You do not need to do this, Vorscuth said, watching the hatchling fire lizard zip about the weyr as if she owned it. You can find another, someone more easily approachable.
I do, C”rys replied evenly, ignoring the young lizard just as keenly. I don’t have much in the way of acquaintances, even with weyrling training keeping us as peers. I hate saying it, but outside of Mollin, he’s the closest thing I have to an actual friendship here.
The dragon couldn’t argue that; the green’s personality kept them apart more than anything, and C’rys herself never felt quite on the same level as her classmates, with her own abilities always making her feel as if she were eavesdropping during any lesson. She could control to it a point, but some of the draconic voices would always be louder than others, and having that window into another pair’s conversations never made her feel as if she were playing fair. It was easier to keep distance.
And that had done her nothing for her long-term goals. Had she even attempted to form bonds during their time in the past… But no, she could learn from mistakes, but not change them. Better to move forward.
Which meant making amends with S’goi. He hadn’t liked seeing so many green and blue riders in attendance at the last lesson, and had liked her sardonic words less. She had even missed the obvious connection he’d seemed to have with some of their peers, in her narrow-sighted focus on the lecture. He might not be well-liked among the majority, but even S’goi had managed to get a foothold into the minds of a few of their fellows.
C’rys sighed, leaving the last of a mug of klah for Kro to lap at as she wanted. Vorscuth rumbled disapproval from her couch, the dragon appreciating neither her rider’s decision to attempt to retain an acquaintance, or the decision to bring a pest into their lives.
Kro hissed at the larger green in between flicks of caffeine.
Don’t let her get into any of Ts’lar’s things, Vorscuth.
If you truly did not want that, you should not have accepted her egg.

She doubted he would appreciate a green rider at his doorstep, but it couldn’t be avoided.
Ramacuth, is S’goi available? I’d like to ask him to take a walk with me. But don't trouble yourself if he's not in the mood; I don't want to make you into some silly message runner.
