Weyrling Maz’ru :: Blue Quilath

That fish smells good. “No, it doesn’t.” Maz’ru scrunched his face in disagreement. He had been carrying a pouch of dried fish for his firelizard egg. It wasn’t a terrible smell, but also was not the most pleasant smell to carry around. Luckily he had gotten use to it and it was worth the chance to have a firelizard.

What is the point of having a firelizard when you have me? Maz glanced at his sky blue dragon that was trotting through the beach sands, watching him as Maz’ru replaced the sands for his firelizard egg. ‘It’s just one of those things I’ve always dreamed of.’ Did you dream of riding a dragon? ‘Sometimes…but it seemed more out of reach. It seemed more probable of coming across a firelizard egg than being searched.’ And now you’re here and you have me.

Maz’ru looked over at his hatchling as he packed in the last of the warm sands around his firelizard egg. “Are you jealous?” He asked with a grin, considering his dragon in a different light. I just don’t see the point. Maz’ru chuckled, standing up and wandering to a place where he and his hatchling could hang out in the sun.

He needed to thank Sio again for letting him know about the clutch that had been laid and given out. He had scoured the beaches and found a larger shell and piled warm sand in the bottom and then around the shell. He had done as instructed and he was noticing how hard the egg was becoming. He placed the oblong shell next to him and leaned back in the sand, enjoying the cool breeze and warm sun that counterbalanced the breeze.

When do I get to eat again? ‘Is… that all you think about?’ No. I also think about how useless a firelizard would be compared to me. Maz’ru just grinned, sighing shaking his head that he rested on his hands that were behind him.

OoC// kevna – thinking we could role play out their firelizard egg hatching at the same time, yeh? And Amagetith could get Quilath to try to play with her. ^^

Siorreya - Green Amagetith

Noooooot again. We come to the beach, but we do not play on the beach. So whyyy do we come to the beach?

The little green glared balefully at the basket as they made their hike down to the beach. And Sio hid a smile as she looked down at the basket. She was pretty sure she had seen Maz heading this way, and was a little excited to share the looks of their eggs. It was getting harder, and the time was coming near, she was sure of it. She just was glad that this firelizard wouldn't eat near so much as Amagetith. 

Amagetith, following her line of thought, turned the baleful gaze towards the weyrling, and then pranced ahead, giving her the silence treatment. Sio hiked the basket up, but felt the fatigue bearing it down low again. Still she trudged on towards the beach. Sio was exhausted. Taking care of a dragonet was exhausting. Ama still refused bedtime repeatedly, and her fighting the sleep she needed meant she slept at the most inopportune times, when Sio couldn't catch up on her sleep. Plus, the blonde was still struggling not waking up when the sun rose, even with how exhausted she was. 

Quilath! Maz'ru! Oh good! We can play, let's play. I know, we must go swimming, yes it will feel so good, and we can chase eachother in the water and, forget about baskets and eggs, they just make everyone so boring. But you aren't boring, right Maz'ru, right Quilath? Let's have some fun. 

Siorreya turned the corner to see Amagetith's body facing the ocean, and her long sinewy neck twisted around as she spoke to the two standing in the sun. 

"Hey Maz! Quil! How's the sand, nice and warm?"

She trudged down a sandy slope and walked to join Maz and his blue dragonet in the sun. She watched the way his reddish hair, curly and wispy glinted in the sun, and she felt a moment's unease as she took in the weyrling standing next to the blue dragonet. She brushed the unease back and stood beside Maz. Then plopped down, a sigh of relief at getting a chance to sit and be still. 

"Finally. I'm exhausted. I could use a rest in the sun."

She pushed the bucket a little to the side, procrastinating the change out of warm sand, and then brushed her hair back. Slowly, the blonde leaned back on both her hands, lifting her face up to the sun. 

I am not tired, and the water looks good. Siomine, you should join us!

Weyrling Maz’ru :: Blue Quilath

Quilath perked up, sitting up as the sound of Amagetith broadcasting to them. He watched his dragon curiously and then looked back at the sight of the bounding green toward them. His blue looked more interested than usual at the entry of the playful green dragon. Maz smiled at the sign of Sio coming down the sandy slopes, noticing the fatigue on her expression as she approached. It was definitely interesting to see the tides turn the way they had, Sio’s energy dropping as her dragon's energy matched or even surpassed her own.

When are you going to tell her my full and correct name? His dragon huffed mentally, eying Sio as she flopped gracefully next to him. 'Why don't you tell her?' It would be more proper for you to tell her. Quilath turned and started to trot after Amagetith. ‘Where are you going? To play?’ Don’t sound so surprised. ‘Well… it’s good to know you aren’t a complete stick in the mud.’ Stick in the mud, or sand? The light blue dragon glanced at the sand then back at his rider. Well, I’m neither. There are times to play and times not to play. He continued to trot off. Besides, that egg is yours, not mine to look over. ‘So, you’re not jealous?’ The blue made no sign of hearing his rider and quickened his trot toward the ocean.

Teach me a game Amagetith! Maz’ru chuckled and turned his head so he could see Sio reclining and enjoying the sun. He shifted and reached out and touched her shoulder lightly. “Yes, it’s so warm. Thanks again for letting me know about the firelizard eggs.” He paused, examining his tired friend. “You alright?” He withdrew his hand, suddenly wondering and doubting how much she cared to be touched by him ever since… ever since that time on the beach before impression…

“Listen uh… did you… maybe we should talk about the one time on the beach? Before we impressed?” Perhaps it was a bad time, her being tired… but he wanted to make sure everything was okay between them.

She hadn’t been able to pass up the temptation- an egg of her own! With less to worry about in the course of the firelizard’s growing, Ishal had decided she might as well. She had no reason not to, and that was good enough. Sleeduth was thrilled too; she enjoyed the smaller versions of dragons- they were similar in so many ways, though their usefulness was vastly different- they could not fight Thread like the dragons, but they were entertaining as pets and handy as messengers.

She’d been keeping the egg in a basket close to the fire in her room, but the hardness of the shell and Sleeduth’s own recent increased interest had convinced her to keep it with her- she wouldn’t risk it hatching alone and going wild.

A free afternoon stretched ahead, and Ishal took full advantage by wandering down to the beach with Sleeduth padding along, protection against any wild predators and company all in one. There were two others: new weyrlings, the greenrider noticed as she got closer. The boy's words reached her just as she came within earshot, but where she might have just casually walked back out of hearing distance to give the two what privacy they might want, Sleeduth trotted right up to the four with a rumbled greeting.

Hello, Quilath and His, Amagetith and Hers. Isn’t it a lovely day? Mine and I thought it would be nice to lie on the sand. It’s wonderful that others had the same idea!

Siorreya - Green Amagetith

Sio was a little surprised to watch Maz's blue scamper off to join Ama in play. 

No thanks love, have fun though.

Amagetith sent a wave of disapproval through her, and then turned to Quilath.

Such silly humans and their eggs. Oh a game, yes! Let us play a game against the waves, yes? We stand in one spot in the waves, and sink our claws into the sand, and whoever stands the longest without the waves wins! 

The green dragon pranced into the waves, and hunkered down as a particularly large wave crashed down on her. Joy thrilled through the little green, and the wave swept her up and back onto the beach. 

Err, that was just practice. Starting now! And the green dragonet scampered back into place.  

Sio chuckled at the little one's silliness. Siorreya refused her little one's invitation to play in the ocean because she was so bugger tired, and needed the rest. She just gave a nod to Maz'ru's gratitude but mainly did not move from her position of palms in the sand and face lifted to the sun, eyes closed. She took a deep breath to bask in the sun. "I'm fine, just tired. Ama fights sleep late into the night, and my body still rises with the sun, and I am just exhausted. Shells take it, I miss sleep." She took another deep breath, digging her fingers into the warm sand. That's when Maz spoke that which she really didn't want to hear or speak about.  

“Listen uh… did you… maybe we should talk about the one time on the beach? Before we impressed?”

The small weyrling tried not to stiffen, tried not to react at all, but doubted she hid much from the younger man. She peered at him from her still position under squinted almost closed eyes, so as not to seem like she had opened her eyes. She tried to discern the reasoning behind why he was bringing it up, uncomfortable to have to discuss it again. It happened, and it was over. They were friends. Right? Or did he want more from her? She was sure she cared for him, just not in that way... 

That's when she noticed a green dragon, full grown she supposed, walk up to them, a woman following not too far behind. She was relieved, but it only postponed the conversation she supposed. Still, she was too tired for it now. She opened her blue eyes all the way, and looked to Maz with a small sideways smile and mouthed, 'Later.'

"Why hello, please join us!" She motioned her head in invitation for the rider to sit next her. "You have a firelizard egg as well?"

Her green dragon trilled in excitement to the older green. Come and play with us Sleeduth! We see who will win stand against the waves the longest! 

Siorreya tried not to roll her eyes at the little one's excitement. Obviously it didn't occur to her that the much larger dragon would have little trouble with the waves as Amagetith and Quil did. She turned and jerked her chin to point at the bundle the woman held. "I think they should hatch soon right?" Then realizing she hadn't introduced herself, "Oh, I am Siorreya, and that is my green-"I am Amagetith!

Her little one interrupted her, and braced herself for another wave.

Weyrling Maz’ru :: Blue Quilath

Quilath watched Amagetith, skeptical of the game and how it would work. The waves seemed so large… And his thoughts were confirmed at Amagetith came rolling back toward him in the wave. She bounced up, hardly put off that the wave had rolled right over her.

What if we did not go so far – then the waves we would last longer in this game of yours. Quilath offered his logical point of view, picking his way through the surf and not venturing quite as far as Amagetith had gone the first time.

Maz’ru wasn’t paying attention to the dragons at the moment, but watching and paying attention to Sio. She was tired and it sounded like Amagetith was giving Sio a taste of her own medicine, but perhaps a bit more than she could handle. Maz’ru liked and thrived on Siorreya’s energy, it made him sad that his friend should be so tired; it got him thinking of what he could do to help.

If he had not been watching Sio with concern, he probably would have missed the way she stiffened just enough. Perhaps it wasn’t the best time… Her head tilted toward something behind them behind them, but he watched her for any other cues he could gather. All he got was a ‘later’ she mouthed and then greeted newcomers on the beach. With an inaudible sigh he twisted to his side and propped himself up on one arm. He smiled, motioning for the girl to join them with his other hand.

“I’m Maz’ru, that’s my blue – Quil, uh Quilath.” He smiled a little, glancing and motioning toward the blue near the water. The blue had glanced back at Maz at the sound of his voice, then turned a little toward the other green. Hello Sleeduth. Yes, Amagetith is teaching me a game. He paused glancing toward Amagetith’s energetic form then back to Sleeduth. He was too polite to point out the issue with the game, especially since he wasn’t sure if games had a ‘right’ way to be.

The greeting eased Ishal's hesitation, and her smile was bright as she crossed the short distance left and settled into the sand. "I do," she replied, and held it up. Then a nod of greeting to both as they introduced themselves, her own following. "Ishal and Sleeduth." Her gaze drifted to her green, who was peering at the younger dragons with cheery blue eyes, which whirled faster at the mention of a game. I would love to play! she exclaimed, and splashed in without a second more of hesitation, the water churning as she plunged in.

She gazed down at the water, settling just over her wrists, and then at the youngsters. Amagetith was rocked by each swell, and Quilath wasn't doing much better, but Sleeduth was by far the steadiest- being far taller and heavier. Wait, she requested, and turned to head farther out.

"Don't go too far!" Ishal called, shifting a bit nervously. Sleeduth rumbled acknowledgement, coming to a halt once more with the water washing over her elbows, her talons curling into the shifting sand underfoot, wings outspread for balance. Okay, this is good, I think. Don't worry, Mine, I will be fine. The water is not very strong here and I can get out whenever I wish. Are you okay, Amagetith? Quilath?

Siorreya - Green Amagetith

She wasn’t sure if it was meeting a new person, or that another firelizard egg had joined the group, but she felt a small surge of energy that renewed her.

“Maz and I were hoping that the sun might lure our firelizards into hatching.” She sighed dramatically and moved as if to bump Maz companionably, stealing a quick peak into Ishal’s basket. “What color do you think you have? I was thinking I have a brown, or maybe a blue, although a green would match well with Ama and I don’t you think? Oh, but a brown would be nice, give us some contrast. Plus, they do get a bit bigger. Although a small green would be easier to carry around on my shoulder.”

Like a rodent she became distracted from her word vomit as she noticed Amagetith moving out as if to get closer to Sleeduth. “Be careful Ama, you aren’t nearly the size of Sleeduth!” Then without checking to see if Amagetith would heed her she turned back to the group. “I just want them to hatch already!” She said with another sigh, although this one was more heartfelt. Maybe if they hatched, then Ama would learn to sleep with her firelizard curled on her neck. Then as if realizing she knew nothing of the new stranger, "So what's your story Ishal?"

Amagetith trilled in excitement as she watched Sleeduth go deeper in. She waited as patiently as she could but itched to go deeper as well. Just a little deeper. She politely ignored her Sio’s warning, sometimes she just didn’t understand fun, and the risks you had to go through for them.

But it’s more fun out there, deeper in the water Quilath! Ama started to go a little deeper but didn’t dare go out as far as her larger sister. A wave caught her, and she gladly allowed it to pull her into the water and back towards the sand. She enjoyed the tumble, and once she rolled onto the sand, she shook it off and jumped back into the water.

I am wonderful Sleeduth! Oh, I love the waves! I can't wait till I am as big as you, and can go out even farther. What game should we play next? 

Ama was ready for a new game, maybe more daring. She came back alongside Quilath, and whipped her tail out, pushing her brother teasingly.

Weyrling Maz’ru :: Blue Quilath

Maz looked over where the dragons were, still a little surprised that Quilath had agreed to games. Was the firelizard a bad idea with such a young dragon? It surprised him that it miffed his dragon so. He knew he wouldn’t have to warn Quilath about the ocean, who of course was being overly careful, with no real desire to ‘win’ whatever game they were playing. Maz'ru's pale green eyes moved back to his company and raised an eyebrow at Sio’s longing for the eggs to hatch.

“As Quilath would say, patience is unbecoming of a dragon rider.” He teased Sio. He grinned and winked at Ishal to convey his teasing manner and looked at Sio expectedly. His left hand had unconsciously gone to touch the warm smooth surface of the egg when he felt it move within the nest of warm sand. His first instinct was to gasp – but he didn’t, perhaps because he was in shock? “Uhmm. I think my egg moved.” His heart was speeding up and his eyes were big and fixated on the smooth part of the egg that poked out of the warm sands.

Meanwhile Quilath glanced back at the humans, then back to the greens. He was well aware Sleeduth’s size did not make the game ‘fair,’ but he knew him saying anything wouldn’t change anything and it was Amagetith’s game, not his… So he inched forward in the waves, watching Sleeduth easily pass where they were into the taller waves. One day he’d be bigger, even bigger than Sleeduth – at least, blues usually were. I am well, thank you. Then suddenly his green sibling wanted to change games. Have we finished the last game? He asked, slightly confused as Ama bumped into him.
