OOC: For those of you who don't know what I'm referring to here with Karredy's rising from the dead, let me explain. Karredy feel ill and into a sort of coma-state that was so bad it left healers pronouncing her dead, when she wasn't. She was buried alive and after being buried reawakened. The thread where she was buried alive is currently ongoing, but she should be dug out soon. The Touching occurs a few days after she was found to still be alive. Your candidates should probably have her on their minds, at least as a passing thought, as 'rising from the dead' is more than a little strange XD. Moving on, you may post your candidate going among the eggs and doing whatever. Karredy may or may not appear at some point. Your candidate is not required to post, but it is encouraged.
The Bold and the Beautiful
These eggs are the golden treasures of the clutch, very clearly containing queen dragons within. They sit side by side, leaning lightly against each other in a most sisterly fashion, as if sharing some secret between them, though upon closer inspection it seems the Beautiful egg is supporting the Bold egg, helping to hold it upright. The Bold egg is larger and darker than her sister, a fiery yellow-orange with a deep golden sheen. The Beautiful egg is paler and smaller, almost dainty in comparison to her sister. While the Bold egg seems to demand your attention with a ferocity one would never expect from an egg, the Beautiful egg beckons you quietly and perhaps… politely?
The Lightning and the Flash
The Lightning and Flash eggs sit together as the closest to their Gold sisters. The Lightning egg is noticeably larger and bears two brown smudges upon its surface that look vaguely like bolts of lightning, giving it its name. The Flash egg, though smaller, seems to have a more commanding presence about it and seems to soak up any and all attention it receives. It bears a light smudge on it's upper half reminiscent of a sunburst which gives it its name.
The Rose, the Daisy, and the Leaf
These three eggs are a curiosity indeed. Arranged together they could be given the nickname 'The Flower Patch'. Upon each shell is a vague smudge which gives the egg its name. Upon the largest egg, dubbed the Rose egg, is a pinkish smudge reminiscent of a rose. Upon the smallest and plumpest of the three is a bright smudge that would look to anyone like the daisy that gives this egg its name; the Daisy egg. The middle-sized egg has a pale green smudge that could be made out in the shape of a leaf, and so this egg has been named the Leaf egg. While the Daisy egg and the Leaf egg seem rather contented and quiet, the Rose egg seems to give off bursts of energy and curiosity to everyone that comes near.
The Silver
This egg is quite different from its siblings, much more grey rather than the usual tan. The slight sheen it has seems to give it the look of silver, which gives it its name. While silver is not worth as much as gold, this egg seems to think itself just as important as its golden sisters, or at least that's the feeling one gets when near this egg. It has a proud air about it to rival that of your typical Gold or Bronze. Size wise, it is slightly larger than average, but not spectacularly so.
The Lethargic
The Lethargic egg is decently sized, one of the larger eggs in the clutch, though it seems a bit smaller than it really is due to the fact that it is laying on its side. It gets its name from the distinctive sleepy, uncaring feeling those that approach seem to feel emanating from it in waves, as if this egg would be content to remain where it is for all its days and is in no real hurry to hatch, as well as the fact that it appears to be laying down. It lays alone, a fair distance from any of its brethren.
The Dark and the Speckled
These two eggs are vastly different sizes. Save the Gold eggs, the Dark egg is one of the largest in the clutch while the Speckled egg is most definitely the smallest. Other than being quite large, the most remarkable thing about the Dark egg is that it is definitely the darkest in the clutch. The Speckled egg has speckles all over its entire shell and is rather cute for an egg. Though they sit close to each other they don’t put off the same illusion of interacting like their golden sisters.
The Pretty, the Average, and the Ugly
These eggs are almost picture perfect examples of how dragon eggs vary in appearance. Well all of them have the same basic tannish color to them with no distinguishing markings like many of their siblings, they are each very different.
The Pretty egg is almost completely round with only the slightest hint of the normal elliptical egg shape all of its siblings clearly have. It also seems to have a slight shine to it that none of the others, save the Golds, can compete with. Those who would touch the Pretty egg will receive a subtle warmth of kindness in return.
The Average egg is just that, average. There is nothing at all remarkable about this egg, but in a clutch full of particularly remarkable eggs, perhaps being unremarkable is remarkable in itself. It looks just as most Pernese picture dragon eggs to look. The Average egg is particularly quiet and does not seem to give off any sort of emotional vibe, like many its its siblings do.
The Ugly egg is particularly strange looking egg. It is covered in lumps and bumps with not a smooth spot upon its surface. Despite its rather unpleasing shell, this egg seems to call out to any and all that come close with mixed feelings of happiness for the company and impatience, as if it cannot wait to hatch and meet everyone for real.
The Prankster
At first glance this egg looks fairly average, not much special about it. Upon closer inspection... this egg appears to be cracked! After running a hand over the offending area, however, one will feel that the surface is as smooth as ever and what were thought to be cracks are actually just thin dark lines, markings on the shell. After your moment of panic over the possibility that this egg was cracked, it will almost seem as if it is laughing at you for your mistake, as if it planned the whole thing for its own amusement.
The Fog and the Snow
While these eggs sit together the feelings one gets from each are vastly different. The Fog egg's shell is covered in lighter patches, giving it the foggy look that became its name, and gives off a warm feelings of love to anyone who touches it. It is smaller than the Snow egg but is fairly average in size in comparison with the rest of the clutch. The Snow egg is so named for its incredibly pale color. It almost appears white beside most of its siblings, though tan can be clearly seen on its more shadowed areas. Despite its 'snowy' appearance, this eggs feelings of impatience and excitement are fiery and fierce.
The Loner
This plump egg sits on its own, quite far away from any of its siblings. It is actually quite large, though its plumpness lends it some illusion there. As it sits alone and so far away, it is hard to tell exactly how big it is in comparison with the other eggs in the clutch. Those who approach will notice a subtle feeling of need coming from the egg, though what it might want for is a mystery.
The Tarnished
The Tarnished egg is probably the largest egg in the clutch, save the Bold egg. It appears to be somewhat plump and has a slight gold tinge to it that the other non-Gold eggs lack. However, its most interesting feature is that of the large mossy green splotch that covers nearly a third of its surface, as if it is tarnishing. It sits alone and is probably farthest from the Golds compared to any of its siblings.
A’zael sat with B’rax and Zenelle amongst the stands, sweating from the combined heat of the sands and balmy early summer day. Just inside the cavern, Fath was curled a decent distance from the eggs and Zalmaranth. While she might tolerate him ogling their golden eggs for a short period of time each day, due to Fath’s constant complimenting, she made sure to keep him at a good distance even then. Fath didn’t seem to mind too much, quite happy to be as close to those shiny shells as she would allow. A’zael didn’t really understand why he was so enamored with them… they were just eggs. And while the importance of the two Gold eggs was layered somewhere within Fath’s mind, he just didn’t see it as most, both dragon and human, did. Fath rarely saw anything as anyone else did. There was also a vague possessive feeling within him, he knew they were his, in a way, and a certain amount of pride came with that feeling though he still seemed… childish in his thinking about it. As if he didn’t particularly realize they were his children, that he was a father.
The thoughts that touched his mind when Fath was allowed to view his golden daughters were quite familiar to A’zael now. Shiny. Pretty. Mine. It was mostly amusing, a little bit sweet, and perhaps just a touch pathetic that his most prominent thoughts on his daughters were ‘shiny’ and ‘pretty’. A’zael honestly wasn’t sure what to make of Fath’s fascination with the two Golds, but then again A’zael had a certain fascination for them as well. One Gold was rare enough but TWO? He looked over at Zalmaranth, watching him, B’rax, and Zenelle with red-tinged eyes. Just outside the cavern were B’rax’s dragon, the Bronze Gamath, and Zenelle’s little Green Verdath. Today was to be the egg touching and he wanted to make sure nothing went wrong. Karredy had come back from the dead, or so it seemed. It was all very hard to take in, actually and A’zael tried not to think on it too much. She was currently recovering in the infirmary from her… ordeal. A’zael would have liked for her to be here but he wasn’t sure if she would be strong enough before the eggs hatched to be present for a Touching. The healers had said they would get her to the hatching cave if at all possible today, but as of yet she had not appeared.
So he had brought B’rax and his Bronze, in the hopes that Fath and Gamath might be able to restrain Zalmaranth in case of an emergency. He had suggested having Talera and her Gold present as well, but B’rax and Zenelle had both cautioned against it; having another Gold near her first clutch at this point might just set Zal off and be counterproductive. Zenelle had said that calling for Aerroth and Talera, if it came to that, should do well enough and A’zael had been inclined to agree and had alerted the Goldrider that her dragon might be needed at some point today and to be ready. It wasn’t exactly an ideal situation, but it was what it was. At a nod from him, Zenelle had Verdath notify Nesporth that the candidates should be brought into the cavern. It was rather annoying that the hatching cavern was not accessible by foot and the candidates had to be ferried up on dragonback in small groups, which B’rax and Zenelle helped with.
A’zael took it upon himself to act in Karredy’s place in welcoming the candidates… though honestly he was pretty sure a few of them might be older than himself and something struck him as strange about that. A Weyrleader was supposed to be old…er than he was, it seemed to him. At 21 turns and only four and a half months a full rider he didn’t feel at all like he had even an ounce of the experience one should have as a Weyrleader. He was pretty good at hiding these doubts about himself however, and only ever tended to let the Council know of his insecurities. They kept them to themselves, thank Faranth, though it wasn’t exactly all for his sake. It was to keep morale from falling any lower, really, though things were at least looking up now that Zalmaranth wasn’t facing imminent death with her eggs hatching. The Weyr did not need to know of their leader’s… incompetence, for lack of a batter word. And to be honest it was true. He was trying and learning, but if the Council wasn’t there, rallied around him and supporting him in everything, he was sure Mavros would have fallen apart by now.
“Heya, S’bol!” he waved with as much cheer as he could muster. It was altogether a happy-ish sort of occasion, a precursor to the hatching that would soon follow. And Karredy’s return to the living was also something to be happy about, even if he didn’t entirely understand it all. The Candidate Master ushered the candidates in and waved back at him, a bit unsure. On the one hand, A’zael had been a candidate under S’bol, on the other he was now Weyrleader. S’bol was having a difficult time reconciling the old Azaelos with the new A’zael.
“Erm, remember, everyone… be respectful to Zalmaranth and no rough housing around the eggs. Zalmaranth is agitated enough as it is without any threat to the eggs…,” his voice trailed off briefly, thinking on the whole ‘Karredy coming back to life’ thing. It had been frightening at the time and now it was just… well… he didn’t know what to think at all. Some of the candidates had even asked him about it and he hadn’t known at all what to say other than to direct them to a healer who might know something, which he was shortly thereafter unsure he should have done. The healers had enough going on at the moment without candidates pestering them with questions. He sighed and looked back at the waiting faces, “Oh! Mm… touch the eggs as you like. If anyone calls for you to get off the sands, do it quickly please.” He didn’t want to frighten them, but without Karredy present they wouldn’t know immediately if she was too upset for the touching to continue. He hoped the girl would be strong enough to attend… and he really had to stop thinking of Karredy as just a girl, she was after all his Weyrwoman now.
A’zael nodded at S’bol’s words, “Don’t be too nervous, B’rax, Zenelle, and I will be keeping an eye on Zalmaranth. We’ll be ready if she becomes agitated, it’ll be all right.” His tone honestly was reassuring as he waved them forward. In all, 19 eggs awaited them on the sands, two of them Golds, set side by side at the very center of the clutch, the 17 others arranged about them at varying intervals.
