He is hardly ever clean shaven, but never lets it get long enough where it itches. PERSONALITY FAULTS: Ambitious, stunted feelings, blunt/honest, harsh
Both a strength and a fault, Zylorin is terribly ambitious and will do anything to get what he wants. It does drive him to certain heights, but at the cost of his moral compass and friendships. He has a vision of greatness for himself, but he doesn’t know what it will look like. It’s this mystery that frustrates and terrifies him – the worst thing that could happen to him is to be insignificant.
He has never understood women and doesn’t really care to. He does find certain women beautiful, but finds them more of a distraction to his goals in life. So far he has done well to keep them out of his life (minus a few flings at the beastcraft hall in his youth). He does have feelings, but doesn’t really know how to express them. When it’s love, he just kind of ignores it. Anger – buries it for later or uses it as fuel, rather than reacting. In this way he is rather stoic and treats his feelings in a logical manner.
He is blunt in his speaking and about the things that he wants. He doesn’t beat around the bush and hates small talk. It makes friendship difficult- but a rare person that will endure him (or help him further his goals). He sees friendship as a means to an end, but he has created connections that are not as logical- but denies them.
There are things that he hides, but they are for specific reasons and have to do with his dreams. Otherwise he is brutally honest. It does help with communication, but mostly it just brings trouble in all sorts of directions. He enjoys when people are honest with him.

He has a very logical brain that allows him to visualize things, as they should be. This coupled with his artistic talent lets him create diagrams and such that are very accurate. Then it easily follows that he is somewhat of a perfectionist – which has made teaching others difficult, since he has a hard time watching others do half the job that he could do. He hardly ever uses someone when he can do the job himself. His perfectionism does allow him to be one of the best at what he does.
He craves to know how things work. He loves taking apart mechanisms and putting them back together. Often he doesn’t even have to take them apart – being able to understand by watching how things work. He likes to create things too – which are not practical to replicate for all of Pern with the menace of thread that just returned recently.
While he enjoys the complexity of machinery and the animal body, he also enjoys the simplicity of the beauty of life. He would never express it, but he enjoys the quiet sunrise and wakes up early to enjoy it and the silence before the weyr wakes up.

HISTORY:
Zylorin was born to a simple beastcraft family. Both his father and mother work in the beastcraft, but they enjoyed their small family and life, so they didn’t aspire to much else – at least not in Zylorin’s opinion. Lilih is a cousin of the Lady Relwisha of Tidewalk Hold, and Zylorin holds it against her for marrying his father- a simple caretaker of beasts.
As a boy he dreamt of being more than a beastcrafter like his dad. He dreamt of many things – of marrying a noblewoman, since his muddied blood would never make him a Lord Holder. He dreamt of being a dragonrider - on a large bronze that would fly a Queen. He wanted to do and be someone special, someone that people recognized and respected. He saw that his honest hard working father had earned a lot of respect in the beastcraft field – but did nothing with it.
He was also a peculiar boy, quick to learn everything put before him. He didn’t do very well with reading and learned best with his hands and numbers/math. Zylorin would dissect small creatures that he trapped, not particularly happy about killing the helpless things – but he wanted to know how things worked. The pictures and diagrams in his books wasn’t enough, they didn’t seem real. With a book flopped open to a diagram he would try and figure out the different parts of animals.
However he went too far one day in his young teens when he wanted to match the diagrams with the actual animal in the book - a cow. He had done it at night, and when his father woke to the dead cow and his son covered in blood – his father was of course furious. He wanted to send him off to the Harper Hall – because of his talents; Zylorin also has ‘artistic talent’ – not in any abstract way, or creative – but the ability to draw things as they are. He also drew diagrams of creations and inventions he wanted to create, but was always kept busy enough to not explore in that direction. As much as he wanted to get away from his family, he didn’t want to copy the scores of other artists and old archives. Not knowing what else to do with him, he sent him to Keroon – to the Beastcraft Hall. It still wasn’t ideal, but then at least he could learn from the greats and make a name for himself – literally actually. When he went to the Hall he changed him name, the records might still have Kilosh and the teachers tried to call him by his born name, but he’d only answer to Zylorin.
Zylorin got to be at one dragon hatching in his life – it took place at Tidewalk Weyr. He happened to be there as a young journeyman, working with the livestock there for the dragons. It was there he learned that one had to be ‘searched’ to be a dragon candidate – yet there had been an impression with a boy from the audience. ‘The dragons choose’ – he was told. He remembered an old dream of his to be a dragon rider and immediately went and found those who ‘found’ dragon candidates and asked if he could be searched. One of them even laughed at his forwardness – but no, his dragon said he was not dragon candidate material. This made Zylorin furious. He blamed his father’s blood and from then on speaks as if his family was dead.
At some point he returned home, but did not live with his family. He returned his own man and tried to make his mark - but it seemed slow going in such a developed area. No one would listen to him and his new ideas. When word came that a group was heading out to Mavros, Zylorin quickly signed up to go with.
At Mavros it was a lot easier for him to make a name for himself. Livestock was in great need for the dragons. He didn’t really care about the drama of Mavros, not unless it affected him directly – which it often didn’t. Though – the state of Mavros wasn’t to his liking. He grew up around pigs, which Mavros didn’t and still doesn’t have (to his disdain). The small Weyr needed to focus their efforts on growing their herds for the growing number of dragons – which suddenly multiplied suddenly when the dragons came back from their timing adventure. It was irritating that they hadn’t been warned of the sudden boom of almost full grown dragons (that ate almost more since they were still growing).
He has only recently in the past two turns made the title of Master Beastcrafter. He wasn’t too excited about the idea of teaching, but he saw it as the next step of being ‘someone special’ and someone recognized. He might not be known on all Pern, but he could at least make his mark on Mavros – or start there. So far he has enjoyed Mavros, but has seen it as a stepping stool to his next step in life.
However, when Zylorin hears about the gold wher coming to Mavros, and how whers are different (better in fact – because of the way candidates are chosen) Zylorin will put forth his name to the main beastcraft master as consideration as a candidate for an egg. While a bronze wher would not get him the same respect as a bronze dragon – having a wher is significantly more than being just part of the beastcraft.
