NAME: Gonalden
RANK: Journeyman Minecraft | Possible Lord Holder of Mavros
AGE: 23 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
WHER: Bronze Gonask
PETS: Runnerbeast Dapple
APPEARANCE: At first glance, you probably wouldn’t expect Gonalden to be anything but what he currently is: a miner who enjoys his craft. He rarely looks the part, dressed in soot-stained clothes, dirt-smudged cheeks and hair that sticks out every which way. He’s a bit shorter than average, not quite five feet, five inches, broad-shouldered and with arms well muscled from his craft.
His hair might be the most eye-catching about him, honestly. It’s seldom tamed, unless he’s due to appear at a dinner or a party or some other event where the day-to-day appearance won’t fly around people who expect more. Long, thick and curly, it looks like some haphazard nest something built atop his head, darker at the roots but bleached at the tips. He tames it typically just by tying it back after a wash- any comments about cutting it short are laughed off. He likes it this way.
His skin is darker, a product of his parentage. His jaw slants to a curve, an obvious cleft in his chin. His eyes are almond-shaped and a warm brown in color.
Face Claim: Corbin Bleu
PERSONALITY: Gonalden has never been the slightest bit ambitious. He’s happy simply living each day as it comes, making the most of his life as it is: he let his brothers take the glory of pushing for Lordships while he went about his life in a much more private way. He excelled in most of the lessons taught by his father and the Hold’s Harpers, but he knew as well as any that his ascension was unlikely unless something untoward happened to both older brothers.
He’s always found it easy to make friends, his quiet tendency to listen and offer sympathy or advice as asked- or just a listening ear if that was all that was wanted. He’s more likely to cut up and get a bit rowdy when he’s with miner companions, comfortable that even with his heritage they accept him as one of them. His interactions with family vary more widely, but they’re usually more reserved. They wouldn’t appreciate his antics and out of respect for them he curbs the more tasteless parts of his personality when he’s around his family- especially his young niece and nephew.
While he might not be quite as ambitious as his brothers, he still has a tendency to push for what he wants to do and not much will sway him- especially when others think he can’t measure up. He may not be competitive, but he does have a stubborn side that won’t allow him to admit defeat in the faces of doubters.
He is loyal to family and all too happily dotes on the loved ones in his life, buying the younger ones gifts for every occasion and doing his best to make sure his wife wants for little. He might have found his calling as a miner, but he’s still part of the Castel Lord’s family and he isn’t often refused whatever he wants.
FAMILY: Brother: Kaldego - Lord of Castel Hold
Brother: Dekalnon - Lord of Solstin Hold
Wife: Selasi
HISTORY: The youngest of three boys, Gonalden grew up in comfort, with the firm guidance of his mother and father; he was just another boy following in the steps of Kaldego and Dekalnon. And as they did, so he got the same lessons in Hold leadership along with the lessons of reading, writing and arthimetic. Basic skills, to be sure, but enough to allow him to check for himself how the Hold was faring without having to rely on what others told him to be true.
It also came to light that Gonalden had a fear of talking to crowds; his father’s attempts to cure him of this went nowhere, and it’s something he still deals with. With his father’s obvious intent on forcing this issue to disappear one way or another- pushing Gonalden to be as enterprising as his brothers. In an effort to avoid the persistant nudging, Gonalden began to make himself scarce from the Hold as much as possible.
Little by little, he found himself drawn to the world of Minecraft, and against his father’s wishes he signed up for apprenticeship with them. He might have been soft even by normal standards, considering he’d done no hard labor unlike most of the other apprentices. He suffered stiff muscles for nearly a sevenday as he adjusted to the work, but he pushed through it; he might not be half as competitive as his brothers, but he had a core of steel as they did, and he wouldn’t be anyone’s laughingstock, when half of them expected him to give up because he couldn’t handle it.
He adjusted, in time, and gradually made friends and became more or less an accepted part of the group. His father, seeming to accept that his youngest son would always be the odd one out, had backed off trying to push Gonalden into measuring up to his brothers, and life was about as good as it could be.
His rise to Journeyman was followed shortly by his wedding to a young woman he’d been courting for a Turn- and that was followed shortly by the gift of a wher egg. He’d worked alongside the beasts for some time, but he hadn’t really expected to be allowed to bond to one himself. He attended the Hatching of the new whers when they were ready, and he found himself on the receiving end of a bronze wher’s attention. The bite that spilled his blood for the wher was a bit more aggressive than necessary, but the gentle lick that came afterward was an apology of sorts. And so their training began, a Turn passing as the man learned all he could about the wher and the duties that came with it.
He had had thought the attempts to push him into a higher position had ended, but the conversation one night turned to the fact that Mavros’ Lord Holder position had been opened to Candidates, and Kaldego encouraged Gonalden to put his name in. Not immediately did he agree; he had a life he was happy with here- why change it up?
Kaldego didn’t seem willing to let it go that easily, and more to get his brother off his back than because he thought he could do it, Gonalden eventually put himself forward. At the very least, he had the knowledge- maybe, he hoped, he’d fit into the role just as he had with mining? Or so he hopes. Maybe, if he gets it, he might earn a bit more respect from both his brothers and his father, who might live to see each of his sons take up a Lord’s role in some Hold- even if it is as uncertain as Mavros.
