A'zael, S'fin
OOC: The new Weyrlings may attend of course! Their dragons will be settled in to sleep at this point, hatching takes a lot out of them after all. They would have all been given the prohibition lecture before attending so they'll know that they aren't allowed alcohol, among other things pff. They do not have to attend, however, so don't feel obligated. The Once Upon A Time and Champions of Legend clutches also still have a prohibition on alcohol if they attend, so keep that in mind. They can of course break the rules and hope they don't get caught~
A'zael had already known he wouldn't want to attend the hatching feast, but now that the hatching had actually taken place, it was all he could do to make himself leave his weyr again. Ugh, he hated dressing up. It wouldn't exactly do well for the Weyrleader to show up in less than his best, though. It would only be for a short time. He'd have a bite to eat, a glass of wine, greet anyone with an inflated sense of ego that needed to be soothed, and be back in his weyr before the night was over. That was the plan, anyway.
But Karredy hadn't made it to the Hatching. It was probably for the best, now that he thought about it. It had hardly been the happy event it was meant to be. More drama Mavros didn't need. More stress he didn't need. What else was new. Karredy probably wouldn't be at the feast either... which was also likely for the best, but.... He fiddled with the cuff of one sleeve for a bit, procrastinating. It had been the hatching of Talera's dragon... she could take Karredy's place tonight well enough. He didn't have to stay to make up for the Weyrwoman's absence, surely? Gah, he really wasn't cut out for playing politics, least of all in his current state.
A rustle of wings drew his attention and he turned toward his weyr ledge, where a green had landed. She was too dark to be Pallath. Rusath then. What other greenrider would be coming to see him right now if not one of his brothers? Fath had already gone to find Danovelith since his rider would be occupied for the evening. S'fin made his way over and A'zael tried for humor, “Have you come to tell me I don't have to go?”
S'fin laughed lightly, “Don't think that's up to me, little brother. I'm sure it won't be so bad....”
A'zael grunted vague agreement, his tone bitter, “It couldn't possibly be worse than the hatching.”
S'fin frowned slightly, his gaze falling to his brother's wrist, where he was still fiddling with the cuff. With a light sigh and a roll of his eyes, he batted his brother's hand away and straightened it out for him, then smoothed his collar a bit, “Faranth knows Rusath nags me enough about my own appearance. I think she's rubbing off a bit. There. Now don't fiddle with it again or you'll mess it up.” He reached up on instinct to ruffle his brother's hair, just as he'd done when they were kids.
A'zael narrowed his eyes at him, but a weak smile flickered over his lips, “... You just messed up my hair, and you're nagging me about my clothes?” He ran his hands through his hair to smooth it back out.
“Hahah... sorry... old habits,” S'fin grinned, “So, ready to go?” His brother grimaced and he laughed, “I knew you'd delay it. Come on, like you said, can't be worse than the hatching right? Bright side, Az, bright side!” Clapping him on the back, S'fin gave him a gentle nudge toward the door, and A'zael reluctantly allowed it.
“You know, Rau would help me play hookey, like a good brother,” A'zael growled accusingly.
S'fin just laughed again, sticking to his brother's side, “Love you too, Az.” He prodded him playfully in the side and A'zael slapped his hand away, “Hurry up now, won't do to be late, hm?”
How his brother could be so cheerful right now, A'zael had no idea, but... it did help. A little. It was hard to keep sulking when your brother was being your own personal ray of sunshine. He sighed, “Yeah, yeah... let's get this over with.”
“Hm, not entirely the attitude I was hoping for,” S'fin replied, and A'zael give him a light shove. They were side by side as they entered the dining cavern, set up as it was for the celebration. He was relieved to see that the high table setup had been forgone in anticipation of Karredy's absence. The Weyrwoman's absence would be felt less if they weren't all up on display for everyone to see who was and was not there. Which meant it would be easier for him to slip out later too.
S'fin gave his arm a light slap to draw his attention, “I'll be close by if you need me, but I'm sure your guests for the evening won't be entirely interested in the Weyrleader's greenrider brother hanging around.” A'zael was about to protest, but S'fin laughed at the look on his face, “You're more insulted for me than I am. It's all right, Az. I may not be helping you play hookey, but I will help you out of here after you've made your proper appearance. Like a good brother.” With a wink, S'fin parted from him, and he took a deep breath and prepared the most pleasant mask he could muster for the night. It would hardly be convincing to anyone that actually knew him, but for tonight's guests? It ought to be enough.
He made his way toward the food laid out, several of the dishes were reserved for special occasions due to Mavros's inability to procure their ingredients on a regular basis and he was determined to enjoy that part of the feast. S'fin had made sure to get him here decently early to let him half enjoy a meal at least before he was inevitably interrupted. Good brother indeed. He sat with a heaping plate and a glass of wine, doing his best not to draw attention to himself for as long as possible.
