Tak’ril ~ Bronze Agureyth
It wasn’t his best fishing rod, a little too firm, and a little too short for his large size, but it would work well enough for today. Agureyth was lying down, watching closely as he prepared the rod.
But I can swim when we are done with the fish catching, right?
He chuckled and looked over at the large dragonet, hope filled eyes zeroed in on him.
“Yes, I promise. Just a few fish, and then it’s your turn.”
Good, because I want to swim.
“I know, and I want to fish.” He threw the line into the water and leaned back against a rock that he had artfully positioned himself behind for just the purpose. It wasn’t as comfortable as Agureyth, but he wanted the bronze to learn, and being positioned away for a back support would not be the best learning position. He fiddled with the reel, which wasn’t the best makeshift reel, testing it’s feel and unhappy with the choppy pull it gave. He really had done a sloppy job on this rod, and vowed to make a better one later. One worthy of fishing with.
Now what? ‘Now we wait quietly, so we don’t scare the fish away.’ Oh. How long does it normally take? ‘It can take a long time.’ But how long? ‘It changes every time, so I don’t know.’
This does not seem like a beneficial way to spend time. If you really want a fish, I can get you one.
‘But that’s not the point. There is something satisfying about waiting and catching your own fish on your own terms that really just hits the spot.’
Okay, we will do it your way this time. But maybe we can try it my way later.
‘Sure, I don’t see why not.’
He closed his eyes, enjoying the lulling feel of the rod in his hands, and the rock at his back, the warmish breeze blowing over him. He had picked a perfect day for fishing.
