NAME: S’fin
RANK: Wingrider
AGE: 27
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Homosexual
DRAGON: Green Rusath
PETS: N/A
APPEARANCE:
S’fin is of slighter frame, his shoulders and chest not so broad, his build tall and lean, standing at 5' 11". That isn’t to say he doesn’t have firm muscle, built up and maintained through the rigorous life of a rider, it just isn’t as visibly apparent as it might be on a lot of other men. His skin is fairly tanned from a life lived majorly at Southern Weyr, his already naturally blonde hair bleached even brighter from the sun. He keeps his hair quite short and prefers to keep a carefully styled ‘just rolled out of bed’ look to it. His eyes are grey-blue, appearing at times more one or the other, depending on the light. During the warmer months he keeps himself clean shaven, which was pretty much all year round back at Southern, however now that he’s moved to Mavros and experienced it’s colder weather, he’s started to allow a light beard to grow in.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
S’fin is an incredibly selfless person, to the point of neglect. He would gladly give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it more, or every last shirt he owns if need be. He’ll stay up for days helping someone work out a problem only to collapse of exhaustion. He never thinks about his own welfare, so it’s a good thing his dragon is there to remind him about it on occasion. He can also be rather naïve when it comes to dealing with people, and though he realizes not everyone he meets might be worthy of trust, he can’t help but give them the benefit of the doubt. He always thinks the best of everyone he’s dealing with and it leaves him open to get ripped off, played, misled, and simply bold face lied to without ever being any wiser for it. S’fin absolutely loves to talk, about anything and everything, and gossip is probably his favorite pastime. He may accidentally pass on rumor as truth, a lot, which can come back to bite him if he passes on the wrong information about the wrong people. He is also quite the flirt, and gets a ridiculous amount of amusement out of flirting with men he very well knows would never be interested in him and making them flustered, though it has gotten him punched a number of times.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
S’fin has always been, generally, a very responsible person. He works hard wherever he’s needed, obeys orders to the best of his ability, and volunteers for jobs and duties he knows most others don’t like to make sure they get done. Even as a child, he was always quite mature for his age, and though he much prefers to be laughing, smiling, and joking, he is very aware of the right time and place for such things and when the time calls for one to be serious and mature. Despite his love of gossip, he is more than capable of keeping a secret when told him in explicit confidence and is always willing to be a listening ear and shoulder to cry on for anyone who needs it and does possess a decent amount of tact. Extremely friendly, he enjoys being social, meeting new people and making new friends. He is incredibly loyal to those he calls friend, and will gladly go to the ends of Pern for them. He often takes on a big brother type role with his friends, whether they want him to or not, and feels an obligation to be there for them and protect them from whatever troubles come their way. He also takes it upon himself to play the role of everyone’s common sense when he thinks they’re doing something idiotic.
FAMILY: Zafina (mother, rider of Green Kyrith), T’sor (father, rider of Brown Mohath), A’zael (half-brother, rider of Bronze Fath),
HISTORY:
S’fin was born Sorfinel, son of greenrider Zafina and brownrider T’sor of Southern Weyr, the result of one of his mother’s dragon’s mating flights. He knew his parents, but had very little to do with either of them, which didn’t bother him. They were both riders, they were busy, he came to understand that at an early age. The crèche was no bad place to grow up. After he had turned 5 turns, his mother brought another child to the crèche, another consequence of a mating flight, his little half-brother Azaelos. He found himself becoming rather protective of the baby and his little brother grew, the two of them became very close.
They grew up constantly competing with each other, always friendly of course, and because of his 5 turns head start on his brother physically and mentally, he most often won, no matter what they happened to be doing. Still his little brother never gave up or got angry, which he always found admirable. He also acquired something of an adopted brother in the way of his little brother’s best friend, Rauget. He was there to witness the results of the terrible twosome’s ridiculous antics on many occasion and generally ended up scolding them both for being complete wherrybrains.
At 14 turns he began Standing as a Candidate, and at 15 he Impressed his gorgeous green Rusath. Weyrlinghood flew by and soon he was a fully fledged rider. He still visited his brother, or brothers as it was for he couldn’t help but think of Rauget as his little brother just as much as Azaelos… which made it rather awkward when the younger boy seemed to develop some sort of crush on him. He did his best to let him down easy, feeling that even when Rauget was older, he could never be attracted to someone he thought of as a kid brother.
His time as a rider otherwise passed fairly uneventfully until that first Threadfall took the southern Weyrs by surprise. He and Rusath both bear the scars of Threadscore from that day, she along her flank and he over his right shoulder and half way down his back. He had never been more thankful for Between than that day, for it had saved both their lives. It kept them both out of the air for a while, and he used the time recovering to spend time with Azaelos and Rauget. Azaelos grudgingly admitted his frustration with not having yet Impressed, rather worked up that he hadn’t been able to fly in that first Fall, that maybe if he had S’fin and Rusath wouldn’t have been hurt, because it was just like his brother to blame himself for bad things that happened that were completely out of his hands.
So when he heard about Mavros, and how much trouble they were having, and how much he knew Azaelos just loved to help those who really needed it, he suggested to his brother that he transfer there as a Candidate, try his luck with new Golds and new eggs. A short time later he was saying goodbye to both Azaelos and Rauget, both of them sent off to Mavros. Things seemed… entirely too quiet without them. It wasn’t too long before news of poisonings at Mavros ran rampant. As soon as the actual facts were set out, S’fin volunteered to help search for the one responsible, and was able to see both Azaelos and Rauget Impress as Mirran. And his brother to a Bronze, no less. His days after the Hatching were spent mostly in flight, on search for this rogue rider and his supporters, but no sign of them was ever found.
Eventually, after hearing the crazy news that A’zael had become Weyrleader, he decided he was due for a change of scenery himself, and requested the transfer to Mavros. It was delayed for quite a while, as he figured it would be. The Weyrs had since withdrawn help and transfers from Mavros for all but those deemed troublemakers in their own Weyrs, an insult to send anywhere but the rogue Weyrhold. Transfer to Mavros had begun to be considered something of a death sentence amongst riders at Southern, which S’fin thought of as entirely ridiculous. Eventually though, with enough nagging, and a little bit of stirring things up to help their consideration about wanting to keep him around or not, it was at last approved.
And off he went to Mavros, bearing gifts in the form of a clutch of strange eggs he and Rusath had found on the edge of the snowy wastes. It turns out he and his dragon had rediscovered some long lost species. He wondered if that wouldn’t be their claim to fame in the annals of history. Certainly not what he had ever thought he might be remembered for. Since his arrival at Mavros, things have been rather hectic and he hasn’t had as much time as he would like to spend with A’zael and R’get, and otherwise socialize with his new Weyrfellows.
