NAME: M'kal (Mirekal)
RANK: Weyrling
AGE: 21 Turns
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
DRAGON: Bronze Draveth
APPEARANCE: M'kal is something of a picture for the phrase 'tall, dark, and handsome'. He has dark brown hair and rich brown eyes, a naturally tanned complexion, and at 6'2” he is tall but slim, though he has gained a healthier weight since moving to Mavros and receiving a deal more food. He is decently fit from a life time of physical labor, and is only gaining muscle from his weyrling training. He generally has some form of stubble or light beard covering his face. With a single mother that had only minimal interest in the raising of her children, M'kal has never had much option in the way of clothing, and wears whatever he can get, though it certainly isn't by choice.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Arrogant and Entitled – M'kal has had a heightened sense of self-importance ever since finding out about his father being a bronzerider. And now that he's Impressed his own bronze, his ego has hardly deflated any. In M'kal's eyes, it has only proved his worth, that everything he thought about himself was true, and that he deserves more from life, to be honored and respected.
Antagonistic and Competitive – M'kal is ridiculously competitive, eager to show off just how much better he is than others. This often involves putting others down, however, for despite his outward arrogance and confidence, there is an insecurity that drives him as well, with his mother being nothing more than a nobody cook that could hardly be bothered to even see him safely to adulthood. Should his superiority be threatened, verbal assault is his first line of defense, followed by a more physical reaction.
Impatient and Sarcastic – M'kal speaks sarcasm fluently and doesn't have a lot of patience. Easily annoyed, his temper often getting the better of him, though he has at least gotten better about getting physical when his temper flares since coming to the Weyrhold. His impatience also often has him jumping headfirst into things he isn't ready for and biting off more than he can chew.
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Ambitious and Confident – From a young age M'kal has desired MORE from life, coming from very, very little. While learning of his sire set him on the path to wanting more, since coming to the Weyr he has learned that a dragonrider stands on their own merits, not those of their parents, and he's come to find that he's all right with that. He never knew his father, he has no idea what sort of man he really was, and he's perfectly fine with making himself into his own man, one to be admired and desired. He has no lack of confidence, with complete and utter faith in his ability to achieve his goals so long as he is willing to do whatever it takes.
Hard Working, Quick Learner – M'kal is no stranger to hard work, despite his disdain for the menial physical labor his previous life required he endure, and he acquired a certain work ethic that carries over now that he's a dragonrider. After all, any work a rider is required to do is ten times better than the wherryshit he had to do back at the Hold. He has always been quite adept at picking up new skills as well, learning quickly after observing only a handful of times.
Outgoing and Loyal – M'kal is a highly outgoing person and has no qualms about chatting with anyone. After all, if he's going to be a leader, he needs followers. He can actually be a decently friendly person, so long as he doesn't perceive any insult or disrespect, and when someone proves loyal to him he returns that loyalty intensely. He is willing to go to great lengths for those he counts as friends, and one can be sure if M'kal rises in rank, his friends will feel the benefit. But with his generally abrasive personality more suited to making him enemies than friends, there are few he deems worthy of his loyalty.
FAMILY:
H'kal – father (rider of Bronze Gabreth at Monaco Bay Weyr, deceased)
Mirese – mother (cook at Cove Hold)
Isali – half-sister (25 turns, rider of Green Zyrath)
Reselle – half-sister (18 turns)
Merilli – half-sister (16 turns)
Ristanon – half-brother (13 turns)
Sirasha – half-sister (8 turns)
HISTORY:
Mirekal was born in Cove Hold to Mirese, a cook for the Lord Holder's family. He was the result of a tryst between the woman and a visiting bronzerider from Monaco Bay Weyr. Mirese was a good cook, but a rather simple woman, wanting for little in life but the attentions of handsome men and having little interest in the children that resulted. None of Mirekal and his siblings share the same father, though when pressed Mirese would tell each child what little she knew of each of the men, if she knew at all. She certainly remembered Mirekal's. The man had often been at the Hold on behalf of his Weyr, though he only entertained her the once and apparently had no interest in meeting their supposed child, perhaps not believing he was the father.
Mirekal, however, was rather obsessed with his father. He took great pride in claiming to be the son of a bronzerider, though none of the other children ever believed his claims. It became quite the sore point, but he clung to it either way, and was determined to prove his worth as a bronzerider's son. None of his siblings were able to claim to have such an important sire, and they all acted like it too, in his opinion. Mirekal was sure he was different, destined for greater things. His siblings all seemed content enough to toil in the Hold forever, doing nothing more than drudge work, but Mirekal could only stomach it for so long, and that only to earn his daily meals, for though his mother was a cook, it didn't mean her children ever saw much more than scraps from her. He was about settled on moving to his father's Weyr, but Thread came, and the Southern Weyrs were suddenly thrown out of favor. Food became even more scarce after that, with the Weyrs unprepared for those first Falls. And his mother somehow found out that his father had perished in a Fall as well only a few short months after the Pass began.
Not wanting to leave for a Weyr that's Holds held it in contempt, Mirekal was at a bit of a loss. He could not afford passage North, to where he heard the Weyrs had done their duty properly and were still respected. So he waited, seething at having to spend anymore time wasting his life away doing menial labor when he was meant for so much more. At long last opportunity presented itself. A dragon came on Search, not from Monaco, but Mavros. He knew little of the Weyrhold but that they supposedly struggled, but the folk at Cove Hold seemed to hold them in higher esteem than the Southern Weyrs, and Mirekal decided to take a chance. After all, anything had to be better than remaining in the Hold at this point. He Impressed at his first Standing, to the only bronze in the clutch, who strutted toward him, flared his wings, and declared him his, promptly changing his name to M'kal. Draveth, the most perfect dragon on Pern.
