Not very long after L'dar had found his way off of the sands, was he joined by others. The first of the many that he actually knew more than he recognized was Vadarat. Well, Vadarat no longer by name, but Rat all the same. He had impressed the brown that seemed rather hostile toward L'dar's Kinth. "Congratulations!" offered L'dar, "Feisty dragon you've got there." The brown hissed at Kinth as he passed on his way to be fed by V'rat. Curious, L'dar addressed Kinth.
"Why is he so hostile toward you?" asked the weyrling as he tore another chunk of meat off for Kinth to swallow easily. He spoke low as for the dragon in question to not hear him speak.
Ignore Killith, my dear L'dar. He is of no consequence. Kinth was holding some information back, obviously, but L'dar was too elated to pursue further inquiry. He was far more concerned with trying to control his elation and not embrace Kinth in a massive bear hug. Please do not do that. I am eating after all.
The new weyrlings were joined yet again by someone L'dar actually knew. Unfortunately, it was not someone that L'dar was very fond of. He spotted Vahguel walking by with his newly impressed green? L'dar expected Vah to impresses a brown at the very least. He was barely able to mask his mirth underneath of legitimate congratulations as he addressed the pair. "Congratulations you two," he said simply. "I'm sure you're a great fit for one another."
This amuses you? The concern in Kinth's voice was unmistakable.
"Yes. Why do you ask?" replied a confused L'dar.
My sister is a spiteful, clever, cunning creature with a near unquenchable thirst for power. And from what I gathered of her bonded, he is the same. You should be worried more than anything.
"Oh," replied L'dar, stunned and kicking himself for his foolish notions. Despite the fact that he had no way of knowing. The False Queen Egg had brushed him off for the most part.
Luckily for us, began the bronze. I am considerably smarter.
And lo and behold, another former candidate L'dar knew. Maylin strolled by carrying her new life mate. He offered considerably less hollow congratulations to the new green weyrling; not that he was hollow to Vah, he just didn't much care for him. "Good for you Maylin. That is a lovely green you have," he said cheerfully. Then he addressed Eswanth herself. "And a lovely bonded you found. Good job." He smiled at the pair as they moved away in order for feeding to commence.
L'dar was momentarily stopped as he saw a brown hatchling walk by with his bonded. Seeing a brown weyrling was not unusual, but a female brown weyrling? He had never heard of a female impressing brown before. Granted, he had only been at a weyr for a few months, but nonetheless, this was strange to him.
Regardless of the oddity of the pairing, L'dar was happy for Thiis. He had met her recently and knew little about her, save for the fact that she too was a farmer. That was so far, the only thing they had in common. And he wasn't about to insult anyone, especially for something that was entirely in the hands of fate, well out of the individual's control.
"Congratulations, Thiis!" he smiled genuinely at her. "That is a handsome brown. I'm happy for you." L'dar focused his attention back fully onto feeding Kinth.
