NAME: Riana (Rye-ah-nah)
RANK: Candidate
AGE: 17
GENDER: Female
ORIENTATION: Hetero
DRAGON: n/a
WHER: n/a
PETS: n/a
APPEARANCE:
Riana is a small woman, standing only 5'6. She is slender but well-muscled in both her arms and legs. She had to maintain more muscle than some women, as she had two older brothers and a hold full of animals to deal with. Her skin is pale and smooth, but she will tan up if she spends enough time outside, though she tends to burn easily on her face and shoulders if she is outside too long, like most people. Hazel eyes watch the world around her, not too large but expressive. Where she can hide a lot of how she feels, her eyes often betray her.
She has no freckles or blemishes, but she does have a birthmark on her right thigh that is dark brown against her skin and is almost shaped like the paw pad of a dog or cat. That's the best way she can describe it anyway. She also has a scar running down her right arm from a fall she took when she was 13. She and her brothers had been chasing down a herdbeast that wandered off, a rock came loose under her foot and she landed on a jagged rock which sliced her arm open.
She has very long, light brown hair that she either leaves to hang loose or braided. Never one for fancy hair styles she prefers to keep her hair simple and to keep it out of the way. Her hair is straight but does have a small natural wave to it, the ends tend to curl where they fall against the small of her back. She has hazel green eyes that tend to be more green than anything, but can also appear brown on occasion. Her eyes are not completely almond-shaped but they sit well on her face. With her rounded face, small lips and nose, she is often told she looks years younger than she is. She is not a fan of this because often people do not take her seriously, as she feels she looks like she is 12 Turns old, no matter what she does. She has slender hips and a small chest, not that either of those matter to her at the current point and time.
PERSONALITY FAULTS:
Growing up with two older brothers was hard on Riana, mainly because she dressed like and acted like she was one of the boys, so they treated her like one. She was just as rough and tumble as they were and from it, she came out with a few less than desirable traits. She tends to be highly independent and stubborn, refusing to ask people for help even when she really should. She will occasionally concede that she needs help, but she doesn't like to.
She won't back down from a fight unless it is proven that she is wrong and then she is still unhappy about it. She can also be fairly impatient, but she doesn't blame this one on her brothers, as her father likes to blame that on her mother. She hates to wait for anything that does not NEED to be waited on.
She is a little awkward and shy when it comes to guys and has no idea how or when to flirt. She tends to just treat guys at friends or brothers, which is not how you win someone over if you are interested in them....Who knew?
PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:
Riana keeps her circle fairly small, but to those few that she does include, she gives all the love and loyalty. She is the type of person that will go as far out of her way as she can to help someone she cares for. There is no task too big or small if a friend or family member asks for help, she is going to help and you can huff wher dung if you think you can stop her. She will, of course, help those she doesn't know as well, though generally only if asked to do so. The irony here is of course that she never asks for help for herself.
Even though it was always her brothers that protected her, or perhaps because of, she has a strong protective streak in her. She is most protective of her family and friends but this also extends to anyone she sees that needs help. She will come to another's aid without any hesitation or concern for consequences.
Riana is often very friendly, finding it easier to go through life than being unkind or rude. Not that she has never been rude, but rarely on purpose as she tries very hard not to be rude. She has a very strong moral compass and will always do the right thing, even if it is going to get her in trouble. She doesn't lie, she has never had a reason to, even when caught sneaking bubbly pies as a child, she would always admit that she had done it. Perhaps it was because her brothers were always blaming things on her anyway... She walks the line between being a girl and not being worried about getting mud and dung on her clothes or in her hair. She can own either side of that line and it doesn't bother her at all.
FAMILY:
HISTORY:
Mother - Deceased
Father - Beastcrafter - 45 Turns
Brother - Older - Beastcrafter - 21 Turns
Brother - Older - Dragonrider - 19 Turns
Riana is the last born of loving parents, her younger two siblings sadly had not survived being born, and her mother had not survived the last birthing. Her father had been devastated, as had she and her older brothers, at the loss but was thankful that he still had three healthy children. Riana was doted on often by her father and brothers, but her brothers often gave her all manner of trouble as well, which she learned early to give right back.
Growing up surrounded by men, Riana had little to nothing to worry about, even though she was one of few girls. None of the boys ever messed with her, because they knew her brothers and know their tempers. Her father had been told repeatedly to send her off to another hold or at least a family in the hold that wasn't around the herdbeasts all day and night. Her father had refused, however, even though he knew it would be best for her. He simply couldn't bear being apart from her, as she looked so much like her mother. The thought of her not being with him and the boys broke his heart, like losing his wife all over again. When she was old enough to help with chores, that was exactly what she did, she wasn't just there to be there. She did plenty of general chores, but often she was helping her father and brother with the herdbeasts they raised and tended.
When she was 12 there was an incident with some holder boys that changed how she interacted with people. She had always been fairly pretty, even as a child, not that she cared much about that mind you. Her father and brothers tended to make her look at boyish as possible when they left the cothold, which had never bothered her. Dresses and frilly things hadn't been her things when she was younger anyway. However, while at a gather she managed to get separated from her brothers while running around. Her idiot older brother had knicked a couple of bubbly pies and they were all in trouble for it so they had split up to avoid getting caught.
After splitting up and running, Ri ended up hiding in the wrong place at the wrong time. She had run into a group of boys that were a little older than her that saw she had a bubbly pie in her hand. It started with them taking her pie, then they had started shoving her around and trying to take any marks she had. When they realized that one, she didn't have any marks and two that she was a girl the verbal and physical abuse she took was unlike anything her brothers had ever done, they had never been actively TRYING to hurt her. By the time her brothers found her, she was laying on the ground, covered in mud, her clothes were torn, she had one blackening eye, and a bloody lip from a particularly nasty backhand the oldest boy had given her for daring to dress like a boy. And she was of course crying. Her brothers had made sure all three boys looked twice as bad as she did before their father and several other adults showed up, as the commotion had drawn quite a lot of attention from passersby.
After that, it was decided that it would likely be safer for her to dress appropriately when going out and that one or both of her brothers were never to leave her side. Had she been interested in dating, she wouldn't have been able to. Her father had been mortified at the fighting and ashamed that his daughter had ended up in such a state, even though he had thought he was protecting her. He had also started to reconsider sending her to be fostered. He was overruled by all three of his children.
She was 14 when her brother Impressed his dragon. A very handsome and very large brown. He had not been searched, they had been invited to watch the hatching and, as luck would have it, the brown had chosen not one of the many candidates in white, but her bulky brother instead, right out of the stands. Her brother hadn't even realized what was going on until he felt the hunger pains and fear of his new bonded going between without him. Their father had been so proud that one of his sons had Impressed a dragon, even if that did leave him a pair of hands short. Riana was jealous as only a little sister could be, but she was just as proud to say that HER brother had Impressed a brown dragon!
Her family had hated having to leave her brother behind at the weyr but were also happy he was in good hands. It was when they were preparing to leave that they were stopped by two riders. Both riders had been leading passengers onto their dragons, one a beautiful blue, the other a tiny by comparison green. They wanted to talk to her father.. about her. Her father was reluctant to let her go, far too used to having her presence around the cothold, helping and giving her brothers grief. However, it was an opportunity that they could not pass up, for having seen the hatching as well as her brother Impress, she truly did want the chance, since it was being offered. And if she never bonded with a dragon of her own? Well, she was tough enough to go right back to the cothold and be useful there. Her father just wanted her to be safe and protected, what better place than the Weyr where her bother was...right?
She took to her new candidacy well enough. The lessons weren't always easy, not that she had expected them to be, but she enjoyed the challenges the lessons gave her. She got along with the other candidates well enough, though there were a few here and there she just couldn't fully get along with. She had a lot to get used to with rules and restrictions, punishments and authorities and hierarchy she just wasn't accustomed to and it took a bit for her to get herself sorted. She also had to learn that not everyone was like her brothers and it took a few altercations for her to understand that not everyone was as rough and tumble as she was, verbally or physically.
