Late 5th Month, 6th Turn, 10th Pass
A'zael
M’try’s appearance on his weyr ledge was something of a surprise for A’zael, the bluerider currently assigned as watchrider at Jask Hold. “Come on in, M’try. I imagine you have some news for me from Jask?” he invited the bluerider inside quickly, curious what he had to report.
“Yes, yes, Lord Degranik asked me to come. He’s to be wed at month’s end and there will be a gather of course, and he would be, as he asked me to put it, most honored if his Weyr would attend the festivities,” M’try responded, looking like he was trying very hard to remember just exactly how the Lord had worded it. “Oh,” and he pulled out a rolled up hide with Jask’s seal on it for him, “This is the official announcement, he said.”
A’zael grinned as he broke the seal and unrolled the hide to read it.
With great joy Lord Degranik of Jask Hold proudly announces his wedding to Lady Relaena, daughter of the most esteemed Lord Reageren of Charin Hold, to take place on the 30th day of the 6th Month of the Turn 2761. After the ceremony a great gather will be held in Jask Hold which all of Pern is invited to attend and enjoy in celebration of the union…. A’zael couldn’t help but laugh as he continued reading. Such a pompous sounding announcement. It wasn’t at all Degranik’s style, but he was sure Reageren would expect it. Perhaps the older man had orchestrated the wording himself. Or perhaps Degranik was just trying to stay on his new father-in-law’s good side.
“At least he’s holding it in the summer,” A’zael murmured, amused.
M’try added then, “You’re of course invited to the ceremony, he wanted me to make sure you knew. All of the Weyr is, actually… being that we’re so small and all. Is what he said. He figured there’d be room enough for most anyone from the Weyr that wanted to be there.”
A’zael looked up from the hide as the bluerider spoke, shaking his head slightly. So that’s why Degranik had asked for his Fall predictions for the next month. He didn’t normally do them so far in advance as it left more room for error, but he’d told the Lord as much and he was sure Degranik would have picked a date to account for it. It would be the first wedding of any Lord beholden to the Weyr and it would do well to make a good appearance for it. “Assure him I’ll be there, M’try, and I’ll spread the word about the Weyr for anyone else interested in attending.”
M’try nodded, “I should probably be heading back-”
“Ah, and congratulate him for me. And tell him… Mavros will be bringing a gift,” he grinned, as the idea occurred to him. It had gone over quite well at Turnover after all.
M’try blinked in confusion, “A gift?”
“Mm, tell him I’ll be by to discuss it with him at his earliest convenience and get back to me on that, if you would? Hold on,” he turned away and strode to his office, pulling out his prediction chart and rummaging a bit for a spare scrap of hide to jot down a few dates before heading back to the bluerider, “Here, in case he’s misplaced the predictions I’ve sent him, these dates should be safe for us to plan a meeting.”
Still a bit lost, the bluerider just nodded, taking the scrap of hide from him, “Sure thing. Am I… good to go now?”
A’zael laughed lightly, “Yeah, you’re good. Thanks for delivering the news, M’try.”
