DRAGON NAME: Nimiath
RIDER: Kenessia
WING RANK: Searchrider, Gale Wing
AGE IN TURNS: 21 Months
CLUTCH MOTHER: Prith
*APPEARANCE: Nimiath is a shade smaller than some Greens, but a shade larger than others. Her horns are slightly bulged, hinting at a strong telepathic 'sixth sense' that makes her accurately useful when on a Search. With her small size, she is ridiculously fast on land, and nigh unmatchable in the air. Her head is long and wedge shaped, and her eyes are wide and almost always blue in happiness. Neck is long and serpentine, allowing for her to look all around when needed. Her neck, stomach, and underside of her tail are marked with a darker green splotchy blaze, and the tip of her nose is the same green color. Her legs are long and lanky, even as an adult, though she is hardly clumsy. She currently has no scars from either fighting or Threadfall.
ABILITIES
AGILITY: 8
SPEED: 8
ENDURANCE: 2
*PERSONALITY: Calm, Strong-Willed, Aware
Nimiath has a strong telepathic ability: she senses, and if she does not take conscious care to block them out, feels the rough emotional states of dragons within close physical proximity, without having to read body language or observe the color of their eyes. Sometimes, if she focuses, she can identify telepathically-attuned humans around her as well. This heightened awareness of others' dragons' feelings is a kind of sixth sense for her - one she cannot shut off or ignore.
It's not wholly unusual for greens and blues to demonstrate unusual sensitivity: they are the most common Searchers, after all. But the telepathic gift manifests itself in unpredictable ways - and sometimes, when it is as strong in a dragon as it is in Nimiath, it can lead to the the dragon becoming reactive and high strung - easily upset by others, confused as to which feelings are their own, and (worst, in a Wingleaders' mind) distractable during Threadfall when nearby wingfellows are injured. Highly sensitive greens can become a liability which Wingleaders dislike having to account for, and it is the difficulty of managing them in Threadfall situations which has probably helped give rise to the general stereotype of greens being high-strung and temperamental.
However, in Nimiath, sensitivity does not have to translate to being foolish, reactive, or high strung. As a green, being particularly susceptible to the emotional impositions of higher colors, she’ll have even more to weather than a sensitive blue or brown - but she is also much tougher and more resourceful mentally than her gangly hatchling build might lead one to believe. In order to survive mentally, and not get swept away by others’ extremes, she will need to use all of her quiet determination to maintain a healthy, rational distance from the sea of feelings around her. Sometimes this may even extend to feelings which which belong to her rider.
If her rider is upset, Nimiath will be a listening ear – and a reasonable, soothing one at that. But her inability – or her very conscious reluctance - to let herself become truly upset, at least under everyday circumstances, over someone else’s suffering, may also be frustrating if a rider is seeking commiseration, not only carefully thought-out suggestions about how to deal with something that is upsetting them.
Nimiath acts with conscious care at almost all times. Nevertheless, her fall at the hatching may not end up being the last she takes unintentionally: this is a dragon who may have some trouble learning to coordinate herself physically, but who will understand the need to do so and devote herself to the effort with the same dedication and conscientiousness she’ll apply to the rest of her pursuits. Her long limbs may give her a bit of a gawky, coltish look throughout adolescence, but they have the potential to truly come into their own once she reaches her full growth: her large headknobs, on the other hand, characteristic of dragons with strong telepathic ability, will always remain a bit over-sized in proportion to the rest of her.
In combat, Nimiath may find herself dangerously distracted if a nearby wingfellow goes down, since their pain has the potential to overwhelm her. She will also never be comfortable in an infirmary: the distraught projections of the injured will simply be deafening to her. But if she can work with her rider, learn to act instinctively in combat and focus on what matters most in the instant - fighting Thread and keeping Kenessia safe – she may very well be able to fly without incident.
