The day after the Hatching
Weyrling Barracks
D'rew
D'rew had been sure to show the new weyrlings how to properly bathe and oil their new lifemates at about midday after their hatching, but otherwise only made sure to supervise as they spent time getting used to their new bond, assuring they had meat available to them when the hatchlings required it, voracious as newly hatched dragons always were. There was a small celebration that night, no great feast by any means, but some of the more musically inclined had offered their skills for a little music and dancing, and the support staff that had come with had managed to come up with a couple more options for the meal that night, using up much of the last of the food supplies they had brought back with them in the process. The unfortunate few who had not Impressed had moved to the support staff quarters; they'd be spending the rest of their time helping out wherever they were needed until they all returned to the present. D'rew couldn't help but feel bad for them, coming on this trip back in time with nothing to show for it when they returned, but it was always going to be the case, with the need for more candidates than eggs on the sands to prevent more hatchling betweens.
But today was a new day, and that meant a start to proper lessons now that the weyrlings had gotten a chance for a night's rest. How restful of a night they had had was a different question. He’d gotten Sabanth to call them all together in the main cavern of what would be the Beast Hold. Buckets of meat had again been prepared for them, though it would be the last time. They would be cutting their own meat later. D’rew stood and watched them all arrive, hide and pen in his hand, gesturing them to take up the meat buckets and get settled. Taking a head count and finding they had all arrived, he spoke, “Well, you all already know me, and for all the working together you all did as candidates during our time here so far, I’m sure you know each other as well, but you all do have a new partner to add to the equation, and many of you have new names as well. So we’ll start this morning with introductions. You may feed your lifemates while we go around the group. Introduce yourself, even if your name hasn’t changed, and introduce your dragon. You may share something else about yourself if you so desire, but I’ll leave that option to you.”
He glanced down at the hide in his hands, “I’ll be recording your names, and those of your lifemates, for records purposes. After we’ve done introductions and your dragons are properly fed, you’ll be bathing and oiling them again. After that, I imagine they will all sleep, and after you’ve seen them to their wallows you will return here and begin cutting your own meat for them. The support staff will not be cutting meat for you any longer after today. Some of you got a brief lesson on this already, when you were candidates back in the present, but it will be new for some of you as well. But we’ll worry about that when we get to it. Before we begin, I also have a few ground rules to set with you all. From now until your dragons learn to between in their 11th month of life, alcohol and sex will be prohibited for you. The alcohol will not be much of a temptation, at least, as we did not bring any back with us. Sex can have a terrible effect on your dragon before they are old enough to handle the intense feelings and emotions that come with the act. It can and has caused a young dragon to between forever. If you choose to break this rule, you do so at the risk of your dragon’s life.”
He passed a serious look over them all, then nodded, “Now then. For example’s sake. I’m D’rew of Blue Sabanth. I’ll be your weyrlingmaster and if you have any questions or concerns about your dragon or the new life ahead of you, feel free to come see me whenever you like. My proverbial door is always open to you.” He gestured to one of the weyrlings then, “Your turn.”
OOC: Whoever wants to go first can be the person D'rew pointed at. Feel free to have some chatter going on too, between introductions and what not. This is a laidback lesson for you to be able to play your newly bonded pairs in a group setting~
