Ny'x - Blue Nimocith; Riasu - Candidate
The smell of lavender hit her first. Ny’x blinked, because she hadn’t worked with any today, she didn’t think. She was looking around her, when a tall, dark skinned woman walked in the door, quite obviously the source of the smell. She was taller then Ny’x, who didn’t count herself short, and probably taller than the average man, and she was utterly beautiful. It wasn’t just her looks, but the way she held herself, and her smile that had Ny’x come to the conclusion. She felt drab, pail, and insignificant in comparison.
You are beautiful. Who is this?
Instead of anxiety, there was actual consideration and curiosity in his voice. He was in the other room and could sense her new companion almost immediately. Ny’x blinked. Strange. I’m not sure yet.
“Hello, I am Ny’x of Blue Nimocith, how can I help you?” Ny’x asked the woman curiously. The dark skinned woman gave a friendly smile and sat down on one of the patient chairs.
“I am Riasu, nice to meet you. Hmm, I may have strained my ankle, and was wondering if you could wrap it for me.” Ny’x blinked. She hadn’t noticed a limp. She did notice the overwhelming smell of lavender on the woman though.
“Sure, let me grab a few things.” She grabbed a wrap and a pin, and then knelt in front of the woman, who proffered her ankle. Ny’x placed her things aside, and rolled the pant leg up to get a better visual. It didn’t look strained or sprained. Then again, it was harder to see new bruising on some darker skinned individuals. Still, she could tell by her thin elegant ankle that it definitely wasn’t swollen.
“It looks pretty good. When did the pain start?”
“Well, I went for a run a bit earlier, and noticed it around then.”
Ny’x nodded absently, continuing to examine it, using her thumbs to test toe strength and ankle mobility. She woman didn’t wince once. Very strange. If her ankle didn’t hurt, why the shells was she here?
I want to meet her. Ny’x blinked. Then blinked again. She had frozen in her examination, completely shocked at his words. Since when did he want to meet anyone? What? I want to meet her, mine. Please. Ny’x raised her eyebrows first, then looked up at the woman who was glancing toward the door of the adjourning dragon infirmary, where Nimo waited for his rider’s shift to end.
Riasu cleared her throat, looking back to Ny’x. “Is there something wrong?”
Ny’x gave Riasu an unsure smile, but shook her head. “Oh, nothing… No not at all. This ankle doesn’t look too bad, but I’ll wrap it, and you try to keep it easy on it. I’m sure in a few days, it’ll be better than new.” Ny’x went about wrapping it, starting at the foot and moving the bandage from hand to hand as she wrapped the ankle thoroughly.
“You are quite good at that; you have the healer’s touch.” The woman complimented her, and Ny’x smiled.
“That’s my parents in me. They taught me just about everything I know.”
“Hmmm, parents teachings do seem to be more effective, don’t they?”
“Yes, indeed. What did your parents teach you?”
“Just about everything I know about dragons.” Ny’x raised her eyebrows. Dragonriders? Was this woman a dragonrider herself? Probably not as she didn’t introduce herself as anyone’s rider. Ny’x felt a tinge of almost jealousy at the thought of being raised in the weyr, brought up with the ways the brunette had had to painstakingly learn. And still learn. She fantasized what life would have been like in a weyr, growing up with dragons, watching races, and the greatest beasts on Pern training to fight Thread. She romanticized what kind of relationships she could have had, how breathtaking and exciting. She blinked away the visual as easily as it had come, and turned back to the weyrbred woman.
“Your parents were weyrfolk then? Are you from Mavros?”
The taller woman shook her head at the last question. “Both my father and mother were dragonriders, but not here. I’m from Ierne Island Weyr.”
“So you were Searched and brought here?” She realized she was drilling the woman and sat back, finished with the ankle. “Forgive me. I’m not around people nearly enough.”
I am sorry mine. She smiled inwardly, sending calming thoughts to her anxious boy. Her dragon had been listening intently to them, and it peaked her interest even more in this woman.
Why is she so interesting.
I feel her. More.
More than Ceela? She brought to mind the young woman they had Searched, reminding the dragon of his feelings.
More. Much more. The bluerider raised her eyebrows, surprised. Even more interesting. Ceela was a larger then life personality, which made Ny'x think that Ceela should have been easier to feel. Suddenly the woman was looking uncomfortable.
More as in a better choice for a candidate then Ceela?
No. More as in different.
Different? What is different?
I don't know mine.
“I can hardly blame you, being tucked back here so very often.”
Ny’x blinked, trying to remember what they were talking about. When she pinpointed where they had left off, she nodded, and said ironically. “Actually, this is when I see the most people. My Nimo is very shy. He’s… Well he’s sensitive. So are you a candidate here?” Hopping right back into her questions.
“Ahh, I see. Um, well, I am. But I wasn’t specifically searched for this Weyr. I just came here with my brother, Lo’qui, and convinced your weyrleader that if I was good enough to stand at Ierne, I was good enough for Mavros.”
Pride nicked at her. This was Ny’x’s home. Just because it wasn’t the most prestigious weyr didn’t mean it wasn’t better then other weyrs. They had a lot going for them. She didn’t have anything to say to that, so she brushed off her hands.
“Well, I think I’m done. Is there anything else I can help you with?” She was surprised when the tall woman stood and tested her weight on the foot.
“Great, this helps, thank you. I was also wondering what herbs you would recommend for headaches?”
Headaches? So was that why the woman smelled so strongly of lavender? The headache must be pretty bad if she had to use that much lavender. But why would she be running with a headache? Seemed a little silly.
“Well, what have you used?”
“Mainly just meadowsweet tea, lemongrass tea, and lavender.”
“I would try a mix of willow, wintergreen, and sage tea. It can work wonders.” Ny’x went through the herbs and pulled out the mixture she had worked to have prepared just for this moment. “If this doesn’t help, just let me know. Topical peppermint and crystalized sweetroot have also been known to help, and I can give you those ingredients as needed.”
“Perfect,” The woman smiled a large, almost relieved smile, “thank you, Ny’x. I’ll keep you informed.” She turned as if to leave, and Nimo pressed.
“Wait, um. Would you like to meet Nimocith?”
The woman turned her torso, to look at Ny’x, her eyebrows up. “Um, well I would hate to bother him, especially if he's so shy."
Ny'x shook her head, she didn't understand it either. "I think he would enjoy meeting you." The woman seemed to hesitate, then shrug her shoulders. "Sure, I would love to.” Did she sound nervous? She had been born to dragonriders, what did she have to fear from one shy blue? Ny’x motioned to the adjourning door, when Nimo was laying down, and then led the way. Riasu followed slowly behind. Ny’x opened the door to find her dragon had sat up from his lounge and was staring intently at the door.
Well, don’t scare her now.
I won’t. There was a strange certainty behind his voice, and his eyes lacked the normal yellow and lavender colored tints that seemed to be constant in his eyes when others were present. How very very strange. What was it about this woman?
Ny’x bowed toward the blue. “Nimocith, well met.”
The blue didn’t directly respond to the woman, instead directing toward his rider.
I think she is special. I like her.
That hit her like a ton of stones. Whoever this woman was, she was like a remedy herself, and Ny’x would have to befriend her. She needed friends her dragon didn’t mind being close too. Though even with how positive her dragon was at this moment, he probably still wouldn’t appreciate seeking out anyone.
“Err, he likes you.” Ny’x watched Riasu study the small blue dragon, and then look over at her.
“Well, he is a handsome boy. It almost looks like his soul is shining out of his hide.”
Ny’x blinked. She had never looked at the hide that way. He did have a beautiful lighter sheen that seemed to glow. But she had never been able to put to words what it looked like.
“Thank you, he is.”
“It was a pleasure to meet you Nimocith. Ny’x. Thank you again, I should be going. I have a lesson later I don’t want to miss.” She smiled brightly at them, and Ny’x studied her face. “Yeah, of course.” Ny’x muttered distractedly, and she watched the woman depart. She looked to her blue after she had gone. Waiting to see if he had anything else to say, but he had laid back down, and was preparing to nap again, as if nothing had interrupted him.
Confused, the brunette moved back into the infirmary to make her hands busy. Maybe she would crush more willow, peppermint, and sage to make more of the tea she had just given away. Maybe she would continue to wonder what had overcome her dragon to actually want to meet someone.
