The three basic abilities (agility, speed, and endurance) give a quick and easy way to see what your dragon is capable of. Each ability can range from 1 to 9 with 1 being the worst and 9 being the best. Certain colors are more inclined to higher scores in certain abilities and lower scores in others. But what do these scores mean EXACTLY for your dragon and why are they relevant? While it is a bit of an extra and obviously not entirely necessary and very few Pern sites implement any sort of ability rating system, it is somewhat interesting, and here's what the abilities and scores mean in a little more depth.
AGILITY – How maneuverable the dragon is in flight; are they lumbering or limber?
1-2 (poor, Blues and Greens never have 1s or 2s)
-Dragons with 7-8 for agility are highly maneuverable and limber in the sky and will likely have no trouble dodging Thread with almost never skipping between; they will also be capable of performing fun and daring stunts.
9 (best, only Greens generally reach this point, but Blues might as well)
-Dragons with 9 for agility are capable of amazing acrobatic stunts and maneuvers that could be dangerous for any dragon with a score lower than them.
SPEED – How fast the dragon is capable of flying; are they slow and steady or a living lightning bolt?
1-2 (poor, Blues and Greens never have 1s or 2s)
-Dragons with 1-2 for speed are incapable of much speed unless in a dead fall; males with 1-2 for speed have almost no chance to ever catch a Green when she rises.
3-4 (average, common for Golds, Bronzes, and larger Browns)
-Dragons with 3-4 for speed aren’t able to reach very high speeds without the help of gravity (dives and falls); males with 3-4 for speed are unlikely to catch a Green when she rises.
5-6 (good, Blues and Greens rarely have less than this)
-Dragons with 5-6 for speed can be quite swift, but are unlikely to be able to keep up the speed for a great length of time; males with 5-6 for speed have a decent chance at catching Greens.
7-8 (excellent, Golds, Bronzes, and Browns rarely achieve this)
-Dragons with 7-8 for speed will easily fly at high speeds for extended periods; males with 7-8 for speed will have a good chance at catching rising Greens.
9 (best, only Blues and Greens will ever reach this point)
-Dragons with 9 for speed can effortlessly become a blur in the sky; a Green with 9 for speed is only ever likely to be caught by the fastest Blues unless she deliberately chooses someone else.
ENDURANCE – How long the dragon can fly before tiring; how long can they last in flight?
1-2 (poor, common for Greens; Golds, Bronzes, and Browns never have 1s or 2s)
-Dragons with 1-2 for endurance will be lucky to last through two hours of Threadfall.
3-4 (average, common for Blues, uncommon for Greens; Golds, Bronzes, and Browns rarely have 4s)
-Dragons with 3-4 for endurance will be able to last two to three hours of Threadfall.
5-6 (good, common for Browns, uncommon for Blues, Greens will only rarely reach 5)
-Dragons with 5-6 for endurance will be able to last four to five hours of Threadfall.
7-8 (excellent, common for Golds and Bronzes, uncommon for Browns, Blues and Greens will never achieve this)
-Dragons with 7-8 for endurance will be able to last a full six hours of Threadfall, with some possible fatigue depending on the difficulty of the Fall.
9 (best, only Golds and Bronzes tend to reach this point, Browns rarely reach it)
-Dragons with 9 for endurance will effortlessly last a full Threadfall.
AGILITY – How maneuverable the dragon is in flight; are they lumbering or limber?
1-2 (poor, Blues and Greens never have 1s or 2s)
Dragons with 1-2 for agility are lumbering in flight and will never be capable of any type of acrobatics; they may have a hard time avoiding Threadscore without heavy use of skipping between.3-4 (average, generally about the highest Golds, Bronzes, and Browns can get)
Threadfall Effect: +2 to all rolls
Dragons with 3-4 for agility will never achieve any exceptional acrobatics, though they might be able to perform some surprising maneuvers under dire circumstances.5-6 (good, Blues and Greens rarely have less than this; Golds and Bronzes rarely achieve 5, and Browns rarely achieve 6)
Threadfall Effect: +1 to all rolls
Dragons with 5-6 for agility are quite limber in flight and will probably be able to dodge Thread most of the time, with some help from skipping between; they might be able to perform a few fun tricks.7-8 (excellent, Golds, Bronzes, and Browns will never achieve this)
Threadfall Effect: None
-Dragons with 7-8 for agility are highly maneuverable and limber in the sky and will likely have no trouble dodging Thread with almost never skipping between; they will also be capable of performing fun and daring stunts.
9 (best, only Greens generally reach this point, but Blues might as well)
-Dragons with 9 for agility are capable of amazing acrobatic stunts and maneuvers that could be dangerous for any dragon with a score lower than them.
