NAME: Lo’qui [Louquin]
RANK: Wing Rider in Gale Wing
AGE: 37 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
DRAGON: Bronze Jarath
WHER: NA
PETS: NA
APPEARANCE: FC: Boris Kodjoe. He is a tall and broad man, reaching 6’ 4” by his early 20’s. After long years of caring for his large bronze, he is well in shape and very toned. His skin is a dark rich tone that darkens if he spends too much time in the sun. He wears his head shaved and a thin goatee short. He makes sure that he is always in a presentable state and cleans himself often (multiple baths a day if he has the time and leisure). He has many long split scars on his left arm, matching Jareth’s scars on his left shoulder from a particular bad thread fall. Also a couple of smaller knicks on the left side of his face (high cheek bone) and leg.
Personality Type: ENFJ-A, Protagonist
PERSONALITY FAULTS: Devious, Socially Cautious, Saucy/Sarcastic, Jealous/Selfish
As his personality is usually upbeat and cordial, one wouldn’t expect his devious nature. However, he will take action if he thinks it is for the better. He is loyal to a fault, doing things to protect (especially his sister) and those he cares about. If he thinks something should be a certain way or need to be changed, he will do all in his power to make it come to pass, even if it means taking not-so-accepted ways in doing it.
He is socially cautious He loves people in general and is social, but his expectations of people are very low. He does not expect people to meet his high standards, and is always pleasantly surprised when someone acts like he thinks they should (though he isn’t foolish enough to show this). Trust is earned once he is surprised over a long period of time - often many years. He does enjoy the company of others despite this, and isn’t completely gentle when it comes to verbal jabs and sarcasm.
He definitely has attitude and isn’t afraid of confrontation (as long as he feels it’s justified, because he first takes caution, unless he doesn’t like you). He will usually make a judgement call, whether he thinks he should just do what he wants or confront before doing what he wants anyways. He’s very bold and will approach ladies with confidence (however, he’s never felt the need or trust enough to commit fully). His lack of confidence in the human race often leads to much heartbreak, either because he’s not ready to commit or he says something stupid in which the lady then takes offense.
Whether or not he is accepted, he doesn’t really care. Once he wants something, he can be pretty possessive. While he will share readily with ‘things’ it’s his time and attention that he can get jealous or selfish about… because he’s not sure he believes that there’s enough love in the world for everyone.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS: Loyal, Amorous, Passionate, Optimistic, Initiative/Impulsive/Reckless
His loyalty is hard earned, but once you’ve attained it and retained it, Lo’qui will never be the first to cross a line. Usually he won’t cross anyone even if they haven’t quite earned his trust. He is cautious and calculative, but still believes the guilty until proven innocent philosophy. While he has very low expectations about people in general, he has more optimism in other parts of his life. He enjoys the challenges day to day and meets them with confidence that he can get them done. He’s good at letting go pieces of the puzzle that he can’t control and does what he can (all that he can) to make things go in the way he thinks they should go.
He loves finding things to do, especially if he can find something to do before being told what to do. If he’s already being productive, he can’t be told what to do, right? He takes initiative with most aspects of his life, accomplishing and taking on often more than he can handle. His dragon is usually the only one that can convince him that he’s taken on too much and helps him when he gets overwhelmed when he’s gotten himself in too deep. Lo’qui is also very good at pretending that everything is fine, when everyone around him may think otherwise.
Lo’qui is a romantic. He loves beautiful women and will always prefer their company. It doesn’t mean he trusts them any more than men, actually he trusts them less with his heart. He has a hard time settling after having his heart broken multiple times, but he still chases and catches - but usually isn’t sure what to do after a while once he’s caught the girl’s attentions. He’ll write them poems (albeit somewhat sloppily), sing for them (with his decent, though not glamorous voice), and do do practically anything to catch their attention.
Lo’qui can read and write, if not slowly, but will never try to consult a book to figure something out. He will go to the source to discover how it works and often try to do it on his own to learn. He is very open to listening to the opinions and professionals of how things work, but once he thinks he knows how to do it will be less privy to seeking help to do things. He is passionate about life and will let you know it. He is social and good mannered, but get him talking on something he’s passionate about and he’ll talk your ear off. Usually he’s good at catching himself when he’s in such a mood, but his dragon also likes to tease him about how he should catch his breath before the next phrase.

HISTORY:
Born and raised in Ierne Weyr with a Green Rider mother and Brownrider father.
Being the oldest there was always a lot of pressure on Lo’qui to do his best and succeed in every aspect. He had difficulty finding what he enjoyed most and was best at. He dabbled in all sorts of trades as he grew up, taking the initiative and visiting trades to learn this and that. His favorites were cooking, the making of instruments, and the beast/herd craft. Of them, he spent the most time in the stalls when he had the chance, learning all the different signals and ways of making riding a herd beast manageable. He traded mucking stalls and cleaning the beasts for lessons on how to ride them. While he did not enjoy his reading and writing lessons, he does know how to do both, if not a bit slower than the well-learned.
As soon as he was old enough he was put up as a candidate. At first it was difficult for Lo’qui to give up the time he had been spending on collecting hobbies to devote to to-be dragon rider lessons, in fact - he dodged lessons when possible to do other things, cramming as much of his time in doing as much as possible. It wasn’t that he didn’t fancy being a dragon rider, it was just he had other things on his mind. He didn’t see the point of being a rider with no thread to fight.
Lo’qui tried to ignore the high pressure from his family to impress, but was soon alienated when his brother two years younger impressed before he did. Finally at age 17, soon after his brother impressed, Lo’qui impressed to the largest in the clutch - to Jarath. It changed his life for the most part, as learning to ride and care for his dragon took up a lot of time. However, the longer he was a rider, the more comfortable and bored he got with ‘just’ being a rider. He would fly to different holds and talk with the people to get to know them and their lives. When given opportunities he would learn with the holders - often creating friendships. (However, Lo’qui never put his own trust in these friendships, usually for his own enjoyment. But, if he ever promised anything, would always keep the promise or deal.)
His father died during a racing accident when Lo’qui was 21. Lo’qui’s optimistic dragon almost always participated in the races, though never won. During this particular race as the dragons careened around a corner, there was a collision that included Lo’qui and his bronze and his father, a long with a couple of other dragons. Two fell - one was able to correct themselves, but Lo’qui’s father and his dragon betweened to save themselves from crashing and never appeared again. A part of Lo’qui blames himself for the crash - but his mother definitely blames him. He has not participated in a race since, to his dragon’s chagrin.
He was admittedly one of the many who did not believe thread would come. He spent as much time as he believed necessary to keep learned, but often found himself traveling hold to hold, or even to other places around Pern to learn and discover. Which also meant he was one of the many that were taken by surprise by the thread when it actually came. The years that he spent in blissful obliviousness he also brought his little sister along on some of his adventures.
After thread appeared his activities were shorted to training for thread fall, fighting thread, and resting from fighting thread and thread injuries. Because of Jareth’s size Lo’qui would fight to have more of the smaller dragons to cover Lo’qui’s lack of agility - but because of D’min’s opinion of bronze riders (especially Lo’qui) he would ‘forget’ or not take Lo’qui’s requests seriously. Many of the scars both rider and dragon received are because of D’min’s prejudice against bronzes.
It was recent news to him when he learned that his sister was involved with D’min. Lo’qui felt it was in spite of him that he was wooing his sister. D’min and Lo’qui had confronted each other many times on different things (D’min didn’t like how Lo’qui would ‘waste’ his time visiting holds) and had suggested that he would be better suited for a different Weyr. Finally, Lo’qui approached D’min and told him that he would leave on the condition that he would tell his sister that he didn’t love her and to leave with him. Lo’qui didn’t see the interaction, but Riasu agreed to go with him to Mavros for a new life.
Children: Lo'qui is very involved in the lives of his children. Not so much with the mothers - but he doesn't let the awkward relationship with the mothers get in the way of his relationships with his children. He is actively involved in helping them discover what their passions are, not wanting them to be limited or pressured to impress. To help them learn responsibility of taking care of a dragon, he would enlist their help in cleaning and oiling Jarath (and for help with his large dragon).
Twins (17 turns) - mother: Cionessa is a beastcrafter at Ierne Hold. As soon as Jarath was large enough to fly, Lo'qui would visit Irene and other surrounding smaller holds. Since at the time there was no thread, Lo'qui would explore other things rather than practicing for when thread would actually come. Beastcraft was one of those things he was especially interested in, even before impressing. Cionessa and he fell in love - or at least Lo'qui thought it was love. His father didn't approve of Lo'qui and after the immature two had tumbled in the barn (quite literally), Cionessa's father found a suitable husband for her that wasn't a dragonrider. Lo'qui was amazed that Cionessa went along with her father's plan like a puppet. Although the marriage was to cover up the fact that Cionessa had had sex out of wedlock, her father hadn't quite realized that the children's skin would give them away. Lo'qui still wanted his children, though he felt too young to be a father, and Lo'qui's father (before his death) suggested that they come to Ierne Weyr's creche. So the twins have grown up in the creche, their mother does visit - though rarely - and Lo'qui hasn't seen her except at a distance.
Son (13 turns) - mother: Mivura
Youngest two children: Rhuliana's green dragon, Tugilooth, is a dragon of passion. She would choose a dragon and stick with them for seasons, then change depending on silly things - like the weather or color of the dragon. For a couple of years she focused on Jarath, choosing to let the bronze catch her each time she rose. Rhuliana was from a hold and still has a hard time accepting parts of weyr culture. She was not fun to wake up with, attempting to push Lo'qui out of the bed, screaming at him to leave. Part of this was the way she kept her children, but as soon as they went into the creche, she wasn't very involved with her children's lives. Lo'qui was glad when Tugilooth got over her obsession with Jarath. While he didn't regret having two beautiful children with no need for commitment, he wasn't sure just how many more children he wanted at his age. Lo'qui plans to take the children to Mavros without telling Rhuliana.
