HISTORY: (at least 150 words)
A’ster was born in a tiny cothold in the shadow of the redwood forests. They were herders and farmers, a largely self-sufficient dwelling. They had been people of the forest since before Mavros took claim of the territory, and they will be here after it is gone. No one really cares which Weyr is dominant, the riders were looked at with a mix of awe and suspicion, uncaring gods who could bring protection or demand tithes. The cothold had struggled with the return of Thread, many of he crops destroyed and animals lost on he chaos, but the holders perservered. Into this hold a boy named Alister was born a little prematurely on a stormy night.
He grew up surrounded by his siblings and the other families. The most exciting thing that happened was the occasional Gathers to meet others from nearby cotholds. His mother’s family had been part of the hold for generations, founding members, and he was raised as much by grandparents, aunts and uncles as his own parents. His father had married in and was from the next neighboing holding, which was still h alf a days ride away. It was a childhood that knew being hungry and cold, but also thrived on love, family, and friends.
The cothold was all he knew but from childhood everyone said Alister was a little off. He was a middle child, viewed with less responsibility than the older siblings but not doted on like the favorite youngest sister. He slipped through the cracks, mostly watching and observing life, often pestering his silings to help them with things and ask questions. And ask many questions he did…strange things about how the world worked and what he imagined was outside the hold. His mother called him a dreamer, his father called him pie-eyed. As he grew up Alister was happy but conscious of some itch that made him wonder about other things.
Born in a remote herding village in Mavros territory. Pretty average upbringing. Very poor, big family. He is a middle child.
Perhaps because of the lack of attention he always wanted to be well liked and he wasn’t a troublemaker, the opposite he was a bit of a teacher’s pet whenever the Harper dropped by and he did all of his chores without complaint. His older siblings often teased him and talked him into doing their chores too. He became known as the cothold’s errand boy.
As his siblings grew up they started to get married and the weddings allowed the family to expand a little and for Alister to see other cotholds. He hadn’t met any girls he was interested in yet but he thought of marrying someone from far away, exploring the world. Of course to him that meant “the other side of the forest” and not aother continent.
