Novarel
A'zael
Mizao
The blue started out calm enough, making his way through the boys as he had the girls. The green followed after her brother, taking more time with each individual than he was. She could feel it, something, someone. She paused by Shintagoi but quickly skittered away, knocking Novarel off his feet and tripping over the boy in her hurry to get away. WhatWHAT-OW! Novarel had been watching the Giant Egg as it started to rock, and then become distracted by the Cross Egg breaking open to reveal yet another blue. He hadn't even realized the green had come over to the boys at all. And now it was ON him, careless hatchling claws catching in his back as she tumbled over him. Instinct had him covering his head even as his back stung, and he was quite certain he was bleeding. Owowow.
Another of the males stumbled forward, catching the green before she could do any more damage, and she creeled in apology. A hand took his arm and he lifted his head, “Hey... let me help you up. You all right? Arkyloth says she's sorry, she didn't mean to.” He took the older boy's offered hand and winced as he was pulled to his feet, but tried to play it off, “Hahah! No problem! I'm fiiii-ow.” He clutched at his back with one hand and felt something wet. Yeah, he was bleeding. His hand came away red and Killos sucked in a breath, “Faranth, sorry. She really is sorry.” Novarel laughed again, waving his bloodied hand like it wasn't bloody at all. A healer found their way over to him, ushering him off the sands, “No, wait, what if my dragon comes looking for me?” The healer made a noise, “We can't just let you bleed out on the sands or let the wounds get infected, we'll get you patched up and maybe back out if it isn't too bad.” With a groan, he was half dragged away, and the green nudged her new rider, insisting on being fed. K'los led the green away with a last concerned look at Novarel.
A'zael
A'zael rubbed a hand over his face as the boy was led off the sands. Wonderful, one less candidate standing. Can something just go right? He could hardly even bring himself to be happy for Killos. His younger brother had been standing for quite a while. His gaze flicked to the blue that was still searching, was growing more frantic, more careless in his steps, starting to bump into the boys around him as none of them seemed right. He gave a final piteous creel and was gone, and A'zael cursed loudly. B'rax shot him a look, his voice lowered, “Weyrleader....” A'zael waved his hand at him, his tone bitter, “I know, I know.” The man was addressing him by title on purpose. He didn't need to be reminded. Two Betweens. Sharditall. He felt sick, wanting nothing more than to return to his weyr before something else could go wrong, but he couldn't. All he could do was sit here and endure.
Another had blue had hatched while he'd been caught up in the accidental mauling and the blue's Between, and was now making his way toward the boys. He leaned forward slightly, willing the blue to just Impress. How could none of the candidates down there be better than death? For Faranth's sake. The Pointed Egg broke open, a dull green spilling onto the sands, as the blue, thankfully Impressed. Menias led his blue off the sands as the green stumbled toward the girls. The Giant Egg was beginning to crack, but the Banded Egg split open first, another bright orange bronze stepping onto the sands. The top half of his great head and the backsides of his wings were a darker, rusty red color. And he was absolutely massive.
Mizao
Seeing Joia crying was a bit of a shock. It was hard to say what emotion they welled from. Disappointment that she hadn't been chosen or happiness that she'd been remembered? Maybe both? Mothering instincts kicking in a bit, Mizao reached over to squeeze Joia's hand lightly. She must have had quite the pleasant experience with the green's egg to be so attached. She watched the green going through the boys. Something appeared to startle it and it knocked into a boy and then. Oh. Faranth. There was blood. Mizao paled slightly, but another of the males came forward and helped the boy up, and then a healer took him away. But it seemed Joia's green had Impressed. And then. Another one gone. Another one. What? Just how common an occurrence was this? She cast a look at Aleni, her voice slightly shrill, “How many hatchlings normally disappear like that?”
