NAME: Podrell
RANK: Candidate, Journeyman Glass-smith
AGE: 21 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: heterosexual
DRAGON: N/A
PETS: N/A
APPEARANCE: Podrell stands at a decent 5’ 10” and has a muscular build, particularly in his upper body, and he is fair skinned. His dark brown, nearly black hair is kept short, and prominent dark eyebrows sit above hazel eyes that can appear light brown or green depending upon the light. He keeps a short, neatly trimmed and groomed beard, as it helps him to look older and therefore garners him a bit more respect for his age than he might otherwise receive. As one who revels in the finer things in life, he tends to dress in the finest clothing he can, though he has some less expensive outfits for when he is at work at his craft.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Noncommittal, Manipulative, Ambitious
One can rarely know for sure if what Podrell is saying is really what he means, for the young man is prone to saying what he thinks others want to hear at the time, whether he truly believes in his own words or holds those opinions or not. While he is not exactly an outright liar, and he would never say that he held any opinions that he was in reality staunchly against, he is hesitant to commit to any but the most moderate of opinions and actions in order to keep the majority of people on his side without alienating any but the most extreme. He would much rather dance around a subject than share his true thoughts and feelings about anything, for that opens him up to criticism and debate he would rather avoid. He has no qualms about using his words to manipulate others, though one can be sure he would never do such a thing for any darker purpose than to serve his own ambitions. And he is ambitious. He wants more for himself, wants Lordship, wants the power and the respect that comes with it, wants to stand on equal footing with so many of his family members, or higher footing even. He likes being admired and chases that feeling.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Adaptable, Resourceful, Charming
Podrell is incredibly well read in many different subjects and is a bit of a jack of all trades sort. This means he has some knowledge of just about any subject one can bring up, though only just enough to get by, enough to make himself seem like he knows more than he really does and to fill in holes in his knowledge with educated guesses. He is very good at adapting to whatever the situation calls for, even if he’s in over his head, and can often maintain the illusion that he is perfectly in control and knows exactly what he’s talking about. He has an impressive poker face and is a master at bluffing his way through just about anything. It doesn’t hurt, either, that he has a certain charisma and charm. He has always found it easy to make friends and has a talent for mediation, making him generally well liked and sought after by his peers in disputes, to help settle matters fairly.

HISTORY:
Podirra, daughter of Lord Porrinsen, held a special place in her father’s heart as his firstborn, for there is nothing like holding your first child in your arms. Perhaps it was because of this that she was allowed to get away with more than her eventual younger sisters. She was given more freedom as a girl than Orrinda or Irrina ever were. Cove Hold is known for its beautiful white sand beaches, sands that are prized in the glass craft, and thus the Hold has many glass-smiths in residence. From a young age, Podirra had a fascination for glass trinkets and soon became intensely interested in the craft. Her father allowed her to learn of the craft at the side of a good friend of his, though not to be officially apprenticed. It was during this time she met and grew close to her future husband, a promising young glass-smith with an impressive talent in his craft, the son of the man she had learned from. Because of the close relationship between Porrinsen and the man’s father, he gave his blessing for their marriage, when Rellifex eventually asked. It wasn’t long after their marriage that Podirra was pregnant with their first child, and only son, Podrell.
The family remained part of the Lord’s household, and so Podrell grew up in luxury, and learned something of what it meant to be a Lord. As a boy he dreamed of becoming Lord of Cove but his mother chided him for it, for if he was to be named Lord then it likely would not be until her father, all her brothers, and all their sons were dead. Though she was not cruel about it, Podirra gently encouraged him to let that dream go and aspire to something else. Like the glass craft that had always fascinated her. There was some prestige in being a talented glass-smith, after all, and one could make a very good living in the craft. So that’s what he did, apprenticed under his father when he was old enough, though he still longed for that dream his mother was so insistent would never happen for him. He found some satisfaction in the craft, in the wonder his creations could inspire, in knowing such a technical skill that not many on Pern would ever know.
But he didn’t stop there. He read whatever he could whenever he got the chance, particularly about other crafts or anything even remotely having to do with running a Hold. Though he never gained experience at his grandfather’s side, he has some practical knowledge about what it takes thanks to his readings. He thought he might one day strike out to build up his own Hold, like his uncle Dirinsen had tried to do, since he had no hope of inheriting Cove. However, Dirinsin boasted of his candidacy for Mavros’s Lordship and Podrell saw his chance and entered himself into contention as well. Annoyingly, so did his uncle Asirikai.
