Appearance: A large blue, Irisirith will be 55 feet at full growth. His expansive wings will lend him remarkable endurance for a blue, though they will make sharp turns and great speeds more difficult. His hide is mainly an indigo blue, hinting into purple, which darkens slightly on his legs. A dark navy blue covers the edges of his wings in a thick band, extending down from his wings and coloring his entire tail. Several spots of varying sizes in a pale periwinkle can be found over his body and a stripe of the same color extends along the sides of his neck, over his wingsails, and along the backsides of his legs.
Personality: Pessimistic, Sarcastic, Cautious, Obedient
Irisirith has a highly pessimistic outlook on… well… everything. He is convinced that the worst will come his way regardless of the situation, whether that be the simple fact that his meal for the day will be tough and dry or that he and his rider will die a horrible death come Threadfall. He can find the negatives in even the best of situations and it makes him quite the worrywort. Unfortunately reassurance from his rider rarely helps make him feel any better about anything, and until his expectations for the worst are proven wrong, he will continue his negative line of thinking. You may call it pessimistic but Irisirith calls it pragmatic. A deeply thoughtful dragon, his pessimism has him considering all options and outcomes and preparing for all of the worst situations he can possibly think of, which in turn can often help him avoid those outcomes, proving his negative outlook wrong more often than not. Perhaps if he had a better memory he would recall all the times he was proven wrong, all the times things went right when he was convinced they would not, but alas, he has but a dragon’s memory, and so he will always fall back into worrying about the next thing that could possibly take a turn for the worse.
His negative outlook makes him incredibly cautious, nervous to try anything new or take even one step outside of his comfort zone, which is very small indeed. This is a dragon that appreciates rules, hierarchy, schedules, and consistency, and absolutely does not like change. Once he settles into a routine, he will have a habit of becoming quite upset if that routine is interrupted. Of course with draconic memory, if a new routine is required, he will eventually settle into it and forget the old one, but his rider can expect plenty of complaints and heightened negativity until he does. Fortunately he is an obedient sort, and though change and trying new things will have him hesitating and resisting, he will not dig his claws in and stubbornly refuse if his rider presses him forward. If his rider insists, he will reluctantly do as he’s told no matter how much he hates it, but you can bet you will hear him complain the entire time, and if anything at all goes wrong he WILL say I told you so.
He has an incredibly dry and dark sense of humor and a sarcastic streak a mile wide. However with his negative nature, it can be difficult to tell whether he is joking or just being particularly morbid in his pessimism and most of his jokes are likely to make others uncomfortable or simply go right over their heads. It’s likely this poor blue will become a bit of a pariah among his own kind, rarely understood by anyone but perhaps his rider, which will leave him feeling a bit lonely, and maybe a little clingy where his rider is concerned. Should he find a draconic friend that isn’t put off by his nature, or even better, understands his jokes, he may also become a big clingy with them, which unfortunately may have the consequence of chasing them away instead. But he will be a steadfast friend, even willing to push himself out of his comfort zone at times if those he cares deeply about are truly in need. He will return understanding with intense loyalty.
With a certainty that he will only be misunderstood or rejected, Irisirith will never venture to speak with humans besides his rider unless circumstances are dire. He is unlikely to chase greens much, if at all, because what is the point really? He’ll only lose, and there’s nothing anyone can say to convince him otherwise. The only exception would be if he formed a close bond with a green, if she showed him patience and understanding and he counted her as a friend. He would give his all in trying to win her, but losing would be rather devastating for him and feel like more of a rejection than it really was.
