Note that this thread is subject to change as the site gains more characters and should be checked over before creating any new characters.
Tattoos and piercings (other than ears) will not be allowed. The risk of infection on Pern that comes with piercings or repeatedly sticking yourself with a needle is too great for anyone to even really think of doing it. Ear piercings are mainly for females and few males can get away with it without being ridiculed.
Unnatural hair colors (blue, green, purple, pink, etc.) will not be allowed. There is no way on Pern so far to successfully and safely dye ones hair. Neither will unnatural eye colors be allowed.
If your character has training in hand to hand combat or with a weapon mentioned in their history and they are not a dragonrider, part of a Lord Holder's family, or trained as a Guard for a Lord Holder's family you may be asked to remove it as being trained and proficient with disciplined fighting techniques is a rare event unless you are one of the aforementioned. If you can come up with a good, detailed history about why they were trained to fight without being one of those three options it may be considered, but it is unlikely.
Crafters, Holders, and Weyrfolk
There are a certain few positions open to anyone at the moment including:
Weyrhealer (a master healer assigned to the Weyrhold that oversees the infirmary and performs major medical procedures, generally also personally attends to the leadership of Mavros; must be at least 40 turns old)
Weyrharper (a journeyman or master harper assigned to the Weyrhold who oversees the teaching of the weyrbrats and holder children, performs at gathers and celebrations, etc.; must be at least 30 turns old if a Journeyman, 40 turns if a Master)
Headwoman (Headwoman must be at least 40 turns old, they oversee much of the domestic running of the Weyr and work closely with the Weyrwoman)
Assitant Headwoman (Assistant Headwoman must be at least 30 turns old, they oversee much of the domestic running of the Weyr and work closely with the Headwoman and Weyrwoman)
Holder Elect (Mavros’s version of a Lord Holder, elected at the beginning of every Turn by their fellow holders to represent them at Weyrhold Council Meetings).
Other than these, your character might be a weyrbrat, crèchewoman, drudge, holder, fisher (or pirate), trader, apprentice crafter, journeyman crafter, or if you have any other ideas just ask and it may be possible. At the moment, other than the Weyrharper and Weyrhealer, only master Beast, Farm, and Mine crafters are open for creation, but others may become open in the future. Master Crafters must be at least 40 turns old.
Candidates and Searchables
If you want your character to Stand for Impression, they cannot be deaf, blind, paralyzed, etc. Candidates must be whole and healthy in body and mind.
To be Searched, your character must be between 12 and 25 turns old. Candidates age out at 26 and are no longer allowed to Stand.
Candidates and Searchables (characters you wish to be Searched in-game and may wish to play as a crafter/holder/etc. before becoming a candidate) will always be needed and never banned.
Dragonriders
A number of younger dragons that hatched at Mavros (and Mirran and then traveled to Mavros) are available for adoption. Besides these, you can of course make your own, original dragons and riders, but there are limits in the number of colors that can be made. Currently, these are the colors available for creation as adult riders:
Golds – NONE
Bronzes – NONE
Browns – Unlimited (for now)
Blues – Unlimited
Greens – Unlimited
There are also a number of positions open that a dragonrider needs to fill including:
Weyrlingmaster – only 1, takes charge over newly Impressed riders and their dragons (preferably a Brown or Blue rider, can be a Bronzerider if he is not also a Wingleader or Wingsecond, must be at least 35 turns old)
Assistant Weyrlingmaster – 2, help out the Weyrlingmaster, especially when there is more than one class of weyrlings (preferably Blue or Green riders, can be a Brownrider, must be at least 25 turns old)
Candidate Master – only 1 (preferably a Blue or Green rider, must be at least 25 turns old with a dragon at least 5 turns old)
Searchrider – 5 (only Blue and Green riders, go out on Search for potential candidates)
Female Blueriders - 2, female Blueriders are rather uncommon and I do not want the site to be overrun with them. There will be 5 allowed for free, first come first served, at the start, but after these 5 are taken they will need to be purchased in the Site Store or Impressed during onsite hatchings.
3/5 TAKEN
Please note that transfer riders from other Weyrs are rare and if you are planning a transfer rider please see Zen to work out the details behind it so it makes sense.
Wherhandlers
There are a small number of Wherhandlers open to creation from the start. After these are taken you will need to wait for a Wher clutch to Bond one to your character. All starting Whers should be adults and their Handlers should have been bonded to them for at least 2 turns.
Golds – NONE
Bronzes – NONE
Browns – 2
Blues – 3
Greens - 3
Firelizards & Bondable Pets
Every member is allowed to have ONE character start with ONE free firelizard, which can be brown, blue, or green. All other firelizards must be purchased in the site shop or bonded in game. No other bondable pet will ever be allowed at character creation, they must be bonded in game.
Other Pets
Your characters may start with other pets, including:
Tunnelcats - quite common as they kill tunnelsnakes (similar to ferrets)
Felines - rather rare and considered a 'luxury' item, usually only owned by Holders to both show off wealth and to keep pest populations down (I won't be allowing many of these without a good reason behind it; please also note I'm talking about domestic felines not the monster felines that run wild on Pern)
Canines - also quite common for guarding, herding, and other jobs. Pernese canines are almost always of the larger variety, the smaller ones just do not have as much use and therefore aren't kept and bred
Runnerbeasts - although common enough on Pern (certainly more common than Felines) they are quite expensive and are rarely owned by common Pernese folk (I will also not be allowing many of these without good reason behind it)
Tattoos and piercings (other than ears) will not be allowed. The risk of infection on Pern that comes with piercings or repeatedly sticking yourself with a needle is too great for anyone to even really think of doing it.
