Tak'ril - Bronze Agureyth
Tak’ril was looking to the sky, the stars were bright out by the beach, where there was no torchlight blocking the path of the star’s light. He had his hands tucked under his head as a pillow, supporting himself. Agureyth was curled around him, close enough to be emitting enough heat to keep Tak’ril warm in the chilled night.Alyx
He picked out his favorite constellations and his dragon hummed. These were the nights. Spent out in the quiet, enjoying the view of the stars. They were not nearly as bright as when he was out at sea on a boat, every inch of sky stars only, but they were the best they could find on Mavros. They had been having classes on star navigation, and Tak’ril had picked up on it like a natural. It have given him a strong sense of nostalgia of being on the sea, enjoying the rolling of the waves beneath the boat and the strong salt breeze, no land in sight in any direction for the eye to see. The man understood he would never be on a boat again, at least not long term or going farther then a dragonslength away from Agureyth to fish. His dragon had been concerned when these thoughts had first surfaced, and had tried to convince him that he could, he would be just fine… But that wasn’t how it worked, now was it? He wasn’t sure he could part with Agureyth for that long. His voice of conscious.
A shooting star shot by him, and for a moment he held his breath. It had been over a turn since he had arrived on Mavros and been searched. Almost a full turn with Agureyth now. Yet his grief seemed fresh at times. He thought of Taselin as the star vanished from sight, he laying on the beach, just like this, on one side of her, and his littler brother on the other side of her. She would make up stories of the stars, how they used to be one large, brilliant dragon, who after his rider had passed had broken into a million stars in his grief. He remembered one specific night in general when a shooting star had fallen, and she had gasped pointing at it excitedly.
“That’s Faranth, right there! Did you see her?” They had scoffed at her, and she had pressed. “No, really it is. Every now and then Faranth’s soul will fly through the air granting wishes. Quick, make a wish!” They had all closed their eyes and made wishes. Tak’ril had wished for some silly thing or other, he was sure. When he had pressed for Tasy’s wish, she had smiled hesitantly. ‘I want to be a dragonrider someday.’ He hadn’t been surprised. His sister’s love of them had always been bright and fantastical.
If Faranth’s soul was a star, as his sister believed, then he hoped she had turned into one as well and was flying in the sky just as she had always hoped. It wasn’t how she had wanted to fly, but she would be shining brilliantly as he had always viewed her. Agureyth crooned in his mind, following the young man’s train of thought.
I could see Taselin in the sky. We will have to fly with her, later tonight.
Tak’ril smiled, a little half sad smile at his dragon’s comfort. I would like that...
Which star do you think she is?
He considered the stars and pointed to one of the brighter ones near the horizon, almost touching the horizon. She’s just taken off.
There is only up from there.
