E'san and Brown Norioth
Joia and White Tellamuth
‘I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it!’ Norioth dropped down between a pair of his classmates, jaws open, and burned a clump of rope that had slipped by. ‘I thought we were talking about letting ropes get through?’ Norioth snorted, pulling up to rise back to join their Wing. I thought about it, but we get points if we burn more and don’t get hit, right? And I want to beat that bully. The Brown soared under Muse’s green, then back around to flame at another bit of thread.
Now HOW can you possibly say you haven’t thought about it? E’san groaned, shifting his grip as Norioth continued to fight the falling ‘thread’ the other riders dropped down on them. ‘I just haven’t, okay? I spend most of my time keeping you away from them. Why would I want to dwell on them when I might have a moment’s peace?’ Oh E’san… come on, they are worth dwelling on. How can you not want to try your luck? ‘Left.’ Norioth swung his head around, charring the rope without pausing. Ceela is pretty, and not on a dragon yet. Muze is sweet on you, she’s got to be! ‘She is not. Right.’
Of course, she is! She’s always looking at you when you aren’t looking at her. If you took the chance to talk to her, or notice – The Brown swung around, burning the rope, then cursing a little. ‘What?’ I got hit in the wing. E’san shifted his seat, leaning back to look for the telltale white smear. ‘Oh, I see it. Wingtip.’ What is that, one point? ‘Think so.’ So not bad, I can live with that. ‘Not if it was real Thread.’ If it was real Thread, I promise I would take it more seriously. ‘I should hope so.’ The ropes had begun to thin, and those above them had started to rev off and land.
Do you think it’s over? ‘Looks like it.’ Nice. Now… about Muze- ‘Can we please not do this right now?’ But you always say that, E’san. Honestly, what am I going to do with you? ‘Land so I can clean that stuff off you before someone sees it?’ Norioth was already dropping, shadowing the rest of their wing as they landed. Not like it would show as much on me. It blends, so I still look fabulous. ‘Whatever you say, lover boy. Come on, on the ground.’ Norioth snorted. Very well, but we are going to have this talk later. E’san rolled his eyes. ‘Can’t wait.’
Joia and White Tellamuth
Tellamuth and Joia were just getting the hang of the lesson when the ropes became to stop falling. They had been using Tellamuth’s skills to the hilt, ducking in and out of the cold touch of black Between to avoid the clusters, then returning to burn them away. She was just starting to feel a little strain in the White when the lesson finally was called. Joia leaned forward, her hand clapping against Tellamuth’s neck. ‘You did great.’ Not really, we got hit. ‘But not in the last part?’ She tried to be positive.
I suppose you are right. It will take practice – Alduntulath! Tellamuth was already shifting, rising back to try to cover the Brown as Joia’s head swung up. A motion of Blue caught Joia’s attention to the left, and a moment later Tucseth shot by them. Tellamuth angled away, and the White pair watched as Vitra and her Blue ‘saved’ N’ova and his Brown. ‘If that had been real..’ It wasn’t. Tellamuth refused to let Joia take that thought any farther, and she was grateful.
The White and his rider circled, waiting for the Alduntulath to drop past them before joining him and the rest of their class on the ground. It had been an interesting, if not scary, life lesson neither of them would be forgetting.
(took a while, but there! My pair are on the ground. Fun thread everyone!)
