Haella and Green Tsulocanth
(Shortly after the Rising Like The Sun Lesson)
(Shortly after the Rising Like The Sun Lesson)
It was a nice afternoon. Chilly, but clear, and not as bone-chilling as Haella had expected, and gave her the chance to get a bit of fresh air while she was working. The sky was soft blue, and the bowl of their rugged out Weyr was full of enough life that even if you weren’t talking with anyone, you still didn’t feel alone. The Weyrlings were free of their class for the day; which meant Haella and D’rew had time to themselves for a bit of the daylight.
Haella was fascinated at the differences between D’rew’s way of teaching and what she had gone through in K’ton’s courses. Where the disgruntled old Bronzerider seemed to take some sort of twisted joy in watching them trip up and make fools of themselves, D’rew seemed to take more of a fatherly, almost guiding hand rather than the twisted, creepy uncle aura of K’ton’s method.
Pushing the needle through the thick leather, Haella decided she liked D’rew’s way better. MUCH better, honestly. She came on this adventure to see what it would be like to be a Weyrlingmaster, and a Candidatemaster; both had fascinated her since before she came to Mavros. Her father said it was about teaching the next ones, but she always wondered if there was more to it. Either way, she enjoyed it enough that maybe, just maybe, she’d ask to try out being an assistant to one of the masters when they got back to their proper time. Probably Candidatemaster… so she wouldn’t have to deal with K’ton’s sour mood.
But then we couldn’t play with the babies! Haella paused in her repair work of her Green’s straps to glance in the Dragon’s direction. ‘Well, you aren’t supposed to play with them Tully.’ Aw, but learning is boring. Haella laughed, shaking her head. ‘It is not.’ The Green paused in her play, her body bowed almost in a play pose of a canine, her nose against the ground as she huffed quick breaths at a dried leave she had found, making it waft up over her nostrils, then drift back to the ground.
Are they fixeded? ‘What? The Straps?’ Yes yes. I want to go hunting today since we don’t get to play with the babies today. ‘Not yet. I still have some stitching to replace. And I don’t think you can call them babies anymore.’ Tully huffed the leaf again, talons digging into the ground as the Green pulled herself forward quickly to stay under it, puffing to try to keep it in the air. Then we can hunt, yes? ‘Yes.’ Good, good, I’m hungry.
Haella smiled, watching the Green chase her leaf for a few minutes more before returning to her repair work.
