Model: Maisie Williams
NAME: C'rys
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 15
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Asexual, heteroromantic
APPEARANCE: C'rys is a waif of a girl, slender and lithe, with little in the way of feminine curve. Her hair is a dark brown, and frames her thin face in a messy cut. Her eyes, large and expressive, are dark and grey. She is generally found in whatever tunic will fit her, along with trousers, boots, and a thick jerkin to aid against the colder months.
PERSONALITY FAULTS: C'rys is a social chameleon, so much so that she has a hard time deciding what she actually enjoys or desires, and what is merely something being done for the benefit of a goal. Similarly, her affections and temperament change with the situation; those that do not know her well might have a hard time understanding the current of her thoughts. A sticky-fingered girl, she is not above theft and guile to get what she wants. Distrusting of most, C'rys is constantly scheming to stay ahead of the curve, for no one gives something for nothing, and she will not be left with poor surprises.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: C'rys is constantly considering the effects of her actions, and is generally steps ahead of her peers in understanding a consequence. While a job may not please her, she will do it if it benefits the long-term goal. Able to adapt at situations as they come, she is quite talented at avoiding suspicion or fault; something that has aided her in petty thieving in the past. Loyal to a fault, she holds the Weyr above all else. Her new home is her family, and she will not betray their trusts. C'rys is surprisingly compassionate in the company of orphans and other “lost” children, as she would not wish her own past on any new generation.
FAMILY:
Mother, Betryssa, 46. Holdless (former weaver; currently "for sale").
Father, Carollon, 52. Holdless (former smallholder in Bitra).
Brother, Cartryn, 22. Holdless.
Brother, Barollo, 19. Holdless.
Brother, Carriso, 17. Holdless.
Brother, Betrol, 27. Guard in Igen Hold.
Sister-in-law, Samanta, 24.
Nephew, Samarol, 8.
HISTORY: Caryssin was born to a pair of holdless. Carollon, her father, was a heavy gambler, and when his wife was pregnant with their first son, the man wagered all of his lands and holdings in a game of dragon poker.
He lost.
Betryssa was able to pack but a few belongings, and the couple began a nomadic life, the wife selling woven works as she was able to make them, and the husband gambling the money away almost as soon as it was made.
When Betryssa could no longer find the sparse coin to make even the most meager of wares in which to sell back to trading caravans, Carollon began offering his wife up for sale. This eventually led to the births of the next three boys, and after some time, Caryssin herself.
Growing up without a hold to call home, Caryssin made herself useful (that is, too useful to sell) by losing herself within crowds and picking the pockets of unsuspecting holders, or warning the family of approaching dragons. Her brothers, miscreants in their own rights, took to hustling locals in games of “chance”, or false injuries. Over time, Caryssin watched each brother attempt to leave the life of crime their father had coerced them into and watched all but one fail. The eldest, Betrol, had been old enough to remember a time before crime, and found stability as a guardsman in Igen.
He married.
Had a child.
And took Caryssin into his home. The girl, seeing the offered life as something with which to better herself, obliged. Their father did not. When a fight ensued between father and brother, father came out the victor. Caryssin was taken back into the family, and Betrol went home limping.
He did not, however, stop trying to save his siblings from the life their parents had fallen into. He pleaded with the Weyrhold, encouraging Searchriders to investigate the local caverns. After some concentrated effort, a blue rider found the small family unit, and while all four children were found acceptable, Daltilith was quite happy to inform his rider that Caryssin was special; she could hear him, without any extra effort on the blue's part. And as only Carrysin took the opportunity to leave behind her family, Mollin was more than happy to oblige her lifemate by taking the girl back to Mavros. As no man in their right mind would dare fight a rider with her dragon in observance (never mind how much the rider in question had hoped he'd try), Caryssin was allowed to leave with the Search. Since coming to the Weyr, her father has written to her multiple times asking for marks and favors.
She has not replied to any letter but Betrol's.
Soon after her arrival to Mavros, it was revealed that she, along with the rest of the Weyrhold's candidates, would be sent between times in the hopes of giving twin golds Sularenth and Danovelith the time and opportunity to clutch and bring new wings of riders back to the present. It was during the dual hatching that Vorscuth sought out C'rys, as the two had likely made up their minds about the other during the touching ceremony.
Since Impression, C'rys has sought to form bonds of support with her fellow classmates, in the hopes that with enough backing, she might one day become wingleader despite Vorscuth's coloring. It is her private hope to further Betrol's good works and to one day better the lives of her brothers.
