(Played by Hannah Marks)
NAME: Karo
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 17
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
DRAGON: Brown Gargerrith
PETS: --
APPEARANCE:
Karo is a shortie, standing at a final height of 5'3", in contrast to her very-tall shipmates. She tries to seem as tall as she possibly can, with a fierce posture that can rival even some of the most confident bronzeriders. Thin and lithe, she can squeeze into small spaces and maneuver with ease. Her arms are muscular enough to suggest an active lifestyle, though her fair skin tone doesn't suggest a life spent on a boat deck in the sun. Indeed, she burns easily, and must cover herself in order to avoid damaging her skin in the oceanic sun. Karo does not lack in feminine curve, but she does lack some in bust; indeed, this tends to prove more helpful than harmful most times.
Her face is very angular and her chin pointed, with moderate cheekbones. Her eyebrows are neither thick nor thin, but they are very sharp and expressive. She has a flat, rounded nose that fits proportionately onto her face, and her cheeks are a little rosy. Her slightly wavy hair is usually kept on the longer side, and it tends to cascade down from her head, giving her a slightly wild appearance. Karo eyes are wide-set and are a hazel color.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Karo constantly looks for the approval of others, so she'll attempt to show off or make a snarky comment to make others laugh. If she receives a bad reaction, she'll feel bad about it for a while, but then she'll just pick right back up again. She gives off a strong air of not caring, and some may feel like she does whatever she pleases. Those people would be somewhat right. Karo is very loud, and has a bad habit of not keeping her mouth shut. When she feels like she should comment, she will. She has a strong problem with authority, though she doesn't necessarily want to become the authority. She just wants to roam free and do what she wants.
Sardonic and cynical, she tends to believe that there are few good people in the world- and she's certainly not one of them. Yes, she's riddled with insecurities and constantly berates herself on her performance. She won't let this show, of course. Karo is a prideful creature, and she tends to exhibit behaviors that one would consider more typical in a man. Her pride doesn't so much show in her boasting about herself, but rather her habit of blocking her emotions from the public eye. No, she will absolutely not cry in front of others, that would be absurd. This habit of hers stems from growing up around all men for her entire life, among other behaviors of hers. Though, she has no grasp of societal rules of the mainland and can often be seen as outlandish because of this.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Karo has a dark and witty sense of humor that few may grasp- or a lot, it depends on the crowd. She likes to be around people, and lives on the energy. She's smarter than some may think, and tends to have a habit of surprising those that doubt her. She has a useful sense of inginuity for crunching situations, and can think on her feet. Nobody could be able to guess that she doesn't like herself, because she holds herself with such confidence that it could be assumed she has too much.
Karo is friendly for the most part, even if she doesn't like most people. Extroverted to a fault, she doesn't have much of a filter and can say anything about anyone. While this may suggest that she is bad at keeping secrets, it also means it's hard to take advantage of her. Indeed, it would take a lot of work for someone to weasel their way into Karo's trust and control her, so most people don't bother. She is undoubtly loyal to her few close friends and will protect them with everything she has.

HISTORY:
The Bronzer didn't start out as a pirate ship, but Captain Kalahan was not an honest fisherman. While docked at port, he would often send a party of his men to pickpocket and steal some extra supplies at night, but his men were rugged people designed more for hard labor than sneaking around. It was then that he hatched a plan. He would steal a babe, one that he could raise to do the sneaking around thing instead of his valuable men. While it wasn't a baby that he ended up snatching, he did pick up a three-Turn old girl from a single baker. He would never find out her origins, and neither would the girl, but she had been the result of the baker enjoying herself a little too much at a Gather. The little girl would never find out about her bronzerider father, but it wasn't like it mattered. At dawn, The Bronzer left port, the baker crying for her daughter long after she was gone.
The girl, Karolinna, would grow up alongside her 'brother' Kalzen, who was the actual son of Kalahan. The two hated each other from the start. They would often fight, both physically and with typical child insults. Kalahan encouraged the fighting, saying it would 'build character'. Kalzen almost always won, and when he didn't he would lie and claim that he was the victor. His father always believed him, and it left Karolinne growing up angry. She found some sort of comfort in the crewmen on the ship. She often stared while they hauled up nets of fish, and a few of them even showed her some techniques and how to tie some knots. At five Turns, one fisherman in particular took a shine to Karonlinna, and began to teach her some of the knowledge that Fishcrafters learn in their apprentice days. The man, Quilken, thought he saw some sort of special talent in her, and Karolinna began to see him as someone she could trust while her brother beat her up and her father ignored it.
Karolinna was trained to do what she was stolen for; thievery. She was the perfect size and speed to run from pursuers and avoid getting caught. She was too small to haul useful boxes, but she could grab things like marks and a snack for the captain. She was agile and could swipe marks from unsuspecting pockets; though most people were too alert for her to go undetected, but she passed off as a simple thief. And most times, they never caught up to her. When they did, she wasn't necessarily harmed due to being a small child. But it would make her father angry, as it would mark places that they couldn't steal from again. She would usually try to make up for it by trying to steal extra marks from trading caravans, but it never seemed to make her father glad. In fact, he never seemed to be happy for her. She tried so hard to please him, but he wouldn't bat an eye. Only his Craft and his son made him happy, nothing else. At least, that's what it seemed like to her as Karolinna grew.
When Karolinna was twelve Turns, the other Weyrs pulled back support from Mavros. Since he was beholden to Mavros, it made Kalahan obviously quite upset. It made it much more difficult to sell fish, and that's when something in him turned. Stretched thin out of desperation and already with a corrupt background, Captain Kalahan turned to piracy. It was something he prepared his crew for for a long time. The Bronzer went from a successful fishing ship to a formidable pirate ship, invading other ships and pillaging shoreline cotholds. Karolinna was allowed to participate in the action, and she found a strange thrill from it. She had a feeling it was wrong, but the hidebound Weyrs refused help and Mavros had to make a living somehow. If they couldn't sell some of their fish and send the rest of it to Mavros, all their fish would be sent to Mavros. Karolinna finally felt like she could please her father, especially when she was able to start helping out with the crew. He might've been pleased, but he didn't let it show.
She spent the next five-ish Turns in the work of piracy, but when they were docked at Mavros, Kalahan had an assignment for her. He wanted her to go to the Weyrhold and find a clutch of firelizard eggs to smuggle back to the ship. He felt that he could train a fair of them to help work with him in the pirating act. It was the first time Karolinna had been off the ship not in the act of thievery, and she couldn't help but be excited. All she had to do was be back in time for the boat to leave; after all, Captain Kalahan had a schedule. So, Karolinna headed into the Weyrhold...and was immediately stopped by a blue dragon. She'd never seen a dragon up close before, and apparently it was the day for new experiences. The blue spoke to her...and told her something extraordinary. She was fit to ride a-dragonback! She was offered the choice to accept Search. It was also the first time Karolinna had the ability to make a choice for herself, something she wasn't told to do by her father. While she loved the sea, the thought of being on an almighty beast was even harder to resist. Not caring if her father came back for her -which he didn't, strange enough- she said yes to Candidacy.
Aerroth's second Hatching would prove to be hectic, and a terrible first-time experience for someone like Karolinna.A bronze, brown and blue went between, without their riders. Karolinna didn't quite know where they went; see, on the mainland she did not know many things, and even after a month or two she was still very confused. A larger-than-normal egg would hatch to be two browns, instead of the oversized brown that many boys hoped for, and when the browns did not choose any of the boys it was feared they would be lost too. However, the audience was in for a chock when Karolinna and another girl, Mizao, became the second and third female brownriders on Pern. Gargerrith called her Karo, and so that's the name she decided to go by from now on- Karo. Karo of brown Gargerrith. It was a whole new world to explore, and Karo was willing to dive right in.
