cries against complacency, the exodus of the barely 30 turn old Tidewalk Weyr. She remembers those days before their leave with wry amusement. The babe's infectious excitement at the prospect of a grand trip with her family and friends, her curiosity at their destination, her determination to help everyone prepare... they are all still fresh in her mind, though she was just barely the tender age of three. But it is easily eclipsed by her memories of the trek to their resting place - and the Threadstorm she lived through. The screams... oh the screams. Ataria will never be able to forget the screams as dragonriders fell out of the sky or disappeared between to never return... the exposed people below the colors above escaping running hither and thither as if it might prevent the silvery menace's touch. Some were lucky enough to escape with their lives, while others... were not so lucky. She'll never forget chasing after her mother, brother, and elder sister, crying and tripping over unsteady toddler's feet to receive the prize of a lancing pain, like fire burning her flesh, shooting through her left arm... or the white that engulfed her gaze as she herself screamed. She still has night terrors of that time. Thankfully, scars heal and memories fade... but she'll never forget the pain, the loss, the suffering of the broken band of once sunny faces, and the Weyr they founded upon the bodies of the fallen - her new home, Mavros Weyrhold. Ataria was born a threefold lucky child - she lives a fourfold lucky child, a survivor of a threadscore, a precocious, happy weyrbrat left unfettered to grow and learn as she might to come home and tell her mother and older siblings of her teachings that day. Her family believes after what she has been through, at her day for choosing craft or candidacy, her path is set to become a healer, like her sister, like her mother... something safe, where she can make use of her bright mind and dogged determination...
