It was nice to be able to help. For months Jakarin had wanted to do something other than wait for the next clutch to be laid. Heck, just helping in general was a smart thing to do; it helped build a good reputation and people would speak kindly about you.
What he had not anticipated was the weight that had now been placed upon his shoulders. It was supposed to have be a simple walk around the Lower Caverns; something he had enjoyed doing. Sometimes he would come across someone who needed assistance with something simple and, after helping out, just continue along his way. The one person he had not expected to see was one of the Assistant Weyrlingmasters - Sorena - in the area. She seemed to be talking with people about a few favours that needed to be taken care of, one of which involved taking things to Weyrlingmaster K'ton. Instantly, one of those that she was talking to brought him up and how helpful he tended to be. A chill shot down Jakarin's spine. Helping normal people with things was one thing, but helping a member of the upper ranks was a completely different story. Attempting to walk away proved useless as another pointed him out. Not good, Jakarin thought to himself.
The objective given to him from Sorena seemed fairly simple at first glance: Take a handful of papers to K'ton...and to be swift about it. These were important documents. Jakarin simply nodded as Amaril told him where he was to go.
Now all that was needed was a level head.
"OK, just relax," Jakarin said to himself, "Assistant Amaril told you how to get to master K'ton's room. This should not be a problem-"
A light breeze instantly caused Jakarin to re-think what he had just said. Perhaps it was best to pick up the pace. Unfortunately, that would not happen as a breeze more powerful than the one that came before it blew through the halls, blowing all the papers he had out of his hands. As the winds died down, Jakarin opened his eyes and looked down at his hands...only to find them empty. He looked around, frantically trying to find everything that he had initially possessed. Only one or two seemed to be present, but the rest...
Where had they gone?
